** For stealth bonuses, people rush Diamond Store on Normal as it provides 30% for just a single day job. And since the door to the camera room outside always spawns, the mission is much easier.

** Bain is far less likeable in this game since he's TakenALevelInJerkass (he never apologizes to the team if they fail, for one thing), is the creator of [[ScrappyMechanic Crime.Net]], he never shuts up, and his cleaner costs for killing civilians (which in stealth operations will almost certainly be necessary) is much higher. Many players fantasize killing him at the end of the game's life cycle.
* ScrappyMechanic: The revamped EXP points system. Heists that you haven't played in a while will get a boosted amount of EXP you can earn (up to 50%) while heists you keep playing over and over has your EXP gains reduced (up to 100% possibly). This makes leveling up harder to achieve since EXP boosters apply to individual difficulties as well, so it can be quite insulting to see a 50% booster being applied to a heist that has a low EXP rate and is on Normal difficulty.

Added DiffLines:

** If playing The Big Bank, you can expect about 2/3 games to be stealth despite the fact that, while going loud is difficult, the heist is significantly harder still when sneaking (i.e. very easy to get caught, which means a full do-over). Of course, as the heist obviously becomes even harder with difficulty levels, the temptation of sneaking it means ''every'' public match above Very Hard ''will'' be stealth.

*** Day 1 is easily the hardest day of the three as, upon finding the client's crystal meth cooks are dead, the group has to make meth whilst fighting off cops. Did someone use the wrong ingredient or do anything in the wrong order? ''The meth lab explodes, setting the entire second floor aflame and incapping anyone caught by surprise.'' It doesn't help that Bain can either be confusing with what to put in by fumbling between ingredients or combining names, or he'll tell you the wrong ingredient completely on the first time he's saying which ingredient to put in. The best way around this is either to wait for Bain to say the ingredient again (which 9 times out of 10 he'll be very specific) or if you have another player, you both agree he said the same ingredient.
*** Day 2 is not much better. If you have no meth, then the gangsters will open fire and try to burn their intel before you can reach it. Added more accurate and up to date information about common Ghost skills (mandatory for most dedicated ghosts), the Train Heist, and Hot Lava 2.0, which is only actually \"luck based\" because it can be hard to see if the guards below the propper route will spot you when you jump from platform to platform, and it must be done without raising the Alarm. Fan Dumb & Hate Dumb are now part of Flame Bait. Only in-universe examples are allowed.

* FanDumb:
** The beta access. The developers randomly picked players from the PAYDAY: The Secret group (around 40 people) to give them access to the beta early as the focus test group where they played the game to stress test connections to other players and possible syncing issues. Everyone else outside of the group loudly complained that they shouldn't have to wait so long to play the beta (reserved for people who pre ordered the more expensive version of the game), fearing that they won't have a lot of time to play the beta if it comes too close to the release of the final version. Other people from the Secret group complained that they weren't picked to play the game early. Most of the people complaining about the beta fail to realize that not everything will be open to play in the beta and that playing a beta version of the game is supposed to be for testing and not actually playing normally. Despite the developers saying they can't give a release date on the beta until everything is good to go, people still demanded a date for the beta.
*** Got to the point where people started to demand refunds for their pre-order purchase, which means [[WhatAnIdiot people are giving up a ton of pre-order bonuses just because they can't play the beta sooner.]] Even after one of the developers spoke up and explained why Overkill can't release the beta right away, the fan dumb ''still'' demanded for the beta to be released immediately and a few others accused the developer of lying.
*** Even after the beta was released, people were still not satisfied. Despite Overkill clearly stating several times that some updates to the beta will cause progressions to be erased and the final version of the game doing the same thing, people still complain about losing their progress without stopping to think that changes to the skills and weapons systems in terms of unlocking could cause ''more'' bugs if they are loaded from a save file pre patch.
** There also groups of people making petitions to get the old voice actor of Hoxton, Pete Gold, back for his role in ''PAYDAY 2'' just because [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks they hate the new character that is Hoxton]]. [[https://twitter.com/SimonViklund/status/364325602666360832 A developer commented that the costs to get the old voice actor back would be expensive and passed onto the consumer]], but the complainers think it's just an excuse. Some people even went as far as bugging Pete Gold about how much it would cost to recast him for the role of Hoxton, which made an Overkill developer unhappy to see people potentially harassing someone.
