Trope was redefined for In Universe use only.

* AdaptationDecay: Arguably Shane. He lied to Lori about Rick being dead, presumably to be able to have a relationship with her. Beating a man senseless in order to vent his frustration that Lori wants him to stay away from her and her son, and not wanting to continue the affair now Rick's back and is usurping his role as the camp leader. Considering to shoot Rick with a shotgun to get rid of him. Dale's face said it all, "dude... what the hell?"
** Shane didn't lie according to the flashback at the beginning of episode 6.

* AdaptationDisplacement: As usually happens when a non-superhero comic is adapted.

* DesignatedHero: Literally. The moment Rick meets up with the group, he for no apparent reason is proclaimed their leader.

to:

* DesignatedHero: ComfortingTheWidow[=/=]RomancingTheWidow: In the time Rick was in the hospital, Shane and Lori were beginning to form this kind of relationship (which one is up for debate).\\
\\
It may lean closer to the former now that she's made it clear that Rick being back means the relationship between them is done. Shane doesn't take this very well.\\
\\
Seems to be hurtling toward the former now that after Rick's ThatCameOutWrong comment about Shane and his family, Shane aimed a shotgun at Rick and seemed to seriously consider killing him.
* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome:
Literally. The moment Rick meets up with the group, he for no apparent reason is proclaimed their leader.

* {{In Name Only}}: The TV show has taken some considerable breaks from the comic. Sure, they say it's to avoid {{Foregone Conclusion}}, and that is reasonable. Still, it's distancing itself from the comic enough that I think it qualifies.
* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: You didn't really think that they were going to kill off [[spoiler:Dale and Andrea]] so early, did you?

* UnfortunateImplications: It takes the only other white man around to take down the racist while he's beating on a black guy and the other minority characters all cower or go down with one punch. On the other hand, Rick ''is'' an experienced policeman, who has probably subdued people before, and Merle's delirious comments in the next episode imply that he was once in the military, meaning that the other guys had good reason to be afraid of him. And initially, Rick gets his ass kicked too; it's only when Merle's back is turned that he is able to hit him with the rifle.

Shane was already jealous of Rick, so those actions wouldn\'t have been out of character for him. Also replacing one IdiotBall entry, as while the wallet incident was not strong enough, there was a good point of not humanizing the zombies.

Even without context it doesn\'t make sense, at any length. If you only see the others not interveneing and then Rick hits him, the others are all still in front and Rick still comes from behind, an undeniable non race based advantage. Expanding the perspective only makes it even more so, as you see that even Rick gets taken down at first

Are the justifications necessary? To quote the Unfortunate Implications page: \" Just because a work has Unfortunate Implications does not mean the author was thinking of it that way. In fact, that\'s the point of it being unfortunate. So, please, no Justifying Edits about \"what the authors really meant.\"\" This trope isn\'t about accusing the show, it\'s about pointing out that sometimes things can look bad, especially out of context.

** The fact that Rick ''is'' white is presumably why Merle chose to keep pounding on the black guy, rather than stop to make sure Rick was down for the count. In which case, it's Merle's own bigotry that's directly to blame for what happens next, making this [[spoiler:DeathByRacism]] rather than UnfortunateImplications.
