The fact that he also kept the suicide note and took him blaming Jerry at face value (something massively out of character for Rick, who would usually just callously dismiss the claim) just to kick the dog further doesn't help.

The fact that he actually conserved the suicide note rather than destroy it or pointing out how unreasonable it was for him to blame Jerry ends up just giving Jerry an even worse ending, and feels just callous.
