* HarsherInHindsight: At the end, Homer leaves Moe's Tavern in order to spend time with Marge, and Moe angrily responds by saying that he'll be back, along with the other patrons, including Barney in a FourthWallPsych. Later episodes show Moe making good on this threat by [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS14E17ThreeGaysOfTheCondo forcibly pouring alcohol down Homer's throat to make him forget that he has a drinking problem]] and [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS15E17MyBigFatGeekWedding getting Barney (who had sobered up a few seasons prior) off the wagon]] just so he could make more money from him.

* AlternativeJokeInterpretation: When Homer is watching a baseball game during his month without beer, he's surrounded by other spectators drinking while Homer comments that he finds the game boring. Is this a jab at baseball calling it a boring game? Is it saying ''all'' sporting events are boring while sober? Or is it implying Homer himself doesn't actually like baseball or sports and only watches games to drink?

Rewriting slightly; it says a lot about how politically correct society has become that a good deed done by Lisa Simpson, of all people, would fall under Values Dissonance.

* ValuesDissonance: While Lisa would likely still want to cure world hunger in later seasons -- albeit she ''probably'' wouldn't use anabolic steroids as part of the process -- she'd most likely be horrified at her ImagineSpot featuring a poor Indian family worshipping an image of her, due to its [[WhiteMansBurden white savior]] overtones.

* ValuesDissonance: FairForItsDay: Lisa's science fair project involves making a tomato grow huge by injecting it with anabolic steroids and planning to use it to cure world hunger. While Lisa would likely still want to cure world hunger in later seasons -- albeit she ''probably'' wouldn't use anabolic steroids as part of the process -- she'd most likely be horrified at her ImagineSpot featuring a poor Indian family worshipping an image of her, due to its [[WhiteMansBurden white savior]] overtones.overtones. However, this was much easier to ignore in the 90s, what with the idea of it missing the forest for the trees and that an 8-year-old girl planned a science fair project that ''could cure world hunger'' in the first place.

** After leaving the Duff Brewery with a drunk Barney, Homer gets pulled over by the police and checked if he is drunk. After being caught to be over the legal limit with a breathalyser at Barney's suggestion, Homer is arrested.\\
'''You'd Expect:''' They would do the same check on Barney.\\
'''Instead:''' Chief Wiggum simply asks him to drive the car home without checking if Barney is also drunk.
** After school, Lisa runs back inside the building to grab her math book and needs someone to hold her abnormally enlarged tomato.\\
'''You'd Expect:''' Seriously, could Lisa not have someone else hold her project for her, or better yet, just take it with her as she runs back inside?\\
'''Instead:''' She gives it to ''[[ThePrankster Bart]]'' to hold it, knowing full well how this would end.\\
'''As a result:''' Bart ends up hurling the enlarged tomato at a bent-over Skinner as it hits the latter's rear end, ruining Lisa's project. Sorry, Lisa. Your own damn fault.

please do not endorse ecofascism on simpsons wiki pages

* FridgeBrilliance: Lisa using anabolic steroids to stop world hunger actually could work, since anabolic steroids causes infertility. Fewer people leads to more food...

i think it's pretty clearly supposed to be a case of sibling rivalry here. bart just wins the match.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The subplot of this episode wants the audience to sympathize with Lisa due to having her project ruined by Bart, which unfortunately falls short since aside from the fact that Lisa was dumb enough to give Bart her science project believing he would be trusted to hold on to it for her, she had also used Bart as a guinea pig in retaliation, causing a combination of physical and psychological damage and humiliation. So the sympathy falls short on her part and Bart getting first prize becomes nothing short of poetic justice.

**Bart hurling Lisa's gigantic tomato at Principal Skinner, a Vietnam veteran who suffers from PTSD is both horrific and hilarious (especially when Lisa comes back to find Principal Skinner shaking in shock while kids laugh at him).
**The traffic school video that's nothing but car crashes set to wacky comedy music and cheesy puns narrated by Troy [=McClure=].
