** The Bizarros. They only appeared in a single episode, but it was arguably the most memorable episode of the series. Bizarro Quinn seems to be an Ensemble Darkhorse among the Bizarros.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** The end of "A Legacy of Laughter" is a tribute to Captain Murphy, who was played by the late Harry Goz. (Goz passed away during Season 3).
** A meta moment involved Tornado Shanks's casting. He was played by Michael Goz, son of Harry Goz. The bumper indicated they wouldn't have cast anyone else.

* SpiritualSuccessor: ''WesternAnimation/FriskyDingo'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Archer}}''.

* FridgeHorror: Wiki/TheOtherWiki lists the known ranks of the main characters. Guess who had the highest after Murphy/Shanks (and presumably has control of Sealab when they're between captains)? ''Sparks.'' (He's a commander, the others are either lieutenant commander or lieutenant.) Granted, he's one of the non-stupid characters. He's also insane and evil.

Ironically, in the year 2021 Creator/AdultSwim still airs anime via the Creator/{{Toonami}} block, while 70/30 Productions, the creators of ''Sealab 2021'' went out of business back in 2009.

** Captain Murphy. There's a reason that many people consider the episodes after he was written out of the show to be inferior. He was so popular that the fourth season finale of ''WesternAnimation/{{Archer}}'' was a tribute to the character.

The theme of a group of scientists and assistants isolated in an underwater laboratory, desending into madness and boredom, hits a whole lot harder.
** Murphy wearing masks of various sorts in his later episodes (Added due to Harry Goaz's weakened voice from his declining health at the time) reflects this as well.

Even if it was an IntendedAudienceReaction, the fact remained he wasn't funny, repeating the main joke about him (that his father put his human penis in his mother's shark-gina, something Sharko insisted on repeating over and over again) didn't make it any funnier, and the episodes focused on him were among the worst of the series.
* SeasonalRot: The post-Murphy episodes are viewed as having this problem with less funny jokes, the aforementioned ReplacementScrappy Tornado Shanks, and an increasing amount of TakeThatAudience gags to compensate, particularly against anime fans.
