** [[spoiler:The battle with the regenerating creature in Peak is significantly more difficult than previous battles with Grimm, as you need to use either Ice Dust or Jack's Cryogenics before the creature will take any damage, and it hits like a truck so you have to both up your stats in the gym beforehand and make sure you heal frequently.]]
** The Pyrobsidian monster on your next visit to Peak is easily the worst designed fight of the game and has no mercy for the unprepared. It's a QTE fight so your stats don't matter, and it isn't afraid to ruin your day. [[GuideDangIt How's picking a choice of three options where only one is the correct one]] [[OneHitKill and the other two send your freshly killed ass to the main menu sound?]] How about doing that more then once? [[SaveScumming Hope you saved a little beforehand or you've got a lot of ground to retread.]]

** The reasoning for this being made was to give Penny a more extended role. Volume 7 ends up bringing her back and giving her a more story-focused story.

Replacing the rather negative comment with a more neutral one.

** This is made even more hilarious because the author himself has a nearly violent hatred of anything from Volume 4 on (and that's being generous to Volume 3) and generally has zero interest in even knowing any content from the show from that point, much less incorporating it; this is why, for example, Penny's canon father, Pietro, has been completely replaced. The accidental resemblance between David's semblance and Jaune's, viewed through that lens, becomes downright uncanny.

** Jaune's semblance's resemblance to David's has nothing on Gillian Asturias from the ''Before the Dawn'' novel, as she is also capable of draining others' Aura to benefit herself or another.

** For a long time it was a running joke of sorts that Raven would always lose in the polls. Often she would get to the final round and still lose. It has since become a DiscreditedMeme though, as Raven eventually not only won, but got all of her events into the game.
** Titania (as of writing this), has had it even worse, as not only does she lose the polls all the time, but she has yet to even get a single event onto the game.

* HilariousInHindsight: David di Kabegis's Semblance is eerily similar to Jaune's own Semblance.

* HarsherInHindsight: Invoked. After the rescue mission to save [[spoiler:Evelyn and the others]], you speak with Arslan and Reese and Reese mentions what a softie Professor Lionheart is. Given that this update was released well after Volume 5, the author would have know that Leo is the one who got Cinder and company into the festival and let Tyrian kill all of Mistral's huntsmen.

** Also inverted for several other characters as well, including (but not limited to) Penny's teammate Ciel Soleil, all of Team NDGO (Nebula Violette, Dew Gayl, Gwen Darcy, and Octavia Ember), Arslan Altan and Reese Chloris of Team ABRN, and May Zedong of Team BRNZ. Not only are some of them almost NamedByAdaptation (these are their canon names, but most of their names are never mentioned in the series) and talk more than they ever did in the series, but they are given personality's, backstories, and some are even involved in key story events.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Inverted. In fact the entire point of the game is to invert this. A key part of this game is built on the fact that the author felt that WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} proper did this to Penny, so in this universe not only does she get her own team and a love interest, but she is one of the main characters of the story. InvertedTrope indeed.
