* HilariousInHindsight: Lionel Hutz tells Abe that he must spend a night in a HauntedHouse in order to get the inheritance that Bea gave him, only to [[SubvertedTrope quickly add that he's just kidding]]. A [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS7E15BartTheFink later episode]] would have the Simpsons be required to spend a night in a HauntedHouse to get an inheritance that a late family member left them ''for real''...and the experience there turned out to be better than staying at their own house.

* HarsherInHindsight: The conclusion of this episode, with Grampa Simpson using the money to renovate the retirement home becomes a massive case of HappyEndingOverride in later episodes, where it is shown the residents [[ElderAbuse being often mistreated.]] And their situation, unlike in this episode, is always PlayedForLaughs.

Even worse, later instances confirm that the staff confiscate any new perks the residents gain to keep them low-energy and managable.

The later contradiction of Abe being a widower with one son is more Early Installment Weirdness than Hindsight (especially given that this is only the second season out of over 30). The last one is just a shoehorn.

* HilariousInHindsight: When introducing himself to Bea, Abe mentions that he's a widower with one child, both of which would be contradicted in later episodes:
** Abe and Mona divorced in the 1960s when she was forced to go on the run from Mr. Burns, and Abe told Homer that she died. Abe eventually married Rita [=LaFleur=], but that marriage also ended in divorce.
** He has ''three'' children: Abby, Herb, and Homer. Abby was conceived during WWII, and Abe doesn't meet her until she's 58, so he doesn't know about her. Herb was revealed two episodes earlier, and Abe gave him up for adoption, with Mona asking that he not tell anyone about Herb.
** The amusement park Abe goes to, DIZ-NEE-LAND, has a sign clarifying that the park is not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company. Roughly 30 years later the Walt Disney Company would become the owners of The Simpsons through buying out 20th Century Fox and most of it's properties.

* NarmCharm: When Abe learns about Bea's death, he says "they may say she died of a burst ventricle, but I know she died of a broken heart." With his borderline sobbing tone, even a cheesy line like that becomes tearjerking.

** Finally, he has two working kidneys, both of whom rumpled in a later episode because Homer would not let him use the toilet for very selfish reasons.
*** Except he said "One working lung", not kidney.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Beatrice could have been a good step-grandmother to Bart and Lisa, and a good step-mother to Homer. Sadly, she passed away in her first appearance.
