* SpecialEffectsFailure: There's a scene of a video call between Jade and Ángel Rubio where, if one pays attention to the [[Platform/MicrosoftWindows Windows 10]] taskbar underneath, you can notice Jade is somehow having a video call through UsefulNotes/MSPaint, and with no internet connection to boot.

* UncertainAudience: Critics and viewers weren't sure whether the series wanted to be a high school drama with horror elements or a full on ZombieApocalypse story, as the plot keeps jumping between two separate plotlines. Needless to say, people who were there [[JustHereForGodzilla for the zombies and monsters]] quickly got bored of the high school drama while people who were there for the high school plot weren't really interested in the zombie AfterTheEnd story. Even existing fans of the franchise didn't have it any better, as the high-school drama bits aren't something common in the series and the actual zombie bits are so InNameOnly that it's hard to appreciate. All of this led to a rather tepid reception upon release and it very likely was a factor as to why it was cancelled after one season.

* QuestionableCasting: Creator/LanceReddick as Albert Wesker left quite a lot of people scratching their heads given that the show was described as following the games' canon, spawning a good deal of pre-release EpilepticTrees as to how the RaceLift might've happened in-universe, such as GrandTheftMe. [[spoiler:(As it turns out, the events of the games happened in the show timeline in BroadStrokes, but Wesker was indeed Black all along in this universe.)]] Unlike most cases though, his [[AbilityOverAppearance ability to portray the character]] was never in doubt, and his performance is commonly cited as one of the main redeeming aspects of the show.

Whoops, wrong Anderson. Seeing Wesker's name a lot in the article didn't help; I may also have confused with him with Wes Craven.

* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: A case where this reaction combines with TheyChangedItNowItSucks. A lot of ''Resident Evil'' fans weren't impressed that the series went the same route as the [[Film/ResidentEvilFilmSeries Wes Anderson films]] and focused on a ZombieApocalypse only loosely connected to the games' storyline. Although the games have featured several large-scale zombie virus outbreaks and occasional apocalyptic close-calls, none of the games focus on worldwide societal collapse (most of the threats in the games are contained more to a single, specific area). As such, many fans were frustrated that after finally getting a new live-action ''Resident Evil'' adaptation, it went the same route as the films rather than going with a plot more in line with the games. It doesn't help that over the past decade or so, there had been a glut of zombie apocalypse movies, shows and games, so 2022's ''Resident Evil'' missed an opportunity to do something different.

While her impulsiveness is an intended character flaw, the amount of damage she tends to cause via her reckless actions and her apparent failure to learn from this even as an adult (which includes [[spoiler:repeatedly endangering her own child]]) just made her look worse to viewers.

* IdiotPlot: Despite having reformed after the Raccoon City incident and the numerous other disasters related to them in the following years, Umbrella is still a victim of its own horrible incompetence in which the rest of the world ends up paying for. It's honestly shocking the ZombieApocalypse didn't occur sooner.
** Umbrella is still trying to [[spoiler:find ways of making a profit off of the infamous T-Virus, including ''incorporating it into commercially available medication''. All this despite rather clear evidence that Umbrella can't control the T-Virus or its tendency to mutate at all]].
** Despite suffering multiple containment breaches in the past, Umbrella still has terrible security protocols. [[spoiler:Not only did they lose containment ''again'' at their Tijuana facility forcing Wesker to personally contain the situation, but their main HQ was breached by a pair of high school girls who managed to get in as far as their lab containing T-Virus injected animals. Not a single guard is present to stop them until they accidentally release an infected dog from its cage]].
** Wesker has a moment when he [[spoiler:knows Billie has been infected with the T-Virus and knows perfectly well the dangers the virus poses. Yet instead of finding an excuse to quarantine Billie somewhere safe, he ''allows her to continue going to school and roam around the city like normal''. Sure, Billie is an atypical case and her blood seems to be resisting the virus, but she is presenting symptoms and is thus still a risk]].

* NarmCharm: The "Don't Start Now" dance is completely out of place and random... but the actress' enjoyment of the moment and commitment to it is hard not to, in the very least, admire.

* FridgeLogic:
** The story takes place AfterTheEnd where the T-Virus ruined most of the world as far as the story is concerned and survivors are in small pockets trying to make ends meet. And yet somehow the Umbrella Corporation not only is as active if not moreso than they were before the outbreak, but they're trying to hunt down and kill survivors in their hunt for Jade. Though [[spoiler:Billie]] clearly has unsaid motivations around Jade's daughter for a theoretical season 2, the show doesn't seem to concern itself with explaining how Umbrella is still kicking or why they're outright murderously evil when, in the past story arc, they're near-entirely just CorruptCorporateExecutive evil.
** It also raises the question of [[BroadStrokes just how selective the continuity is]] with what it's adapting. To some degree, the games ''happened'' complete with [[spoiler:Albert Wesker [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil5 dying in a volcano in 2009]].]] And by that point, Umbrella had completely crashed and burned after the Raccoon City Incident. Yet this show, despite [[ContinuityNod partially acknowledging this]], also selectively ''ignores it'', and Umbrella gets to keep doing their thing with questionable medical drugs [[spoiler:laced with T-Virus]] with apparently no government or legal oversight whatsoever despite said incident (and its [[NukeEm solution]]) still having happened.