** The release of ''PAYDAY 2'' came under a ''massive'' firestorm of whining and complaining due to several issues the game was released with, such as the game crashing frequently for people or certain mission assets not working properly. Some of the problems were fixed right away while the rest needed time to iron out. People declared Overkill to be lazy and greedy while an Overkill developer fired back by basically saying "We're working on the issues, so please stop acting like jerks to me and everyone else around you."
*** The fans also attacked the developers themselves when they spoke up and said that the game was complete and nothing was cut out other than a special enemy unit (it was buggy), accusing the developers of lying and using false advertising.
*** There's also a slew of constant topics in the forums that are complaining about ''something'' in the game, whether it's something they want nerfed, something they want buffed, demanding more levels, wanting kicking removed, or anything else. It's hard to find topics that just talk about the game and not complain about something. Naturally, if you try to point this out, you get attacked yourself.
** Patch 11 caused a ton of bugs, namely all armor having no defense value and certain enemies having ''triple'' damage. The same patch was also supposed to increase the difficulty of [[HarderThanHard Overkill]]. People complained about the bugs that made the game harder all around, but some people took the bugs as a feature, liking them, and told everyone else to stop sucking at the game.
** A shining example of the fan base's selfishness came to light after Overkill donated $11,000 to someone's charity. The someone in question was Pewdiepie, who apparently is "liked" on YouTube as much as JustinBieber (not very much). Fans who saw the announcement trashed Overkill for donating to Pewdiepie's charity, saying he doesn't deserve it, and others even said that Overkill should have used the money to further ''PAYDAY 2''.
** On the anniversary of ''VideoGame/PAYDAYTheHeist'' (2 years old by 2013), Overkill launched a gambling feature in ''PAYDAY 2'' for a limited time where player can spend their off shore money to gamble on specific loot drop categories. The result was many fans (who had absolutely no idea on how gambling works) crying that the system was broken because they couldn't get specific items while other fans trashed the developers for "adding so little" to the game.
** ''PAYDAY 2'' also has a few items in the game that can only be used as long as you're a part of the official ''PAYDAY 2'' Steam group. Joining the group only takes a few seconds to do and there's the few announcements that pop up once a week. Naturally, the fan dumb complained about being "forced" to join a group for exclusive items and called the method behind it as lazy.
** When Overkill showed a preview snapshot of a new heist they were going to release in December in ''PAYDAY 2'', the fans quickly noticed that the map was the same level from Valve's ''Counter Strike Global Offensive'' and loudly complained that Overkill was being lazy (despite the fact that Valve worked on the map with Overkill). Some fans even went on to say that they would rage at Overkill if the map was paid DLC. Once the trailer for the map was launched, Overkill launched a TakeThat in the form of a newsfeed in the trailer that basically said "Game company releases free content, internet outraged."
** The release of light machine guns in a DLC had one of them be the Brenner, which was also used in the first game. Cue fans moaning how the Brenner should be free because it was in the first game.
** The weapon pack [=DLCs=] cause many jaded fans to denounce Overkill as lazy and greedy sellouts that would rather make quick cash ins instead of working on new maps, despite the fact that Overkill has released a new map almost after every weapon pack DLC and for free to boot.
** 7 day heists was an idea Overkill toyed around with for PAYDAY 2 and it can still be seen on the loadout interface to this day. However, Overkill put the idea of heists going beyond 3 days on the backburner due to a mountain of problems a super long heist could cause (connection issues, rewards balance issues, players trolling by kicking people out at the final day, having to create 7 maps that may or may not reuse assets, etc). The fan base believes that because there's 7 days on the loadout interface, Overkill should "keep its promise" and release a 7 day heist.
*** On a similar note, safe house customization was discussed before the launch of the game, but it was also put in the back burner as a low priority while Overkill focused more on new content like more maps. Fans demand that Overkill should step up and give them the ability to customize their safe house, even though you can't invite people to see it and it would offer little value to the game overall.
** The Big Bank DLC were met with complaints due to its price and supposed lack of content. This is coming from the same people who kept complaining that there were no new maps to play on and how they would be willing to pay for a new map just so they can have something different or better to play on.
** Paid DLC in general. Any new content that has to be paid for will always be met with complaints, despite the fact that Overkill already said plenty of times that not every new piece of content will be free. Weapon packs? Should have been in the game to begin with. New maps? Not worth the money. If there's any actual free content involved, [[ComplainingAboutThingsYouHaventPaidFor people will whine about that as well]].
