* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Max seems to try and make up for his jerky and cowardly behavior upon exiting the New York subway along with the main trio, wich could put him on a redemption arc, but [[spoiler:he is quickly attacked and killed by a crazed human literally a page later]].

* CompleteMonster: The brutish [[BullyBulldog Hermann]] is a former fighting dog who, in the wake of humanity's extinction, decides to [[WouldHurtAChild kidnap a human child]] and start [[ColdBloodedTorture torturing]] him for days on end into submission. Dubbing the child "shit-boy" once he finally [[MindRape breaks from Hermann's tortures]], Hermann continues torturing and starving the child for days on end out of nothing more than [[ForTheEvulz pleasure]]. Once the child dies, Hermann furiously targets Rover, Red, and Charlie, resolving to murder Red and turn Charlie and Rover into his new slaves in retribution. Even when confronted on his abusive past, Hermann points out he liked being a fighting dog and had no qualms with doing what his owners wanted, viciously attempting to murder everything in his way in the final battle.

** '''Everything''' about Hermann. A large, brutish bulldog who merrily murders anyone he finds and keeps a human boy on a leash, calling him "shit-boy" to further humiliate him. His very EstablishingCharacterMoment sees him viciously kill childrens and makes the poor kid do the same. And that's not even speaking of the more horrific acts he does to the poor kid, some of which are (thankfully) offscreen.

** [[spoiler:Hermann's own backstory is no better - he was a fighting dog and suffered a lot of abuse from human owners, being forced to kill other dogs in a sick game of bets from the overseers. Worse? Hermann actually ''liked'' being the way feeders made him and enjoyed being a fighting dog, meaning he did all the consequent things (finding the human child and mind-breaking him into being his "shit-boy") out of desire to emulate his human owners.]]

** The way the human race wipes itself out deserves a mention -- a HatePlague (implied to be from space) sweeps seemingly across the entire world and causes humans to kill themselves and each other for no reason in gruesome ways [[BerserkerTears while crying profusely]]. Naturally, some background details are pretty unnerving to check out. Highlights include a man gouging another man's eyes out while being impaled on something and many apartment occupants flinging themselves out to their deaths. Later, we see a dead man's eye being pecked out by a crow as Rover, Red and Charlie make their way through the deserted New York.

** Charlie's feeder fares no better as he pours himself with gasoline and sets himself ablaze. And in his gibberish speech, one can read out words "No" and "God" being spoken over repeatedly. And he doesn't even care that he is still holding Charlie by the leash as he dies, leaving the poor dog trapped and at risk of burning alive -- at least, until Rover and Red spring up to save him.
