She [[spoiler: consensually kisses Jace ''once'', while he and Clary are still convinced they're siblings, and promptly decides that he's not her type]], is a fairly kind person overall (albeit one with no brain-to-mouth filter), and [[spoiler: it's implied that she's trying to figure out if she's a lesbian, or possibly even asexual]] - yet she is ''constantly'' turned into a cruel, backstabbing, relationship-smashing harpy who gets between Clary and Jace, especially in AU fanfics.\\

* CanonSue: Clary has often been accused of being this. The similarity of her name to [[AuthorAvatar the author's]] doesn't help (though, interestingly, Cassandra Clare is actually a pen name).

* CounterpartComparison: Many fans and journalists have noted the similarities between the characters in Mortal Instruments to Clare's older fanfiction work Fanfic/TheDracoTrilogy. Ginny is Clary, Jace is Draco, Harry is Simon, Luke is Lupin, Seamus is Simon, etc.

* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Both played straight and subverted. In the latter case it is more often "Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What I Want!" This is most often true of Clary and Jace. Clary frequently dives head-first into danger for no better reason than that she feels that she, and she alone, ''must'' play the heroine and complete some task that could be delegated to one of her more experienced friends or to the Clave. Or at least that she could show some patience and wait until they could tackle the problem as a group. Jace has a similar tendency, although in his case it is even more pronounced, and he is more of {{Hypocrite}} about it because he is typically trying to circumvent the Clave, yet he often turns around and preaches to Downworlders about how ''they'' need to adhere to the Law (of which he is an enforcer).

Later on Jace explains that Judas did the same to Jesus to identify to the Roman solders who Jesus was. However the situation in the book has literally no parallels to the situation with Judas and Jesus.

* EasilyForgiven: This could be argued to be the case with Clary. The only reason that there even ''is'' an Infernal Cup is because she had one goal and only one goal: save Jace. Stopping Sebastian was a distant second, and in fact she helped prevent Jace from ruining Sebastian's entire plan during a moment when he escaped from Sebastian's mind control and wanted to take the unfinished Infernal Cup to the Clave. But because Clary was afraid that the Clave would kill Jace, as his {{Synchronization}} with Sebastian would lead to the latter's death as well, she calls Sebastian back in to reassert control over Jace. So not only did she deny Jace free will, but all the Shadowhunters that were forcibly converted into Endarkened and all the deaths they caused are directly her fault. But this is not regarded as a major issue.