** The entire fandom can be categorized in a few sections: Chicken Littles keep fearing that any change to the game will be RuinedForever. Little Bearers absolutely hate the fans and fear the developers listen to them too much. Loyalist Complainers will ''chronically'' whine about anything added or changed to the game and will trash anyone who dares to actually like the game without admitting any faults. Mainstream Militants will go apeshit if the game goes on sale because they don't want to deal with people who didn't play the game from day 1. Old Timers will constantly complain how the game should cater to them because they been with the game since the beginning. Unpleasable Fan speaks for itself.

** The Sniper Pack update added ziplines to Payday, and they came in two forms: A zipline for the heisters to use and a bag zipline, the first of which appeared on Framing Frame day 3. This resulted in players being permitted to secure gold bags if the heist goes loud after opening the vault. However, if the heist goes loud and THEN a bag of gold is secured, the heist mission logic gets messed up and permits you to constantly begin the hacking sequence even if the power boxes were hit by the cops and haven't been reset (which is normally required). The only downside is that Bain WILL NOT SHUT UP.

*** Day 3 requires stealing intel from a senator or (should you fail the stealth) uploading incriminating data to his computer. However, the biggest pain arises from the senator's gold vault; should the team ever be discovered, even if they've already secured one or more bags of gold, the rest must be abandoned and the stealth approach must be dropped. Naturally, these can mean a misstep of one person can leave the team without the achievement/trophy and with only a fraction of what they could have stolen.

A recent patch finally addressed this by allowing you to keep zip-lining bags of gold if you make it that far, but then the mission logic glitches...

* AbridgedArenaArray: Ukrainian Job and Nightclub since both levels are extremely short when done right, thus players can quickly farm cards at the end of a game to get weapon and mask mods quickly. Four Stores is also another popular choice for card farming if someone has a saw since they can hack open ATM machines to quickly get the money and go past the required $15,000 for the objectives. Patches were made to introduce Titan safes in Ukrainian Job (can't be blown up with C4 or have their locks picked) and more rooms were added in Nightclub where two safes can spawn in random locations and they can either hold money (needed to finish the level) or coke (extra loot).
** Around the time that the patch was released, players began to grind the Rats heist by blowing up the lab in day 1 so they didn't have to cook meth, blow up the safe in day 2 to reach the intel in the safe without having to do the meth trade, and then ignoring the money on the bus in day 3. Rats gave the most experience points and since it was so easy to speed run it, 99% of Rats games were for grinding EXP. The Death Wish update countered the grinding by introducing a new EXP system where playing the same heists over and over again reduces EXP gained while playing different heists can create EXP bonuses. Rats was also changed to have the van not be in the level at all until you blow up the lab or cook 3 bags of meth and the driver still needs a few minutes to arrive in either scenario. If the lab explodes on the Death Wish difficulty, ''the entire map is set on fire'', which downs everyone instantly. The Death Wish update also removed the [=ATMs=] in Four Stores to prevent grinding, but only on the Death Wish difficulty.
* BaseBreaker: Crime.net, the system used to find heists in ''PAYDAY 2'' broke the community in half; people against the idea hate the fact that they can't simply choose what heist and difficulty they want to play on while others say the system helps cut down people farming the same levels over and over again. Random drops at the end of a payday was also met with disdain from people that believe they should be able to earn/buy any mod they want without having to rely on luck while others say the system is fine and prevents min maxing.
* BrokenBase: ''PAYDAY 2'' broke many parts of the fan base with two things: New voice acting for the robbers were either met with disdain since fans preferred the old voices or was seen as a refreshing change. In-game currency costs to buy skills, weapons, mods, and masks also divided the fan base to the point where no one can agree whether or not the current pricing model is good.
** C4/Shaped Charges are also dividing people; no one can decide if the item makes heists too easy and fast (some doors and safes can be blown up, bypassing the need to lockpick or drill) or if the bombs are fine the way they are.
** Revamped difficulty from patch 11 broke the remains of the fan base into even smaller fragments. People are either against the new changes, claiming that it makes the game artificially difficult, or they are for the changes and claim that anyone who complains sucks at the game.
** The difficulty in general. There has been patches that have buffed damage and behavior for enemies (or glitches that made enemies harder), to which the fan base either welcomes the harder challenge or complain that the game is now too hard. Cue flame wars between both camps if they meet.
