** The English voice acting in general is... not good, to say the least, leading to many serious scenes losing all impact if you don't switch to the far better Japanese voices.

About fans praising it so highly audiences think it doesn’t measure up, not prerelease expectations.

* HypeBacklash: Mighty No. 9[='=]s inception came around a time when Capcom was burning bridges with Mega Man fans after canceling Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe, with many backing the game's Kickstarter and raised nearly $4 million towards the project, and quickly became one of the site's highest funded video game projects before the likes of Shenmue III and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night beat its record. The game's anticipation was at an all-time high, however, as problems and delays during its development rose, Inafune starting another Kickstarter for a Mega Man Legends spiritual successor (that ultimately failed but was rescued by another company, with whatever money that was raised going towards its stretch goals), and Deep Silver's marketing campaign further alienating the game's audience, many were having doubts about the project at best and expecting it to fail at worst. When the game finally did get released, many criticized the game for its subpar graphics, English dub, and divisive dashing-based mechanics, claiming it failed to meet expectations. Adding fuel to the fire was the game's disastrous launch for some of the game's backers whom received broken or missing keys and the various of technical issues of the game, many critics and players has made a pariah out of Mighty No. 9 and Keiji Inafune, labeling it as one of the worst games of all times and using the game's controversial production as an example of how not to make a game through crowdfunding.

About characters hated by fans, meaning those who unironicly enjoyed the game.

The characters that I removed were all major characters, especially the Call F, which was used as the official design.

*** Apart from the nine Call design voting choices, the Call with the pink hair received much attention from fans alongside the Roll-looking Call, which would later be designated as Design "F" in the voting contest and become Call's official design, who were featured in a concept art in the early days of the Kickstarter campaign and before the voting contest officially started. Part of this attention stems from the fact that she looks very similar to Aero, a character that was supposed to make her debut in VideoGame/MegaManLegends 3.

** Of the Mighty Numbers, there's Mighty No. 7 (Brandish), due to his similarities to Proto Man and Zero, Mighty No. 8 (Countershade), due to his gunslinger motif and cool voice, and Mighty No. 3 (Dynatron), for being a CreepyCute RobotGirl.
** While part of it is due to being Expy much like Zero, RAY is well-liked for being a surprisingly interesting and sympathetic character. Helped by her campaign's mechanics circumventing some of the game's most criticized points (eg. she can dash into enemies and absorb them immediately; Beck has to damage them first), while still offering a challenge. She was one of the most highly requested characters for Mighty Gunvolt Burst, and one of the final DLC characters offered for the game.
