* AngstWhatAngst: Bart isn't bothered by being bumped down from fourth to third grade except insofar as it will mean sharing a class with Lisa. Compare his struggle not to get held back in "Bart Gets an F." FridgeBrilliance kicks in when you remember that "Sideshow Bob Roberts" saw him being downgraded all the way to kindergarten, which he actually enjoyed. He enjoys himself just as much in this episode, easily acing third-grade exams due to remembering all the answers from the year before.

A bit more context.

* HilariousInHindsight: When Bart plots to ruin Lisa's flag, he says that when he's through with it, it will be a "Bart-mangled banner." [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS15E21BartMangledBanner One season later...]]

%% * UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: While Bart is very much a jerk for giving Lisa a hard time, it can be also be difficult to sympathize with Lisa. She's always been the {{Parental Favorit|ism}}e for her prodigious intelligence -- which she regularly flaunts -- and is now in the rare position where she's forced to admit that she isn't the Einstein she always thought she was. Bart was wrong for bullying her, but Lisa deserved the blow to her ego.

If Lisa was forced to admit that she wasn’t the genius she thought she was, than perhaps this wasn’t unintentional.

Cut down on the apparent complaining.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: While Bart is very much a jerk for giving Lisa a hard time, it's not like she's any better. She's always been the better end of the ParentalFavoritism for her prodigious intelligence -- that she routinely lorded over ''everybody'' -- and is now in the rare position where she's forced to confront the fact that she isn't the Einstein she always thought she was. Bart was wrong for bullying her, but Lisa deserved the blow to her mammoth ego. Naturally, she doesn't learn anything and goes back to the 2nd Grade, content to be an outcast as long as she can remain [[InsufferableGenius mega-genius]].