*** TurnedUpToEleven with the Death Wish update, which included a HarderThanHard difficulty level that includes cameras that can't be destroyed, extra guards in certain heists that can spawn more guards if you kill them in stealth, capped body bags down to a count of 2, and guards can't be converted during stealth, which also means you can't dominate another guard (the stealth changes were also applied to all difficulty levels except for the cameras). Death Wish also introduced harder hitting and deadly accurate SWAT teams and a Bulldozer wielding a light machine gun, both groups capable of tearing players to shreds regardless of their armor. The fan base broke themselves between people who loathe the difficulty bump and those who like it.
** The Gage Weapon Pack #1 DLC caused a ''massive'' shitstorm among everyone. There were massive complaints over the fact that the DLC contain no new heists and how Overkill was robbing everyone by charging $5 for grenades (the DLC also includes more guns, masks, and mask materials). Others say the price is just right.
*** Repeated again for the Gage Weapon Pack #2 DLC; people who hate the DLC say it's a $5 rip off for crappy light machine guns, despite the fact that the DLC also comes with knives, new masks and mask materials.
** The removal of crosshairs also sparked division among the fan base where people either want it back (or have it as an option) or others saying the game is more realistic and people need to learn to use iron sight aiming more.
** The community itself. With the Payday 2 player base split between so many views, and the devs themselves, often you'll find a situation escalate quickly into spite and unkind language. The problem is further compounded with Overkill's track record of sly shots at the angrier factions, which only serves to escalate the problem further, especially when said complaints are about viable problems within the game. If you visit the forums, tread LIGHTLY.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The sequel manages to up the first game. Unlike the first game, the music isn't fixed to a given level, and when the game is moving towards assault phase, the music starts ramping up accordingly instead of Bain telling you how much time you have left.
* DemonicSpiders: All the special SWAT units:
** [[ColdSniper Snipers]]: Tend to stay far away as usual, but can tear through your armor levels in a single shot. On a rooftop surrounded by them, you won't last long.
** Cloakers: Blends in with the rest of the SWAT team, save for his [[HighlyVisibleNinja glowing green optics]] at a distance. Average firepower, but can [[LeParkour run off the walls]] to reach you and can also [[OneHitKill instantly knock you down regardless of how much health and armor you have left]]. A single Cloaker can wipe out an entire team. They're even worse in the second game; they don't have their optics on unless they're going for a takedown, making it even harder to pick them out among the rest of the SWAT until they're close enough that they decide to feed you your teeth.
** Tasers: Bulky armored SWAT units with bright yellow stripes on its shoulder pads. Can paralyze you with its taser which also [[InterfaceScrew shakes the screen]] and forces you to fire your weapon, making you waste ammo. The Taser doesn't stop tasing you until you go down or one of your partners kills him (or you get lucky with your uncontrolled fire).
** Bulldozers: Heavily armored SWAT unit that has a powerful shotgun which can down you in two hits in close range. Only its face is the weak spot and despite its big size, it can run pretty fast when it needs to. They may also appear in pairs, threes, or even fours on higher difficulty levels.
*** "Saiga 'Dozers", or Bulldozers that have black armor and semi-automatic shotguns. They also can shrug off a C4 charge, which is normally the only way to reliably one shot a Bulldozer.
*** Overkill, in their time-honored tradition of making things even harder, added another Bulldozer with a skull decal on their facemask in the new Death Wish difficulty. In addition to being even more heavily armored, they also come packing a light machine gun, making them dangerous at long range as well.
** Shields: An upper level SWAT unit with a shield that can withstand everything short of an explosion or a high level Enforcer's melee attack (assuming he took the skill). What's particularly annoying is that if they are fixated on you, they will always point their shield towards you, necessitating another player to flank it. If you're playing with only AI, you're in for a pretty bad situation. It doesn't help that the police can shoot through it while you can't shoot back.
** The tan FBI units, which operate in a similar manner to the Heavy SWAT from the last game. Unlike the heavies, the tans are completely ''immune'' to shots made against the torso and, due to the [[HitboxDissonance wonky hitbox system]], are also immune to being shot in the legs. The only way to kill a tan FBI unit is through [[BoomHeadshot headshots]] or [[InTheBack shooting them in the back]], but good luck doing either action if the tan units come in groups or are paired up with special SWAT.
