** "Silver Will" is more than worth mentioning, since it isn't an overstatement to say that this music may be even more popular than the game itself. Hell, it's even listed as the Best RPG Battle theme on 2ch ''and'' Youtube! And then there's the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSHVVj0aWJs vocal version]], which takes it even ''further''.

Those tropes are not YMMV.

* ColonCancer: Not by itself, but as the Legend of Heroes franchise is a spinoff of the Dragon Slayer series, the full title of the first game would be ''Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes VI: Trails In The Sky: First Chapter''.

* DoingItForTheArt: How else do you explain XSEEDGames's willingness to localize a trilogy of games with such ginormous amounts of text, which no other localizer showed signs of having plans to work on? With one person metaphorically nearly killing herself, and another LITERALLY nearly killing himself!

* NoExportForYou: This is being fixed at last courtesy of XSEEDGames, although it still took ''nearly seven years'' for the first chapter to make the jump across the sea, and for a long time fans had resigned themselves to never seeing a release. (The fate of the PC version remains a question-mark.) The delay is mostly attributed to Falcom's past rocky relations with other localizers/publishers in America and the sheer, staggering ''size'' of the scripts for each game. The second chapter had to ship on ''two'' [=UMDs=] for the PSP release, after all.
** And after nice amount of purchase, Trails in The Sky The 3rd is in process of being localized.

* PromotedFanboy: XSEEDGames once proclaimed that the game translators are fans of the trilogy.

* TroubledProduction: The translation of the games has been an epic saga punctuated by incompatible formats, anemic sales, weird bugs, and [[http://kotaku.com/the-curse-of-kiseki-how-one-of-japans-biggest-rpgs-bar-1740055631 Andrew Dice only barely having his attempted suicide interrupted by his partner]]...
** Not to mention the PREVIOUS perosn nearly killed themself, metaphorically, with overwork.

* DiscOneNuke: [[BlowYouAway Aerial]] is at least a downplayed version. It's the first multi-target attack spell you get, it's cheap to cast, and the center point of its area of effect can be set to any square, not just where an enemy is. White Gehenna is similar, but it's NonElemental, costs 1.5x as much to cast, and has a chance of inflicting [[StandardStatusEffects Faint]], though it's not available as early.

Added DiffLines:

** Among specific abilities, Earth Wall counts. It's a magic spell that creates a barrier around anyone within its area of effect (which can be all four characters in the party if they're close enough together) that will nullify the next attack that would hit that person. One would think that such a spell would be hard to come by, but nope, all it requires is 4 earth element units to get it and 30 EP to cast it (70 in SC).

** Olivier isn't a slouch either in that territory: his damage output may not be anything special but the area he truly excels at are magic and his crafts: Quick Draw can shoot many enemies at the same time along with a quite decent range, while Happy Trigger replenishes a rather sizable portion of the party's HP, both costing mere 20 CP. Along with an excellent orbment setup, Olivier manages to be one of the most useful party members in FC, especially in the final chapter.

** The Abyss Worms in SC, especially if you don't catch on to the fact that they counter all attacks with "Earth Shaker", a powerful attack that hits all characters on the field. They spawn in large numbers, practically begging to be taken out with AoE attacks, but doing so is virtually guaranteed to result in a complete party wipe, with multiple Earth Shakers coming back the other way. So, instead, you have to painstakingly wittle them down one at a time while healing the damage the rest of them do with their basic attacks.

Olivier in particular is essentially NarmCharm on two legs.

** Loewe in SC. He is such a formidable foe that the game actually lets you choose to proceed without defeating him. Loewe will create two doppelgangers (which, unlike previous Enforcers, are not illusions but full-fledged new enemies to deal with), interrupt your casts (and his doppelgangers share this ability), is flanked by two tenacious mini-bosses and will open the fight with his S-Craft, Dead Emperor Sword, which will most certainly hit all your team members (or only 3 of them if they are spaced out) and possibly kill them outright, or leave them at death's doorstep at best (if hit, [[GlassCannon Tita]] will never survive this attack, no matter how high her level is). In short, you will begin the fight severely wounded (unless you bring Kevin with you and use his S-Craft, Grail Sphere, right off the bat), and chances are Loewe will finish you off quickly if you don't heal your party to full health immediatly. And if you manage to survive the first turns, then you will be outnumbered once the doppelgangers join the fray. The saving grace is that Loewe and the mini-bosses (but not the doppelgangers) aren't immune to Clock Down, allowing you some breathing room once you manage to stick the status debuff on them. For all these reasons, Loewe is considered to be the hardest boss of the game, even harder than the actual final boss.

