* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: While this movie is rated G or PG in western countries, people are surprised by how much the movie displays a lot of very adult content and themes, some of which children may not even grasp. Mild nudity, strict gender roles, Kaguya being pushed into an arranged marriage at a very young age, suitors who are pursuing her who are old men, sexual assault, and a [[spoiler:depressing ending where the main character loses everything dear and precious to her]].

All this because Kaguya's father wanted a better life and future for his daughter, but didn't understand that she was happy with a simple life in the country.]]

* RonTheDeathEater: Kaguya herself has earned many detractors since the movie came out, with said detractors viewing her and her actions as selfish and even [[{{Wangst}} wangsty]] at times; some even going as far as to call her straight up evil. This is of course ignoring the fact that, among other things, was forcefully taken away from her home and repeatedly forced to marry people she doesn't know and has no interest in marrying.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Kaguya has earned many detractors since the movie came out, with said detractors viewing her and her actions as selfish and even [[{{Wangst}} wangsty]] at times; some even going as far as to call her [[RonTheDeathEater evil]]. With that being said though, she still has plenty of fans, many who are more than willing to defend her.

* OneSceneWonder: The wife of the fourth suitor, who reprimands him with a severe TheReasonYouSuckSpeech and effectively protects Kaguya from falling into his emotional manipulation.

** Sutemaru being a CoolBigBro to Kaguya, or "Little Bamboo" as the other kids call her. He saves her from wild boars, shares a melon with her, and carries her home safely.
** Kaguya's young handmaiden leading a small parade of children, singing Kaguya's favorite song as a farewell to her. The music is what draws her into a final embrace with her parents. Also classifies as a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome - they actually succeeded in snapping Kaguya out of her trance and stalling a celestial procession led by a Buddha-like deity when all the hardened soldiers surrounding the palace were harmlessly put to sleep.

* FridgeBrilliance: Kaguya's father interprets the fine robes and gold that come from the bamboo as a command from the Heavens to turn her into a "princess", believing it will make her happy. [[spoiler:Well, she is from the moon, and the minute she's ''unhappy'' enough, the Heavens would whisk her back to her place of origin]].

* FridgeHorror: [[spoiler:"Would she have been just ''like the others?'' Would she have been plucked from the fields like a flower and thrown away? ''How many more princesses would have to go to a nunnery?''"]]