** Patch 13 introduced street cops wielding the [[HandCannon Bronco .44]]. The Bronco cops can instantly destroy your armor in one shot no matter what type of armor you wear and can instantly down you on the second shot if your armor hasn't regenerated yet. Yes, you have normal cops that are more dangerous than the Bulldozer.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Old/British Hoxton from the original ''PAYDAY'', who had some popularity in his debut. Once ''PAYDAY 2'' was made and revealed that the Hoxton character was now a new American character, fans cried foul and immediately created a petition to reinstate the old Hoxton character. Overkill eventually responded by releasing a Christmas soundtrack that has British Hoxton singing the lyrics (while also noting about the petition made for him) and also hints that he may return if he [[spoiler: can break out of prison]]. The soundtrack won British Hoxton fans over quickly.
* FanDumb:
* GameplayDerailment: The Rats heist where, on the first day, you are supposed to brew meth in order to trade it for intel on day 2 plus extra money if you bring more. If you botch the cooking, the lab explodes. After Overkill tweaked the game to have mutl-day heists give more experience points, people botched the meth cooking on purpose in order to speed run the Rats heist and get a lot of experience points in a short amount of time.
** Somewhat fixed in the Death Wish update where the van only arrives several minutes after you blow up the lab or cook up 3 bags of meth, though people still opt to blow up the lab anyway. Completely averted for playing Rats on Death Wish since blowing up the lab has ''the entire map'' engulfed in flames, making the heist an instant failure.
* GoodBadBugs:
** One glitch involving reviving downed players lets you pick up a friend ''through a wall'' if they are close enough to you. The developers decided to [[ThrowItIn keep it for the sequel]].
*** Sadly patched out after people complained it made the game too easy, due to the logic for figuring out if you can revive someone being the exact same logic allowing you to grab bags through walls.
** The beta had a pro job (rare heists) sometimes popping up in the contract list, though the game would crash if the player tried to access it. This was due to a glitch where the pro job wasn't supposed to appear during the beta.
*** The beta also had objective triggers in certain heists appearing when they weren't supposed to, such as a safe appearing inside a wall in Jewelry Store and burning money with cameras in Bank Heist. WildMassGuessing ensued and many people speculated that they found secrets in the game, but they were quickly {{Jossed}} after WordOfGod stated that the events were supposed to be objective triggers for different heists in the same map and they glitched out.
** Not sure if this was fixed, but sometimes when a shield unit is downed, the shield can take bullets fired from anyone, making it nice cover if it landed a certain way
** One can spend as much spendable money as possible on spare weapons before upgrading to Infamy statous (as well as giving up every skill for even more spendable money), and then after upgrading, sell said weapons. An easy way to not be broke upon becoming infamous.
* HilariousInHindsight: People hated the original incarnation of Crime.net where they couldn't choose what level they wanted to play. The system eventually got updated where players could buy levels if they really wanted to play them, which caused people to farm the Rats heist to easily gain experience points and level up quickly. The result of all the farming caused other people to demand that something should be done about the heist to prevent farming. The hilarity comes from the original Crime.net system being created to counter farming in the first place.
* HypeBacklash: The beta caused this for a lot of people. Many fans were hyping the game to be as good as the first game or even better, but when the beta was finally released, many people trashed the game for being full of bugs (not realizing that a beta is not a full polished version of the game) and being severely lacking in content. The final version of the game on release day didn't quell the backlash either; many people that were disappointed with the game usually cite how features that were promised to be in the game were not in the game, even though the majority of said promises were not actually made and came from people hyping the game based on what little information there was at the time.
* HypocriticalFandom: Fans are also complaining about how ''PAYDAY 2'' feels too much like a grind fest with all the money and EXP they need to get everything, yet they want challenges that the first game had, which was mostly grinding as well since most of the challenges were "Kill X amount of cops with weapon Y".
* ItsEasySoItSucks: Everyone complained about the overall difficulty in ''PAYDAY 2'' being lowered after people originally complained that the game was too difficult. While the game isn't brutally difficult as the first game was, it's nowhere near a cakewalk unless your whole team is very skilled.
* ItsPopularSoItSucks: ''PAYDAY 2'' was a massive success, which caused many veteran players of the first game to declare the sequel horrible after believing the success brought in clueless newbies who had no idea how the game is supposed to be played.
* MostAnnoyingSound: Some of Bain's mission control dialogues, as well as the mission complete speeches, are horrendously repetitive.
