* ContinuityLockOut: ''Voyager'' finally re-establishes contact with Starfleet circa mid-Season 6 of ''Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'', which was smack dab in the middle of the Dominion War storyline. Anyone not following ''Deep Space Nine'' in addition to ''Voyager'' will ironically be as lost as ''Voyager'' itself.

** This also counts as an in-story example for the characters, too. Since ''Voyager'' has been marooned on the other side of the Galaxy for over 3 years at this point, they obviously have had no way of knowing what's been happening back home in the Alpha Quadrant. Thus, the Doctor has no idea who or what the Dominion is, or why the Federation would be war with them.

Not YMMV.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: While they play it for laughs with a C plot on Voyager of Tom and Harry trying to program a replacement EMH, it makes a clear point. Tom is simply nowhere near competent or skilled enough to be a replacement CMO for the Doctor. Janeways decision to more or less pressure the Doctor to transmit himself across an alien relay network to a Starfleet ship and hope he makes it really seems reckless in the extreme given the fact that if the Doctor is lost, they will essentially be loosing perhaps the one irreplaceable member of Voyagers crew. While getting word to Starfleet of Voyagers situation would be ideal of course, it's hardly an immediate life-or-death situation and could have had catestrophic consequences for the crew if they lost their single qualified Doctor.

** ''Series/StarTrekPicard'' would show that the Romulans have a severe distrust of artificial intelligences, with WordOfGod describing the term "Romulan cyberneticist" as being akin to "Nazi doctor". Thus, Rekar and Nevala's threats against the Doctor during his interrogation come off as much more ominous.

** The [=EMH=] Mark II getting curious about ''sex.'' Oof, let's just say Andy Dick in recent years has gotten a notorious reputation in Hollywood for being a bit too, uh, handsy with his co-stars, and pretty much anyone who has the misfortune to be around him when he's on drugs.
** The Doctor gets taken aback when the EMH Mark II smugly calls him "the inferior program". In "Life Line", the Doctor finds out from Dr. Zimmerman that [[ReassignedToAntarctica the entire EMH Mark One line was demoted to menial duties]] after being considered a failure by Starfleet.