* AnticlimaxBoss: Loewe used to be this, but after Falcom released a patch to upgrade him, he's sometimes considered to be harder than even the ''last boss''.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Metric tons of it. There is no ''bad'' music in ''Trails'', only tracks that are marginally less awesome than others.
** "Hoshi no Arika" or "The Whereabouts of the Stars", ranked first on several "Best Game Theme Song Ever" lists in Japan. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyTwnoOkvoE Give it a gander.]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHCLsd0wsMU The Dream Continues]] is an absolutely beautiful song that plays during several of SC's most poignant moments and is definitely worth a listen.
* DemonicSpiders: Photon Judges. They have high HP and defense, can interrupt your arts, spam an attack that can hit multiple characters, are immune to every status effect, and have no elemental weaknesses. These things [[BossInMookClothing are probably harder to defeat than some of the]] ''[[BossInMookClothing bosses]]'' [[BossInMookClothing you fight]] shortly before they first show up, and [[ThisIsGonnaSuck they come in groups of three alongside several other enemies]] to boot.
* DieForOurShip: surprisingly [[AvertedTrope averted]]. While this series has ShipTease for most of the cast (even the HoYay and LesYay variants), the ShipToShipCombat is mostly civil and near to no-existance. This naturally leads to ShipMates, as explained below.
* DoingItForTheArt: How else do you explain XSEEDGames's willingness to localize a trilogy of games with such ginormous amounts of text, which no other localizer showed signs of having plans to work on?
* EpilepticTrees: One's worthy of noting outside the WMG page, with the speculation that this game may take place in the future of the world ''VideoGame/{{Ys}}'' is set in. Of course, this crops up with other Falcom games and is usually scoffed at... but then ''Alternative Saga'' came out and the shaking trees '''caught fire'''. The WordOfGod hasn't explicitly clamped down on this or confirmed it... yet. Another popular option is that it takes place in the far, far future of the same world as the Gagharv trilogy.
** The idea that the Kiseki world is the future of Ys seems exclusive to the English-speaking (and non-Japanese-reading) fandom; the game itself says the characters were drawn from different worlds (the setting is also largely derived from Xanadu Next but nobody seems to think that it's the same world as the Ys or Kiseki games) and it's pretty clear from [[spoiler:the [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight lack of reaction]] to [[BackFromTheDead Chester and Loewe]] and Lloyd not recognizing Renne or the Brights in [[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Zero no Kiseki]] that the events of the game didn't 'really' happen.]] The connections to Gagharv are much more solid, mostly centered around the Doll Knight novels from Cagesong of the Ocean.
** Then there's the painting of Gagharv found in The Third's prologue. One could guess whether the painting is just from the painter's imagination or not.
** The Gagharv references could be justified with the fact that most of ''Trails'' staffs are [[AscendedFanboy huge Gagharv trilogy fans]]. But....
* EvenBetterSequel: While the backstory and setting of ''FC'' is sweeping in scope, the combat is fun and the characters likable, ''FC'' ultimately plays a fair number of tropes relatively straight [[spoiler:at least up until its very last act]] and even comes across as a little cliche at times, and really serves as more of a setting-establishment piece. It was ''SC'' that completely blew the lid off of player expectations (and a whole mess of tropes) across the board and cemented ''Trails''' place in history and the Japanese gaming zeitgeist. (Given what [[OneGameForThePriceOfTwo initial reactions to SC's announcement were]], there's a level on which this is intensely amusing.)
** This could be applied for this series to the previous "Legend of Heroes" series, too.
* FashionVictimVillain: The Lord of Phantasma, anyone?
