"What an Idiot!" is now Flame Bait.

* WhatAnIdiot: Really, Tasuku? When Misora is groped and nearly has a breakdown over it, the first thing you say to them is that they somehow brought it on themselves because he looks cute when dressed like a girl? No wonder Misora completely went off on him. As a result of Tasuku's poor choice of words, Misora doesn't visit the lounge anymore and completely shuts themselves up in their house, disappearing for two whole volumes until the very end.

Western society does the same, see Gender-Nonconforming Equals Gay.

* ValuesDissonance: In Japan, sexuality and gender presentation are often heavily conflated, hence why Tasuku initially believes Misora's way of dressing is a sign of him being gay.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: Almost every chapter will include a lot of visual metaphors that could complement the story. Be it glass shards, UFO or even a jungle of duality.
* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: A big foundation of the entire series.
** In chapter 6 Tasuku initially believes Misora dresses the way they do because they're gay, but Misora points out they never said anything about liking boys. Tasuku then realizes his sexuality has nothing to do with wanting to be a woman, and Misora is the same way.
** In the scene in Chapter 8 where Tasuku is looking up cases similar to Misora, Haruko points out that classifying Misora isn't nearly as important as letting them figure out on their own on what exactly they want. Indeed, Misora doesn't seem to care about whether they are trans or not, instead wanting to learn more about Tasuku and his experiences.

** Anonymous's name in the original Japanese is "Dareka-san" (lit. "somebody"). Hachimitsu Scan's decision to translate this as "Anonymous" preserves [[NoNameGiven her mysterious nature]], while also sounding like a nickname someone would actually use in English.
** [[http://www.akata.fr/actus/annonce-eclats-dame The official French localization]] translates the title into ''Éclat(s) d'âme'', which translates into “Soul Shards" while punning off the phrase ''état d’âme'', or "State of Mind/Soul".
