* IKnewIt: Upon being asked if the game would be a prequel, the developers answered that they didn't want to disclose it, as details would have less impact otherwise. Many ''immediately'' and correctly guessed it to be a prequel on the grounds of guilt by omission, as if it were to be a proper sequel they would have given a straightforward answer. Eventually, one of the developers outright confirmed it was a prequel.

** There’s a theory that the Hunter is a normal person managed to escape the craziness of the outside world, but lost his family and went mad from the isolation. The stuffed people in his house are his insane effort to recreate his family and he’s using Six as a ReplacementGoldfish for his own child, hence why he keeps her alive and presumably feeds her (the tally marks say she’s been there for 55 days).

"What an idiot." is flame bait.

* [[WhatanIdiot What an Idiot]]:
** Chapter 1: The Wilderness
*** Six and Mono are running for their lives from the Hunter. They end up in the swamp of the Wilderness and hide from the Hunter there. Now, one particular puzzle involves both kids pushing down a dead tree to make shelter... which just gives away their position to the Hunter. After this, they immediately dive back into the mud to avoid being seen.\\
'''You'd expect:''' For the Hunter to just, you know, ''walk'' through the swamp. Yes, it will get his boots dirty (not that he seems like a neat freak...), but it will allow him to easily find the kids and put a bullet in their heads.\\
'''Instead:''' He keeps walking across the boards on the swamp, despite now knowing where Six and Mono are hiding. Eventually, the children finally escape him and discover an abandoned cabin... with a second shotgun. [[spoiler:Cue the Hunter's death.]]
** Chapter 2: The School
*** Mono has just caused a bookshelf to fall while trying to grab a key to the school elevator. He quickly hides in a box, just as the Teacher arrives to see what's going on. She uses her endlessly-stretchy neck to survey the room.\\
'''You'd think:''' That she'd check inside the box. After all, this mess looks like it could've been caused by one of the Bullies, considering their status, and the box looks like it could fit one.\\
'''Instead:''' She [[FailedASpotCheck fails a spot check]] and gives up the search. She makes the same mistakes when Mono is on high ground and accidentally knocks objects over.
*** The Bullies are such idiots one wonders why the Teacher keeps them as her students. After ''dropping a locker'' on Mono and trapping him inside, they proceed to beat up and kidnap Six.\\
'''You'd expect:''' For at least one of the Bullies to stay and make sure Mono doesn't escape the locker.\\
'''Instead:''' They ALL leave (there IS one bully near the locker but he doesn't seem to be aware of what just happened). This leads to Mono escaping the locker, channeling his inner BigBrotherInstinct, and going to work on saving Six, all while cracking the Bullies' fragile heads open with a hammer.
*** The Cafeteria section. After Mono kills several bullies with a spoon, one of the bullies' heads pops out of his body rather than shattering to pieces. In order to get through the rest of the Bully-infested cafeteria, Mono uses the head as a disguise... except [[PaperThinDisguise said disguise is VERY pathetic]]. First, there's a huge hole on the right side of the bully's head (allowing the player to get a good look at Mono's face. Second, Mono is a head shorter than all the bullies. Third, he's barefoot. And fourth, he is not wearing school attire.\\
'''You'd expect:''' For all the bullies in the area to KNOW something's amiss.\\
'''Instead:''' They just ignore this guy who doesn't look a THING like them and just continue doing what they're doing. This allows Mono to escape the cafeteria and continue his attempt to save Six.
** Chapter 3: The Hospital
*** According to a Playstation Blog, several citizens of the Pale City (that, yes, were actually sane and normal compared to [[AxCrazy everyone]] [[BodyHorror else]] as far as we're aware) tried to find a way to cure their boredom.\\
'''You'd Expect:''' Them to find new hobbies to do, even in a place that doesn't exactly feature much aside from its television-addicted populace. Reading a book, visiting someplace, or trying to chase small children like 90% of the monsters in the series do are among their choices.\\
'''Instead:''' They go to the Hospital and try to ask its resident MadDoctor to fix their problem for them.\\
'''Result:''' These normal people are turned into living mannequins by the Doctor, being doomed to wander the Hospital's dark hallways (since ANY light source causes them to stop in place) presumably for the rest of their lives. And because their mouths and vocal cords were removed, ''they can't even voice their complaints.''
*** In quite possibly the most frustrating part of the game, Mono and Six are about tear some wooden planks off a door to get to the next room. However, something starts banging from inside a steel drawer, and while Six tries to keep it at bay, a Living Hand shows up and Mono tries to kill it with a nearby pipe. After two strikes, the steel drawer Six is trying to contain gives way and reveals a [[OhCrap ''second'' Living Hand]].\\
'''You'd expect:''' for Six to try and help Mono by distracting or fighting off one of the living hands (more specifically, the one that escaped the drawer), while Mono kills the other. It will make things easier and save both kids time.\\
'''Instead:''' She IGNORES the Living Hands and Mono and tries to rip out the wooden planks, never mind that 1) Six isn't strong enough to rip out the planks without Mono's help, and 2) if Mono gets killed by both Hands (which will VERY likely happen if the player isn't careful), she would be trapped in there with no way to escape.
*** After Mono nearly kills a patient by disabling it's life-support system, the Doctor quickly rushes in to try and save the patient. With him distracted, both Mono and Six can steal the power cell the Doctor was holding on to and using to open a door... which catches the Doctor's attention. After a long chase sequence that leads to the crematorium, Six opens the crematorium oven and Mono hops inside, all while ''in clear view of the Doctor.''\\
'''You'd Expect:''' for him to realize the kids are trying to trick him, quickly grab Six, who's busy keeping the oven door open and not even trying to hide, quickly close the door and then turn on the oven before Mono can escape. There, both children are dead, GameOver.\\
'''Instead:''' The doctor throws away ''any'' sense of personal safety he has and goes inside the vent to try and kill Mono. It fails.\\
'''The result:''' Six closes the oven door after Mono escapes, which traps the Doctor inside. [[spoiler: To make things worse, depending on player choices, the kids can choose to either leave him there to likely starve, or turn on the handle to burn him alive. Either way, the Doctor has no one to blame but himself for his own death.]]
