* FanPreferredCutContent: Many detractors of the film wished that the deleted alternate version of Blu and Jewel's conversation after the football match, as unlike in the final version, Blu calls out Jewel's selfishness over her decision to force everyone to permanently move to the jungle and leaving her when she lashes at him, but not before stating that he thinks that their relationship only lasted because he was supposedly the last male of their kind, thus her only option.

He may be a villain, but that all seems like [[KarmicOverkill an awful lot for him to go through.]]

** The movie frames Blu's insistence on returning home from the jungle as a selfish decision made without his wife and children in mind. This is despite the fact that he hasn't felt welcome since he first arrived, and the jungle has time and again proven itself to be a dangerous place. He and Jewel also agreed before they left that they would return, and Jewel unilaterally decides that they will be staying--and gets angry with Blu when he's understandably unhappy about it.

* VillainDecay: [[VillainousBreakdown Nigel's downfall in the first film must have really broken him]], because he's nowhere near as threatening as before. He [[spoiler:lost the ability to fly]], no longer has any real power over anyone, is used for comedy much more often and does not have very strong motives for what he does as compared to before. Thankfully he's only a secondary villain in this movie.

* HarsherInHindsight: The whole hidden tribe of Spix's macaws seems like an environmentalist fantasy now that the Spix's macaws are officially considered extinct in the wild.

** The movie establishes the fact that while the Spix's Macaw was formerly thought to be extinct in the wild, they still actually do survive in the Brazilian wilderness. Just a little plot point for the movie, but then in 2016, [[http://www.birdlife.org/americas/news/spix%E2%80%99s-macaw-reappears-brazil a wild Spix's Macaw was actually sighted in Brazil]], despite being formerly classified as "extinct in the wild".
