** It's long been a point of contention for fans as to why a pegasus as accomplished as Rainbow Dash wasn't made a Wonderbolt some time ago. Here we see it explained that there are only a set number of non-reserve Wonderbolts at any one time. Spitfire had wanted to add Rainbow Dash to the group for quite a while but couldn't until one of the existing members retired.
** Throughout "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E22TestingTesting123 Testing Testing 1, 2, 3]]", the same bit of information about the history of the Wonderbolts is repeated throughout, giving the impression that that was all she had to learn and making some wonder why so much fuss was made over so little info. In this episode we hear more history facts that Rainbow presumably learned in that same episode.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Did Dash's old teacher [[AdultsAreUseless really laugh along with the bullies]] calling her "Rainbow Crash" back in flight school, or, as this is a flashback, is Dash simply misremembering the event in the worst possible light?

* TheWoobie: Rainbow Dash! Thankfully, while she does go through hell in recalling her childhood traumas, the Wonderbolts eventually understand; and to be fair, Dash was being very reckless at points like trying to perform a stunt so that she could be awesome to the Wonderbolts. Even so, many viewers sympathized with Rainbow Dash in this episode. It doesn't help that she tears up multiple times.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Rainbow Dash doing impressions of her five friends.

** The fact that Starlight Glimmer is [[AbsenteeActor mysteriously missing from the episode without any mention or any explanation]] has rattled a couple cages. Some claim she is irrelevant to the plot, but then at the same time, the other group contend that there was nothing stopping her from showing up in the crowd or in the background, and think it's awfully jarring for a character considered by some people to be the SixthRanger to just disappear from existence.

** Since she mysteriously vanished without a trace, where did [[AbsenteeActor Starlight Glimmer]] disappear to? [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS6E6NoSecondPrances The previous episode]] simply provides more fuel to what could have happened.

* WhatAnIdiot: Rainbow Dash gets the name "Rainbow Crash" due to a terrible first impression. However, seeing as "Rainbow Crash" is a bad reminder of her time in flight school, it affects her badly.\\

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: In [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E16SonicRainboom "Sonic Rainboom"]], we learn that Rainbow Dash's old bullies still called her "Rainbow Crash" even as they grew up. With Rainbow accepting that nickname as her Wonderbolt moniker, her bullies have lost their ammunition.

Not only is Starlight ''not'' introduced to the Wonderbolts; she ''doesn't even appear in the episode''. Even more, her voice actress, Kelly Sheridan, voices one of the Wonderbolts, Misty Fly, who ''does'' appear in the episode.

** This episode has also gotten its share of {{Accusation Fic}}s aimed at the Wonderbolts for how they treated Rainbow Dash throughout the episode.

* TheScrappy: The flight camp instructor in Rainbow Dash's childhood flashback. Not only did the instructor allow young Dash to get bullied by {{Jerkass}} foals for her embarrassing mistake to the point of tears, but she actually ''laughs with them.'' Made all the more worse by the fact that she [[KarmaHoudini completely gets away with belittling a child]] she's in charge of.

** A third camp is of the opinion that the hazing the newbie tradition works, but the fact [[PoorCommunicationKills no one bothered to explain (or even try to explain) the tradition to Rainbow]] until the very end (not even Soarin or Spitfire, who Rainbow is personal friends with) when she brings it up made them look more jerkish than they needed to be. Course Rainbow didn't bother to tell any of them how much it bothered her even when one tried to comfort her about her performance, or ask at all about the other's nicknames.