** Chapter 4: The Pale City
*** At the start of the game, Mono has a weird dream in which he's in a loopy hallway inside the [[EldritchLocation Signal Tower]] which leads to a door with the eye symbol. Throughout the game (specifically, the beginning of chapters 2 and 3), he keeps using a TV to hijack the Transmission and invade the Signal Tower, but every time before he can open the door at the end, Six keeps pulling him out of there.\\
'''You'd expect:''' That at some point after Chapter 3, Six would have a discussion with Mono about this and try to stay away from the televisions for as long as possible. True, this may be a series where characters don't speak aside from "pssts" and "heys" from Mono, but not having an intervention with your friend about a bad habit of his is NEVER a good idea.\\
'''Instead:''' The two never bring it up. This bites them in the ass BIG TIME later on...\\
'''Eventually''': Mono invades the Transmission again using ANOTHER TV inside a run-down apartment in the Pale City, and this time, Six doesn't stop him.\\
'''You'd THEN expect:''' For Mono to think things through. After all, the Pale City is a CrapsackWorld filled to the brim with monsters, and the Tower he keeps invading just to access a hallway slows down his movement unnaturally, has a weird ambiance, and in general, is just freaky. Whatever's behind this mysterious door can't possibly be a good guy, thus it's best to just leave and not take any chances.\\
'''Instead:''' He opens the door anyway.\\
'''End Result:''' [[spoiler:[[SarcasmMode Congratulations, Mono]]. You've unleashed the [[BigBad Thin Man]].]]
*** [[spoiler:Later, after Mono's earlier blunder and freeing the Thin Man from the Signal Tower, both him and Six are now fleeing from this new enemy, who can distort reality, make Mono move slower, and seemingly teleport. Both kids find a bedroom, complete with a round table and a bed, to hide in.]]\\
'''You'd expect:''' [[spoiler:For Six to hide under the bed like Mono's doing.]]\\
'''Instead:''' [[spoiler:She hides under the table, where she can ''easily be spotted''.\\
'''Sure enough:''' [[spoiler:The Thin Man easily finds Six, kidnaps her, and takes her to the Signal Tower, forcing Mono to brave two levels worth of hell just to get through the Viewers and the Thin Man, invade the Signal Tower, and save Six from it's corrupting influence...[[UngratefulBitch Not that she's grateful]] in the end...]]
** Chapter 5: The Transmission
*** [[spoiler:Mono, after killing the Thin Man with his powers, braving the weird Signal Tower, and freeing Six from her corruption, gets [[EtTuBrute betrayed by Six]] and left behind at the Signal Tower not long after. Saddened, he takes a seat in a chair inside the tower and waits... [[MoodWhiplash Oh, and by the way]], his powers consist of [[RealityWarper reality warping]] and world bending, which means he can probably rip apart the Signal Tower using only his ''mind''!]]\\
'''You'd Expect:''' [[spoiler:For Mono to y'know, USE these powers?! He still has a chance to escape! He can't give up now!]]\\
'''Instead:''' [[spoiler:He just completely gives up and stays seated there. Years pass and Mono turns into the Thin Man, becoming the VERY monster he ''just'' killed a few hours ago in [[AmbiguousSituation what may or may not]] be a StableTimeLoop. And speaking of a stable time loop...]]
** Theories
*** [[spoiler:While not exactly confirmed, a famous theory about the ending is that the Thin Man who kidnaps Six and chases Mono throughout Chapter 4 is actually ''Mono's future self'', trying to [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong prevent Six from betraying his past self and making him stay at the Signal Tower]]. Now let's go back ALL the way to Chapter 4 in the scene where Mono freed the Thin Man from his prison and is now being attacked by him. Assuming the above theory is right and that the Thin Man here is really Future!Mono...]]\\
'''You'd Expect:''' [[spoiler: [[BoringButPratical The Thin Man to just tell the kids who he is and what he wants, and then just LEAVE THEM ALONE.]] That way, both kids will go their merry way and escape the Pale City without betrayal or death.]]\\
'''Alternatively:''' [[spoiler: If he was feeling [[RevengeBeforeReason vengeful and sadistic enough]], to just kill Six instead of kidnapping her. That way, Past!Mono, while sad and grieving for his friend, can't do jack about avenging her and would be forced to escape without her.]]\\
'''Instead:''' [[spoiler: Future Mono doesn't do ''either'' option. He chooses to kidnap Six and take her to the Signal Tower rather than just getting revenge (though one could say that making her get corrupted by the Transmission is a way of doing it), and he does it without saying a word or dropping a hint of who he really is. Again, this may be a series where characters don't talk, but is not revealing to your past self about something horrible your OnlyFriend will do to you in the near future REALLY a good idea?! This just gives Past! Mono all the more reason to evade the Thin Man and go after Six. Not helping is the Thin Man being a dick and trying to ''capture'' his past self rather than just leave him alone.]]\\
'''Granted:''' [[spoiler:Future Mono's time in the Signal Tower may have made him go as [[AxCrazy completely insane]] as everyone else in the Pale City, but still, he's supposed to be the one who KNOWS how this entire thing will go out.\\
'''The Result:''' [[spoiler:Future Mono dies, Past Mono helps Six only to get betrayed, gets left behind in the Signal Tower, and grows up to become the Thin Man, [[HereWeGoAgain thus resulting in another loop]]. Oh well, better luck next cycle]]!\\
'''Even Worse:''' [[spoiler:''ANOTHER'' theory states that judging by the "6" engraving on the mysterious door if you look closely, this implies the loop has happened ''6 times already'' but Mono hasn't learned ANYTHING from his failures and why he always ends up trapped in the Signal Tower]].
*** [[spoiler:Tying into the above "Mono is the Thin Man" theory, another theory may explain why Six betrayed Mono at the end. Rather than just selfishness or blind rage at him for destroying her precious music box (which by the way, was the thing keeping her in her monster form), she may have left him for another reason; after catching him with her hand, Six finally got a good look on Mono's face without his paper bag in the way, compared it to the Thin Man's, and ended up realizing that the Thin Man who kidnapped her and the boy who just busted his ass trying to save her are [[MyFutureSelfAndMe one and the same]]. Now she's there, having grabbed Mono and stopped him from falling to his death, and pondering what to do next while Mono hangs on for dear life]].\\
'''You'd Think:''' [[spoiler: For Six to just suck it, pull Mono up, TELL him about her discovery, and take steps to ensure he doesn't grow up into a monster]].\\
'''Instead:''' [[spoiler: She drops him. If it wasn't a PayEvilUntoEvil situation done out of anger or shock, then it was her desperately hoping Mono wouldn't survive the fall and thus grow up into the Thin Man. Either way, it's VERY dumb of her.]]\\
'''The Result of all of this:''' [[spoiler: Mono not only survives but goes on to [[ForegoneConclusion grow up and become the Thin Man ANYWAY]]. Assuming BOTH theories are correct, then what's quite potentially the most powerful and terrifying monster in the ''Little Nightmares'' series was created only through Six's less-than-brilliant decisions.]]

