* HilariousInHindsight: Max in the episode is shocked to see that Anthony's Pelipper is able to use a Grass move type such as Vine Whip, arguing it's impossible for Pelipper to learn a move of that type. Lo and behold, starting from ''Pokemon Platinum'', Pelipper is able to learn Seed Bomb, albeit from Move Tutor and Technical Machine rather than naturally.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The trainers Team Rocket scammed. While Team Rocket are up to no good as usual, they were at least honest about the consequences should the trainers lose. They made it clear that trainers who want to accept their challenge will give up their Pokemon if they lose. It makes the losing trainers look like they only see their Pokemon as a prize to gamble.
