* TheWoobie: Poor Jack Marley. ReluctantRetiree doesn't do him justice. He's forced to retire against his will, despite having nothing to live for except his job (which is about to be taken away from him), and his dog has recently died. The last we see of him is in the scene where he tries to re-apply for the same position, only to lose out to Marge.

** Bart, a male character, exclaims "Ow, my [[ArtisticLicenceBiology ovaries]]!" to get out of a test at school. Then came [[WebAnimation/Supermarioglitchy4sSuperMario64Bloopers Bob Bobowski]], another male character who would have a RunningGag of saying the same thing whenever he got injured.

* HarsherInHindsight:
** At one point in the episode, Homer tries to scare off Surly Joe by asking Marge to "go get the gun". [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS9E5TheCartridgeFamily A later episode]] focused on Homer actually buying a gun, as well as the marital problems it causes him and Marge when she begs him to get rid of it for everyone's safety and he refuses to listen.
** One crazy employee polishes his shotgun while calling himself "The Angel Of Death". [[WesternAnimation/ThePrinceOfEgypt Roughly 6 years later,]] the same concept was used in animation, and in a decidedly '''not''' comical way.
