* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: In this comic exploring how the events of the 1986 ''Transformers'' movie would play differently if Optimus Prime never died, the story generally goes through the same beats right down to Unicron being destroyed by the Matrix after a fight with his minion, but with swapped character roles. The only real difference by the end is the (rather dismissive towards the season 3 and to an extent, the season 2 cast) body count.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** It's generally agreed that Starscream's upgraded form Megascream looks awesome, or at least based on the few looks we do get of him since he barely appears compared to Galvatron's presence in the original film. He's also given the ability to combine, where in said combined form's screentime of about two pages, we never got a full-body shot or even learn his ''name''.
** Kranix lives in this version, but pretty much disappears after he is rescued. It wouldn't have been much different had he still been eaten by the Sharkticons.

RTDE is purely fanon and a fandom trend. Specific examples are mere Adaptational Tropes.

* RonTheDeathEater: Ultra Magnus spends the comic mostly just threatening and hitting Hot Rod over any perceived slight. A far cry from the reliable teacher and second-in-command he was in the cartoon.

* DesignatedMonkey: The Autobots all give Hot Rod a hard time, presumably as the author's stance on the part he played in Prime's death. ...Except Hot Rod is stopped from interfering in this version of the story, and seeing how everyone just went on with business as usual in the original movie, their attitude towards him here makes even less sense. Even then, many fans have reevaluated the original scene and decided that Optimus probably would have died anyway because his mercy gave Megatron the chance to reach for a weapon (though the comic does address this by having Megatron miss and Prime finally taking the shot in response), meaning Hot Rod wasn't fully responsible for his death anyway.
