In order to convince other mages at Risberg that he mastered [[TheDarkArts goetia]] and unleashed a demon over whom he lost control, Sorel has two ogre-trolls and a hunchback commit massacres. They murder fifty people--including children, among whom a 5-year-old boy who is ripped apart--in very brutal ways. Though at first disgusted, Degerlund participates in killings. Capturing Geralt, Sorel gloats about the massacres and tells him that he would vivisect him [[ForTheEvulz for fun]]. After Geralt's escape, Degerlund is put under house arrest at Risberg. Despite this, Sorel continues to commit murders, killing countless people. He also beheads one of two mages whom he failed to convince that a demon possessed him. Before their final encounter, Geralt finds a body of Degerlund's last victim, a naked [[WouldHurtAChild 6-year old girl]] whose stomach is opened in the shape of the letter "Y".
