There needs to be objective proof for an Audience Alienating Premise, like low ratings or sales. Even if it has a contentious main character, the manga has still been running since 2019.

This behavior is indeed lampshaded in the manga, where his criminal acts are (perhaps only mildly) evened-out by his genuinely heroic actions, but some readers may find such a protagonist distasteful regardless.
