* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct: For those who dismissed the Driver as being a generic action hero whose only function is to be a BadassDriver, Creator/CliveOwen really gets to show off his acting range in "The Follow", whose moody atmosphere lends the Driver a bit more depth as a character, and in "Powder Keg", in which Owen absolutely manages to sell [[spoiler:the Driver's reaction to Harvey's death]] as the massive TearJerker moment it's supposed to be. "Star" also gives him the opportunity to showcase his comedic acting skills.

** Creator/JonBernthal plays an evil private military contractor in "The Escape". A year later he'd be taking on Anvil operatives in ''Series/ThePunisher2015''.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Holt and Dr. Phillips from "The Escape" became quite popular with viewers, simply due to the fact that they're played by Creator/JonBernthal and Creator/VeraFarmiga, respectively.
* OneSceneWonder: Since the Driver, while well-liked, is pretty much a blank slate character-wise, the people he's tasked with protecting are usually much more interesting than he is. The most commonly-cited examples are the spoiled celebrity played by Music/{{Madonna}} in "Star" and the war reporter played by Creator/StellanSkarsgard in "The Powder Keg".

** Creator/AlejandroGonzalezInarritu had made a bit of a splash with ''Film/AmoresPerros'', which had come out a year before, but he was still an up-and-coming director a long way from being the big name he is nowadays, making him a standout among the established and well-known directors that BMW had hired.

* HellIsThatNoise: In "Ticker", the contents of the briefcase must be kept below a certain temperature. The case is damaged and a beeper starts going off as the contents begin to get closer to the danger zone. At the end of the episode, the Hire is startled to hear that beeping sound again... but it's his car's "Door Ajar" warning.