* GameBreaker: Agate in SC, [[spoiler:Alan]] in 3rd. In SC, Agate has a skill that trades HP for 150 CP, which means that when paired with a good healer, a pattern of 1: Agate takes massive damage for massive CP boost 2: Healer replenishes Agate's Health, 3: Agate uses S-Break to wreak havoc can make virtually any boss easy to defeat. For [[spoiler:Alan]], he has a combination of awesome stats, a surprisingly good Orbment setup, and super-low cooldown on his Crafts so he can get lots of turns. Not to mention that his second S-craft, Ouka Zangestu, is one of the most powerful moves in the game.
** In Alternative Saga, Loewe. His Arc Drain has the ability to drain the enemies SP, if it hits 3 enemies it would refill the skill's AP cost and add an extra for it so the skill pays for it's own cost. Not to mention his Kienzan is not only fast but also has the power that rivals an Extra Skill.
* GoddamnedBoss: Chapter 1 ends with a fight against three monsters that can and will spam a LifeDrain attack on you. They were annoying enough when fought one at a time as sub-bosses in the dungeon leading up to that point.
* GodModeSue: Cassius is OP, both as an NPC and when he is playable. When he appears, you can very much assume that the heroes' behinds have been saved from whatever impending doom might befall them, no exception.
* MagnificentBastard: Cassius. A rare case where such a character is on the protagonist's side. [[spoiler:Mostly.]]
* MemeticMutation: Among the Japanese fanbase - [[{{Lolicon}} LOLICON]] DIVE!!!
** On /vg/, spamming "TITS SC WHEN" is this. Another variation is "TITS ON STEAM WHEN".
** Also, GameFAQs seems to be fond of making fun of people who question Estelle's behavior towards [[DepravedBisexual Olivier]].
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler: Loewe vs Joshua]]. Multiple people have called the fight, without irony, even more epic than the entire climax sequence of ''Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren''. Made even more impressive by the fact that it's all done ''WITH SPRITES'', and it ''still'' manages to be completely awesome.
** [[spoiler: Villains may they be, you've gotta admit the scene when the Legions storm the Grancell Castle is completely awesome; it's four {{Badass}}es versus one BadassArmy and our dear villains proves to be the more badass force.]]
** Both of the StormingTheCastle events in the final chapter of FC. Made even more awesome in that both times the heroes are able to pull it off with a group of less than 20 people!
* MoralEventHorizon: Weissman crosses this when he reveals that [[spoiler:not only did he [[BrainwashedAndCrazy mind control Joshua and turn him into a puppet]] but also indirectly cause the attack on Joshua's village that led to Joshua's sister's death and made Joshua and Loewe's lives a living hell]].
* NightmareFuel: Man, by the end of the main plot a lot of characters have generous helpings of this in their backstories. The younger Ouroboros members [[spoiler: like Joshua and Renne]] have it particularly bad. [[spoiler:And then there's what Weissman does during the game, and what ends up happening to him...]] Needless to say, despite being ultimately optimistic this game gets really, really dark at times.
** [[spoiler:Weissmann's S-Craft, Another Dimension. Full stop.]]
* PortmanteauSeriesNickname: With the English version, the game's initials are "[=TiTS=]". Whether this is a bad thing or not is best left to the viewer.
* PromotedFanboy: XSEEDGames once proclaimed that the game translators are fans of the trilogy.
* SequelDisplacement: The trilogy-cum-franchise has proven to be so popular that it's basically supplanted its parent Legend Of Heroes franchise; the following two games are ''VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki'' and ''Ao no Kiseki'', both of which still technically keep the "Legend of Heroes" franchise title but practically as a footnote, and don't even bother with numbering any longer. And the next one, aka ''Nayuta no Kiseki'' drops "The Legend of Heroes" altogether, but that's because it's a SpinOff. ''Sen no Kiseki'' restores "The Legend of Heroes" because it's a main entry, though.
* ShipMates: Joshua/Estelle shippers tend to support Agate/Tita and Olivier/Schera as well.
** As sequels popped out, they add these ships in their list: Zane/Kirika, [[spoiler:Loewe/Karin]], [[spoiler:Lechter]]/Kloe and Kevin/Ries.
** Those who ships [[HoYay Olivier/Mueller]] pairs [[LesYay Schera with Aina or Lucciola and Julia with Kloe]].
* ThatOneBoss:
