Cleanup. Fails to explain that/why Twilight was supposed to be sympathetic.

* SelfFanservice: Lighthoof and Shimmy Shake. The fact that they're cheerleaders, have cute and unique designs, are very touchy-feely with each other, and they make numerous exploitable poses, lent them to quickly becoming highly sexualized in the fandom.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: While many agree Rainbow was in the wrong for hating cheerleading, not even bothering to help, [[KickTheDog making Ocellus cry]] and not even caring, plenty of people don't just blame her for this episode's shortcomings but Twilight Sparkle as well due to Twilight knowing ''exactly'' how Dashie would react and basically forcing Rainbow to do something she hates and doesn't understand when she could have taken on the job herself and let Rainbow coach the buckball team.

If it's used as a complaint/more cynical than can realistically exist in the work, Warp That Aesop instead.

* AlternateAesopInterpretation: The moral is presented as "just because you have no interest in a subject doesn't mean you can't support your friends that do", but given that Rainbow Dash was volunteered for her position by Twilight and was guilt tripped by the students into helping them despite her protests, the moral can come off as "give in to peer pressure and do something you don't want to do, because you might find out you like it after all."

** Rainbow Dash stemming from her reluctance to teach cheerleading. There are those who think it works here given how she's more about action and is mainly just aloof. Those against her think that she acted needlessly cruel and callous given that she spent most of her time trying to get out of it without making the slightest attempt to work with teaching the cheerleaders, especially in regards to making Ocellus cry. They also feel her behavior goes against continuity given episodes like "Sonic Rainboom" , "Hurricane Fluttershy", and the ending of "Parental Glideance". Yet others think that she was in the right for her behavior and that everyone else calling her out was being cruel to her.

Single episodes don't count as too short for apathy to set in. And about dark tone not unliablity.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: There's plenty of MLP reviewers and analysts and even artists who think Rainbow Dash ruined what could have been a good episode and had Twilight just did the job herself or gotten Pinkie to do it, then no feelings would have been hurt.

It doesn't help that Twilight knew exactly how she would react and thus comes off as InnocentlyInsensitive for trying to get Rainbow to do something she frankly hates.

** Rainbow Dash '''''really''''' falls into this here , mostly stemming from her reluctance to teach cheerleading. There are those who think it works here given how she's more about action and is mainly just aloof. Those against her think that she acted needlessly cruel and callous, even causing children '''''to cry''''' , and feel her behavior goes against continuity given episodes like "Sonic Rainboom" , "Hurricane Fluttershy", and the ending of "Parental Glideance" .
** Twilight falls into this, mainly from how she forces Rainbow Dash to do an activity she doesn't care for. There are those who think she's being too thoughtless and not thinking about potential consequences. There are also those who think she's pulling a "Celestia Gambit" by playing a more indirect role in helping others out.

* InformedWrongness: Rainbow Dash is chewed out by multiple other characters for shirking her duties to the cheer squad to watch the buckball game. However, as Rainbow herself readily admits, she has no knowledge of cheering, has no interest in learning, and doesn't see the point of cheer squads. Twilight's TricksterMentor act aside, Rainbow makes a very good case for why she should not be put in charge of the squad, so it's hard to blame her when she repeatedly shows no interest and no aptitude in a job Twilight volunteered her for.

* DesignatedHero: Played with. Twilight put Rainbow up to leading the cheer squad as a TricksterMentor bit where she knows Rainbow will learn an important lesson. While she is proven correct, this makes Twilight seem very manipulative and condescending to treat one of her oldest friends like this, and to throw her into the role without any sort of support or advice, even if she's following in Celestia's footsteps .
