* IronWoobie: Charlotte lost her parents in a very young age, raised and educated by her older brother, Duke Adolphus. Growing adult, her brother sells her out to marry a king from another country whom she even never heard of. After meeting her betrothed, King George, and agrees to marry him, she's utterly shocked upon witnessing his sudden changing behavior, thus immediately regrets her decision. Upon learning that there's something wrong about her husband and trying to figure it out, George starts to become despicably distant toward her, even worse the palace (including her right-hand, Brimsley) also persistently deny her claims. Despite feeling deceived, she refuses to give up on finding the truth about George's [[spoiler:apparent mental illness/madness]]; standing up to her mother-in-law, Princess Augusta, and firing Dr Monro. Despite George constantly chases her away out of protecting her, not only does it not stop her from dauntlessly standing by him, but also from loving him.

** More of heartwarming. In "Crown Jewels", when Charlotte checks on George (after saving him from Dr Monro's torturous healing therapy), he spitefully orders her to just leave him, out of protecting her. Yet she remains persistent to stand by him, albeit his warning about his hidden mental illness/madness that might harm her. As if touched by Charlotte's determination, George finally gives in to her followed by tearfully kissing her and hugging her tightly.

** Brimsley and Reynolds dancing together [[SecretRomance in secret]] during a royal ball is a mixture of heartwarming and sad, but an older Brimsley dancing alone at a similar ball decades later, clearly remembering his past lover, is utterly devastating. Especially given that this probably implies Reynolds isn't around in the present day because he's died.

* TearJerker: The final scene. Charlotte comforts George, who's in another episode, but as the two lay under the bed together, he looks over and remembers who she is. The two then flash back to the first time they did this when they were young, and we close the series on a BittersweetEnding. George is still unstable and things aren't perfect, but the love between them hasn't wavered for even a moment.