** [[spoiler:Renne]] also tends to make people pull their hair out in SC, [[spoiler:particularly the last fight with her when she's accompanied by Pater Mater. It's bad enough that she can use her reaper-esque S-Crafts to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg0KvcpNi78 one shot your entire party]] if you're positioned badly. When she's accompanied by a mountain of steel and HP that can punt you across the arena and ''revive her'' when she's knocked out? The suffering never ends.]]
** [[spoiler:Grimoire!Kevin and his cannons]] from The Third. For starters, [[spoiler:he likes to spam Grail Sphere EVERY TURN. And the cannons...OHMAIGAWD THE CANNONS. Unless you bring Kloe for her +50% Def S-Craft bonus, you won't survive against their 3-hit cannonballs]].
** The spider boss in Chapter 5 of The Third might qualify too. [[spoiler:Let's say that [[MamaBear you hurt its children too much]].]]
** In TC, [[spoiler:Cassius and the Black Knight]].
** SC also has [[spoiler:Captain Amalthea's]] tank at the end of Chapter 3. Its HP and defense are ''stupidly'' high for this point in the game, ''[[FromBadToWorse and]]'' it's only the second fight of [[MarathonBoss three consecutive boss battles]]. (The third one, fortunately, is easier, but the tank is practically a MarathonBoss on its own. And it doesn't exactly slouch in attack power either.)
* ThatOneAttack: The final boss of FC has one called Death Rage. It's not actually a OneHitKill, but it does ''ridiculously'' high damage (as in, around '''1900''', when even 700 or 800 would be considered high for other attacks encountered around the same time in the game), so unless you are overleveled/have invested heavily in high-tier defense and HP quartz/are at full or near-full HP (and aren't [[GlassCannon Tita]])/all of the above, it might as well be one. Though you can still NoSell it with Earth Guard or Earth Wall.
** Also, pretty much ''any'' attack with a high chance of inflicting status effects (bonus points if it's Faint, Petrify, or Freeze) might qualify.
* TierInducedScrappy: Some people consider Josette one in the 3rd, as she has crappy stats, no noteworthy crafts, and a S-craft that requires the player to win a mini game just to unlock it.
* TooCoolToLive: [[spoiler: [[MasterSwordsman Master]] [[ThatOneBoss Swordsman]] with a [[BlingBlingBang Golden]] [[CoolSword Sword]]? Rides on a [[HumongousMecha black metal dragon]]? Silver-haired purple-eyed AloofBigBrother for the male lead? Has the most awesome {{Leitmotif}}? Voiced by Creator/HikaruMidorikawa, named [[AwesomeMcCoolName Leonhardt]] and known as [[RedBaron The]] [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Sword Emperor]]? Admit it, it was the only way for the Sora no Kiseki world to not to be frozen by Loewe's epic coolness.]]
** [[spoiler: Although his subsequent appearence in 3rd and his [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight apparent]] [[BackFromTheDead resurrection]] in Alternative Saga suggest that Falcom might consider him Too Cool To Die.]]
* ToyShip: Harry and Mina in Bose city. Somewhat hard to notice as they're non-essential [=NPCs=] that the player has to talk to on their own initiative.
* TheWoobie: Joshua, Loewe, Kevin, and Renne.
* TheUntwist: The {{Black Knight}}'s identity is so obvious, [[LampshadeHanging even the characters weren't surprised when they saw his true face]], and in case you haven't figured it out [[spoiler: it's Loewe.]]
* UselessUsefulSpell: Did ''anyone'' ever actually use [[StatusBuff Sylphen Wing]] during the game? Then there are the speed buffs, Clock Up and Clock Up EX, which only really become worth using toward the end of the game when they actually last a decent time (and by then, there is little point in ever casting the lower-tier buff since you likely have enough quartz to use the upgraded one). Though the game's only actual status effect spell (as in, just causes a status effect and nothing else, not an attack spell with a percent chance of causing one) is actually a subversion, if not an outright inversion: Chaos Brand inflicts confusion, and it works even on quite a few bosses, so you can easily cast it on, say, the Special Ops Guards or [[spoiler:the opposing teams during the Martial Arts Competition]] and [[HilarityEnsues watch them beat each other up]].