* NightmareFuel: Cloakers in Payday 2 have a habit at sneaking up on you and leaping at you [[HellIsThatNoise while a very loud electronic screech plays]]. [[JumpScare This will certainly catch you off guard if you are not paying attention]].
* PlayerPreferredPattern: In the 3rd day of Framing Frames, nearly everyone insists on stealthing the level so they can grab the gold and escape with little resistance. If the stealth fails, expect people to either suicide for a restart or just RageQuit since no one wants to stick around for the harder hacking objective while being swarmed by cops.
* PortingDisaster: The Xbox and Playstation ports. Besides a few major, free updates, the console versions are seriously trailing behind in a way that parallels the ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'' console fiasco.[[note]]After a couple of hundred PC updates, the most recent TF2 console update was for the Xbox 360 in '''2009'''.[[/notes]]
** Made worse by the reasoning too: Xbox 360 users were told it was an issue of Microsoft's ExecutiveMeddling seen with TF2's frequent-yet-sizeable updates; Playstation 3 users were told they would be up to date come early 2014, which turned into [[ShrugOfGod "when it's ready."]]
* ReplacementScrappy: The entire crew, except for Wolf, were replaced by new characters using the same names and backgrounds as the previous characters in the first game. Fans ''loathed'' the replacement characters, though the original Dallas was able to return for his role. Hoxton gotten the worst of it all as he is hated by fans for not being British like the previous Hoxton nor having the same wit and charm. Averted for the new Chains where most fans like him over the original Chains.
** Also invoked by British Hoxton himself in the Christmas soundtrack for ''PAYDAY 2'' where he is upset that another person has replaced him by stealing his name and mask.
** The same system also includes a "custody penalty" that kicks in if you finish a heist in custody, where you lose 90% of the EXP you could have earned. This is extremely punishing on heists that can give a lot of EXP. Naturally, the mechanic is heavily disliked.
** Stealth bonus EXP, where you get an EXP booster to use on your next job if you complete a day/heist in stealth. Many people tend to quit or suicide to restart just to get the bonus.
* ThatOneAchievement: Escpecially so as several are LuckBasedMission ones, that depend on what the RNG feels like doing.
** Short Fuse: Part of Rats, on Day 3, you need to get out with 7 bags without defusing bombs (two or so suitcases of money won't have a bomb). You may get lucky with an extra money and coke bag that spawn near the escape copter.
** Big Deal: Part of Framing Frame, you need 9 paintings from Day 1 (which randomly gives you 5-9).
** Guessing Game: Part of Firestarter, on Day 2, you need to cut two wires without knowing if they'll set off the alarm or not.
** Cappuccino To Go: Part of the Cafe Escape, you need to get out with all loot bags within 30 seconds of the van arriving, and there's three spots where it'll arrive that are nowhere near each other. The achievement is much easier if you figure out A) exactly when the 30 second timer starts, B) The escape follows the Ukrainian Job and you only stole the Tiara, hence no loot bags and C) where to stand to be able to see two of the three potential van locations, but considering most people wear heavy armour in all escapes (slowing them down), there's still the matter of reaching the van in time.
** Armored Transport, ''Payday 2'''s first substantial DLC, adds a few more to the list:
*** "But Wait - There's More!" is unlocked by being in an Armored Transport heist when someone picks up the address loot that unlocks the Bonus Train Heist. This alone has, [[WordOfGod according to Goldfarb]], a 20% chance of occurring per heist (in practice, expect it 1% of the time).
*** "We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat" requires you to secure 40 bags of shells (which explode if thrown too far or if it gets damaged) in Train Heist. Yes, the same Train Heist that is unlocked by doing the entirely luck-based achievement "But Wait - There's More!", so you can't even go for it without hitting every transport that comes your way hoping for the address to drop. It also doesn't help that sometimes, the physics glitch out and send one bag in a vertical trajectory upwards, only to land back on the pile of 39 other bags you have...
*** "If you Liked it you Should Have Put a Ring on It" is obtained by hitting any Armored Transport heist carrying gold and securing 9 bags of it. Each convoy can have up to 4 trucks, and each convoy also carries only one type of bag loot (jewelry, cash, or gold). Additionally, each heist only carries a MINIMUM amount of bags that will spawn, it is perfectly possible to get a gold convoy that only has 6 bags. Compounding this is that if you use shaped charges, you remove two safety boxes on each truck you use them on, reducing your chances further. Ouch.
