* HarsherInHindsight: The SG1 episode 200, which has one sequence mocking ''exactly'' this sort of thing ("younger, edgier" cast, HotterAndSexier, soap opera bits... did they take that scene and use it as a ''blueprint?'')

** It can come if you watch it, but only if you take the [[HypeAversion super realistic]] [[SeriousBusiness cry of the]] Fans at face value, compare it too much to the original S-G-1 and if you have low tolerance [[EverybodyRemembersTheStripper for that]] [[WillTheyOrWontThey kind of]] [[RomanticPlotTumor plot]].

* HollywoodHomely: A milder case than most, but still, Eli would be considered average if not slightly above.

** Not to mention [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFgoqzXz-Pg the music that plays]] during Destiny's [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome flight through a star]].
** Subverted with "Thus Sprach Zarathusra" (the theme from TwoThousandAndOneASpaceOdyssey). No one can argue that its awesome, and its Volker's favorite piece of music. So when he goes in for surgery, Brody puts it on to relax him...but quickly realizes that its not very relaxing. He tries to turn it off, and Numa Numa comes on instead.

** Subverted with "Thus Sprach Zarathusra" (the theme from TwoThousandAndOneASpaceOdyssey). No one can argue that its awesome, and its Volker's favorite piece of music. How the universe would have handled a ship full of Rushes, we'll never know.]]

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Nicholas Rush is a {{Jerkass}} scientist; Rodney [=McKay=] is a Jerkass scientist. The two never share a scene together in "Seizure".

** The galaxy is a truly terrifying place, and it only gets worse with each episode. Chestbursters, giant spiders, and killer bugs, [[TheWizardOfOz oh my!]]

* {{Narm}}: Dr. Rush's lines early in the series descend into this at times. This is possibly deliberate, as a way of showing the character's descent deeper and deeper into insanity. He turns it down later, though certainly not because he's any less crazy. It's as much due to his issues becoming more internalized as getting better.

** Semi-justified, as after that outburst Rush promptly faints, and seems embarrassed when TJ points out he is suffering caffeine-nicotine withdrawal and hasn't slept since he got on the ship.

* TheUntwist: Telford is a mole. So unsurprising it's surprising. YMMV, of course.

** As far as the gate is concerned, this is probably due to the much more varied environments and angles we see the gate in compared to previous shows. To initially save money, the gate effect was filmed (for the original SG1 show) from a number of angles and these stock pieces used over and over.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The ship is a thing of beauty, as is its so-far-exclusive hyperspace window effect. Also, the Stargate surface is so pretty it's hypnotic (and it ain't just down to advances in special effects tech - StargateContinuum's isn't as pretty.)

** That is ''far'' from a universal view. Consider that it was cancelled due to ''people not watching it.''

* TheUntwist: Telford is a mole. So unsurprising it's surprising. YMMV, of course.

* InformedAttributes: Matthew ''freaking'' Scott. We get told that he's the golden boy of the ship and the best one to lead if Young should abdicate... when, he's a ''PATHETIC'' military officer. He never listens to orders, he never thinks before he acts, he's proven time and again, he'll doom his friends and team if it means rescuing Chloe... and he's the most uninteresting character on the ship. Everything about him is so bland and dull, he's the Stargate equivalent of "Woodstump".

* FetishFuel: Rhona Mitra (Eden from ''{{Doomsday}}'' or Sonja from ''{{Underworld}}'', also the first Lara Croft model). In leather.
