** Does Shaft's signature ''LightNovel/{{Bakemonogatari}}'' style really fit the franchise or not?

** The ninth episode features a [[ArtShift random]] CGI segment at the start of the television version. It was likely due to being rushed and the video release features the normal art-style. Still, the sequence has become memetic due to how [[UncannyValley creepy it looks]].

** The OP of episode 9 is supposed to be cute, but the poorly done CG on the faces sends it straight into the UncannyValley. The redone version for the BD sets, by comparison, is in [=2D=] and does a much better job of trying to be cute.

** At the start of Episode 11, we are treated to [[spoiler:a close-up of Kuroha's [[SlasherSmile facial expression]], done entirely in black and red and lifted straight out of the ''Outer Science'' PV]]. Yes, it was ''already'' horrifying enough in the original PV; redrawing it was unnecessary.
** During Episode 12, [[spoiler:the Wide-Eyes Snake possesses Konoha's body to transform him into Kuroha. [[PainfulTransformation Konoha's screams as he is engulfed in a writhing black mass of snakes sounds less than pleasant]]]].

** [[spoiler:While he does appear in the OP and a brief moment at the start of Episode 11, Kuroha only properly emerges during the second half of the last episode, and is dead within 5 minutes]].

** In the anime itself there's Seto and Marry, the former running away in embarrassment after trying to explain something to the latter and failing; she also mentions how grateful she is to Seto for rescuing her; finally in Episode 10 once Imagination Forest starts playing, you can see Seto blushing upon seeing Marry for the first time and the lyrics also seem to indicate that Marry has feelings for him. Also, [[spoiler:when Possessed!Kenjirou narrates Marry's story, he always refers to Seto ("The Boy") separate from the rest of the Dan, implying he is of greater emotional importance to Marry. It is also when Kuroha attacks Seto that she snaps and goes to reset time]].

** In the last episode [[spoiler:Kuroha looks rather [[http://i.imgur.com/9khqKFU.png cartoonish]] and [[http://i.imgur.com/Xbtiyohs.jpg goofy]], rather than menacing. There are also some rather ridiculous looking bits of animation for the [[http://i.imgur.com/2mYf0Fzs.jpg Dan]] once he starts throwing them around.]]

** The CG graphics in the OP of episode 9 are widely considered to be the worst ever seen in an anime. Thankfully, the blu-ray fixed it by having a much better animation, though it wasn't in CG.

** Some fans don't like the character designs in the anime as compared to the music video/manga/light novel illustrations. The anime makes them look older and more seinen than before.
** Another point of contention is whether Shaft's signature ''LightNovel/{{Bakemonogatari}}'' style really fits the the franchise or not.
** Yet another: Is the anime's way of telling the story mysterious and intriguing, or is it just confusing viewers by not giving them important information that other adaptations did?

** Halfway through Episode 10, when [[spoiler:Azami prepares herself to enter the Daze. Alone. Between how profusely she apologises to Shion, Shion's screaming at her to stop, and Tsukihiko's howl of anguish when he arrives too late to stop her, it's a very painful scene to watch. Add to this the fact that Azami was first described on terms of an EmotionlessGirl, and suddenly her pained facial expression as she says her final goodbye is a lot more heartbreaking]].
** This is followed up by [[spoiler:the deaths of Shion and Marry. Shion manages to turn the first attacker to stone and reach her daughter, and as she died from using her powers, turned the second one to stone too... it was just too late to prevent him hitting Marry with his club. The fact that Azami could only save Marry makes it worse. Add to that the fact that this was ''the first time'' Marry ever ventured outside, and it's heartbreaking. No wonder she stayed a {{Hikikomori}} for 130 years]].

* BrokenAesop: To some, the [[spoiler: EveryoneLives GoldenEnding]] ruins the message of moving on from the past since the characters can just pick up where they left off instead of moving forward. [[BrokenBase Let's just leave it]] [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgment at that for now.]]

* JumpingTheShark: The first few episodes drew accusations that the show itself counted as StudioShaft's JumpingTheShark, due to overuse of Shaft's usual gimmicks and allegedly poor storytelling.
