** Several jokes are made about the Death Star having a built-in SelfDestructButton. ''Film/RogueOne'' would later provide a canon explanation for the weakness that made the special's wisecracks come off as darker than intended: [[spoiler:the weakness was deliberately installed by the main engineer (who the Empire enslaved to create the Death Star in the first place) in the hopes of it being destroyed before it could be used, and [[EverybodysDeadDave every single member of the titular crew died to get the schematics for the Rebel Alliance in order to have that flaw exploited]].]]

** In general, the central plot of this episode is about a [[MookFaceTurn defecting Stormtrooper]] and showing how the Death Star plans were stolen, foreshadowing ''Film/TheForceAwakens'' and ''Film/RogueOne'', the first two ''Star Wars'' movies created under Disney. Baljeet also mentions having joined the Empire by accident, which is strangely similar to how we see [[Film/{{Solo}} Han Solo's new backstory in how he became an Imperial pilot.]]

* FashionVictimVillain: Downplayed, but Darth Ferb's choice of makeup and hairstyle (meant to make him look like Darth Maul) just seems...''weird'' on him.

* TakeThatScrappy: When two Rebel Soldiers find R2-D2 without the disc containing the plans for the Death Star, one of them suggests they "blame Jar-Jar". Downplayed when the other Rebel soldier points out that it's not gonna work because Jar Jar retired "years ago".

** None of this is canon, right? Now, neither are most [[Franchise/StarWarsLegends previous expansion works]] before ''Film/TheForceAwakens'' was announced....