** Doctor Miserable for Big Oil day 2, which you are tasked with sending every single wrong engine to Bain, laving the last one as the correct engine. Not only do you crawl at a snail's pace when moving engine parts, but the cops are brutal on the map and it's possible to run out of ammo trying to last through massive amounts of assault waves.
** Hot Lava 2.0 is quite difficult for the first day in Election Day. You have to reach and use the computer without ever touching the ground, which means you'll have to use boxes and freight containers as platforms to jump to and it's quite easy to angle your jumps wrong or to time your jumps wrong and fall down.
*** The Murphy's Law achievement in the same heist is just as bad due to it being purely luck based. First, you have to tag the wrong truck (easy enough) to get the bank heist distraction job for day 2. You then have to break into the vault and hope there's no money inside to steal, which is how the achievement is done.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: The AI and other characters can smoke a cigarette before the heist starts. Gangsters in day 2 of "Rats" can be seen smoking cigarettes ''through their face rags'', which is mostly due to all characters sharing the same smoking animation.
* TaintedByThePreview: The beta caused a lot of people to write off the game as horribly broken, buggy, and lacking in content, even though that [[FanDumb the fan base already knew ahead of time that the beta was not going to have everything and that the game would have bugs.]]
* ThatOneLevel: Several of them:
** Big Oil:
*** If you refuse to play on single-player, you ''will'' need either totally cooperative strangers or friends. Playing with neither of these will screw up the entire heist before it's started. Additionally, the heist depends on getting the right intel and identifying which of the several machines is the only correct one.
*** Day 1 requires you to steal intel from a gang. Getting caught before gathering it all means the gang will try to burn it, and since it tends to be on three/four separate floors, you need to be stealthy or carefully plan an assault. Failure turns Day 2 into a guessing game.
*** On Day 2, figuring out the right machine requires remembering intel and checking info on boards around the basement to figure it out. If you're playing with the wrong people, expect someone to assume it's a standard heist ''and begin urgently bagging up all the machines indiscriminately.'' In other words, they begin piling them into unmarked bags (i.e. making the machines impossible to tell apart) and try to charge to the chopper; since it can take around five minutes to summon the chopper and have the machines checked one at a time for authenticity, expect to die or run out of ammo before you find the right one.
**** It is not as bad as it sounds if you know where to look. To figure out the right engine, you only need three infos (gas, amount of nozzles and pressure) and all three can be found via notes spread on Day 2. Looking for said notes might even be easier than the intel, which can actually contain ''wrong infos'' at times.
** Framing Frame:
*** Day 3 requires stealing intel from a senator or (should you fail the stealth) uploading incriminating data to his computer. However, the biggest pain arises from the senator's gold vault; should the team ever be discovered, even if they've already secured one or more bags of gold, the rest must be abandoned and the stealth approach must be dropped. Naturally, these can mean a misstep of one person can leave the team without the achievement/trophy and with only a fraction of what they could have stolen.
** Rats is probably the biggest pain of them all:
*** Firstly, the mission comes with escape sub-missions. If you fail any objectives in the first two days (i.e. fail to cook any meth on Day 1 or start a shoot out on Day 2) then an additional escape stage has to be played.
If you don't have ''enough'' meth, if a player does one of several things (such as try to take the meth back or point a gun around), [[LuckBasedMission if the gangsters just decide to screw you over, or if the cops get wind of the deal,]] then they may or may not open fire because you've cheated them on a deal, forcing you to fight through them anyway.
*** Day 3 requires killing a bunch of gangsters and stealing their loot. However, should you fail to diffuse the bombs, then any bags you failed to save will be destroyed, significantly reducing your PAYDAY prize.
** Armored Transport. All of the variations of the heist has cops swarming in from every which way and they all spawn close to you, meaning you will be under fire a ''lot''. Downtown and Park is even worse due to cover being almost non existent. All the maps for Armored Transport require you to move bags of jewelry, money or gold across a good distance, so have fun being shot at while trying to move bags.
** Election Day is a massive pain in the ass if the job goes loud. On day 1, if you didn't tag a truck before being spotted, you're forced to hack a computer containing the shipping info and you have to do it ''twice'' at four and a half minutes both times if you want to have a 100% chance of doing day 2 at the warehouse where the ballot machines are stored. The entire map has very little cover and the warehouses themselves are filled with a lot open skylights for the SWAT units to rappel down from. During the hacking process, if the cops shut the power off, you're forced to go outside to restore it via circuit breaker, forcing yourself to be exposed to snipers.
