** Opinions on the [=PS5=] remake vary a good amount when it comes to the amount of work put into it and the price point of $70 US. Defenders will claim things like it's mostly Sony haters who have problems with it with plenty of additions and fixes to the original version of the game and, to them, the remake is well worth the price of admission due to that. Detractors bring up how there wasn't as much work done to justify the price, as it's nothing more than a glorified remaster with rebuilt graphics and added bells and whistles, as they reused a lot of the original version's motion capture work and all of the voice recordings, meaning that not a lot of work went into it outside of rebuilding the graphics, redone A.I., and added bells and whistles and it would've been better at $40-$50 US when released as a result. It gets especially bad when other companies have released graphically-enhanced remakes with the same kind of work put into them, sometimes more, and charged less money for them, sometimes having more games in the package too from later in their series'.

The interactions with the Infected are affected as well; Stalkers aren't as easy to detect with Listen Mode as they were in the original game and Clickers have their echolocation scream they gained in ''Part II'' to detect enemies in front of them.

** The flamethrower is comically overpowered. Fire is guaranteed to kill everything except for bloaters, so you just have spray enemies long enough to light them on fire and they are dead. It's only initial shortcoming is that the range is rather small, but that can be upgraded, along with the damage. At max damage, even Bloaters will melt rather fast. It's telling that it's the final weapon that you get in the game. And with Joel [[spoiler:being out of commission for most of the Winter chapter]], you don't have that much time to really use it. But for the encounters you DO have it for, it trivializes them, even on Grounded difficulty (Despite limited ammo, as long as the player taps the trigger instead of holding it down, you can burn dozens enemies to death without depleting the fuel too much, especially if you have the Range upgrade).

** The humble bow and arrow is a godsend in stealth sections for allowing you to silently pick off foes from a distance. One shot is enough to kill basic infected or humans if they aren’t aware of you, so if you’re careful you can clear entire encounters without blowing your cover once. Even better is that you can almost always retrieve the arrows from corpses so a meager supply of arrows can last a long time if you’re good enough with the bow.

** Thanks to the [=PS5=]'s stronger engine compared to the [=PS3=] and even the [=PS4=], the remake adds a lot of touch ups to the original's already pretty stunning graphics. The character models (especially for Ellie and Tess) were tweaked to look more realistic, the lighting and shadows are more natural and atmospheric, the background textures are more detailed and polished, and the framerate was bumped up to 60 FPS for more smoother cutscenes and gameplay.

However, it's considered pretty average and doesn't really add anything new most people couldn't find in a different third person action game at the time of release. ** They didn't do too good a job on the eyes of unimportant characters.
** Rather oddly, this example occurs only in the CG pre-rendered cutscenes but the facial features of any character, even important ones, look sunken and hollow.