** Day 2, should you be successful in tagging the right truck from day 1 (or fully hacked the computer), is even worse with cover when the heist goes loud. The entire warehouse is full of windows, skylights, and balconies for cops to hit you from every possible angle and snipers always spawn near the escape van on the adjacent rooftops, which is several yards away from the main warehouse; good luck hitting the snipers from an extreme distance while the snipers themselves have pinpoint accuracy against you. If you play the level on Death Wish, you're also forced to find a crowbar to pop open the shipping crates and said crowbar is in a random location.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** The web series teaser trailer for Payday 2 also generated complaints of Hoxton not looking or sounding like he does in the actual game. Similar complaints were made for the rest of the crew.
*** More complaining ensued when it was confirmed that [[https://twitter.com/locust9/status/347669714346057730 most of the characters from the first game will have new voice actors based on the web series]], [[ReplacementScrappy something that the community heavily disliked]] already. One of the developers couldn't go into detail on why they had to use a new set of voice actors other than "it's a long story". It was also confirmed that, except for Wolf and Bain (still using original voice actors), Dallas, Hoxton, and Chains are new characters using old aliases. While the fan base has warmed up to the new Dallas and Chains a little bit, everyone ''hates'' Hoxton having an American accent instead of his British accent now.
*** Dallas now has his old voice-actor again. However, he still has the model of the new version.
** Nerfing the Cable Guy skill, which gives players 5 cable ties (5 hostages essentially) instead of the original 10 cable ties used during the beta. People then complained that stealthing was pointless without a mass amount of ties to use. Overkill listened and buffed the skill to include 6 ties instead.
** Patch 11 for ''PAYDAY 2'' increased the aggression for the cops and made the Bulldozer more durable, causing massive complaints from people saying the game is too hard. This is after the FanDumb complained that the game was too easy...after complaining the game was too hard at the start of beta.
*** Patch 12 fixed what made patch 11 broken (too many Bulldozer spawns, blue SWAT and gangsters doing more damage than normal, etc). The result was people who liked the broken difficulty complaining that the game is now easy again thanks to the "casuals" complaining.
*** Similarly, a hotfix for patch 13 dialed back the amount of Shield units that spawned since they were spawning in groups of 6 or more at a time. Players complained about the fix, saying Overkill took away the only challenge the game had.
** The Death Wish update changed how experience points are gained; instead of all heists giving a flat rate of EXP, you now gain less and less EXP if you play the same heist repeatedly. If you play a new heist after finishing the previous heist, including one with a contract boost, you gain extra EXP for playing a different heist. Naturally, everyone complained that they could no longer grind Rats for quick and easy EXP.
*** The same update also changed stealth mechanics by adding cameras that can't be destroyed and adding extra guards in certain heists, making complete stealth almost impossible to do. Many people hated the change not just because it changed stealth, but said changes applied to all difficulty levels. Bagging dead bodies was also changed to be capped at 2 bodies per player, making stealth even more difficult for many. Overkill responded by saying it wasn't necessary to bag every body, but plenty people have objected strongly.
*** Rats on Death Wish also got a big change regarding the cooking; not only do you have to wait for the van to show up before you can move the meth, but if you blow up the lab, the explosion covers ''the entire map'', effectively killing everyone. While the idea was made to stop people from speed running Rats for easy EXP grinding, many people hated the change because of it.
*** Patch 25 changed Smooth Talker into Spotter, which, when Aced, allows the user to buy the Spotter asset so they can have an NPC spot guards for them. The Smooth Talker skill itself became a passive skill for everyone, but dominating a guard during stealth still sets off his pager, which must be answered. People were not happy with the change to Smooth Talker.
** After stealth bonuses were introduced, Overkill quickly removed the stealth bonus and the body bag asset to day 1 of Firestarter, insisting that the level is not supposed to be stealthed. [[note]]Being able to move several heavy bags of weapons to the van without resistance puts the method into near GameBreaker territory.[[/note] People that were able to stealth the heist in the past were visibly upset by the changes.
** Previews of the sequel had generated complaints of the HUD looking ugly compared to the one in the first game. When it was announced that the sequel would also completely omit ally AI in order to focus on the co-op experience, many people hated the idea of being forced to play with others and that single player mode will become a OneManArmy trope. The complaints quickly died down once Overkill addressed the complaints and changed things to settle the complaining.