Now a Trivia trope and requires creator confirmation.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Many felt that the Lady from the first game didn't work as the main BigBad due to having very little presence and an [[AntiClimaxBoss anticlimatic boss fight]]. Here, the Thin Man feels like a proper main villain as he is foreshadowed and play a bigger role.
** The game is much longer, whereas short length was a criticism of the first one.
** On the [[UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch Nintendo Switch]] port, the loading screens are much shorter compared to the first game.

*** While not exactly confirmed, a famous theory about the ending is that the Thin Man who kidnaps Six and chases Mono throughout Chapter 4 is actually ''Mono's future self'', trying to prevent Six from betraying his past self and making him stay at the Signal Tower. Now let's go back ALL the way to Chapter 4 in the scene where Mono freed the Thin Man from his prison and is now being attacked by him. Now, assuming the above theory is right and that the Thin Man here is actually Future!Mono...\\
'''You'd Expect:''' The Thin Man to just tell the kids who he is and what he wants. There, that way, both will go their merry way and escape the Pale City without betrayal or death.\\
'''Alternatively:''' If he was feeling vengeful and sadistic enough, to just kill Six instead of kidnapping her. That way, Past!Mono, while sad and grieving for his friend, can't do jack-shit about avenging her and would be forced to escape without her.\\
'''Instead:''' Future Mono doesn't do ''either'' option. He chooses to kidnap Six and take her to the Signal Tower rather than just getting revenge, and he does it without saying a word or dropping a hint of who he really is. Again, this may be a series where characters don't talk, but is not revealing to your past self about something horrible your OnlyFriend will do to you in the near future REALLY a good idea?! This just gives Past! Mono all the more reason to evade the Thin Man and go after Six. Not helping is the Thin Man being a dick and trying to ''capture'' his past self rather than just leave him alone.\\
'''The Result:''' Future Mono dies, Past Mono helps Six only to get betrayed, gets left behind in the Signal Tower, and grows up to become the Thin Man, thus resulting in another loop. Oh well, better luck next cycle!\\
'''Even Worse:''' ''ANOTHER'' theory states that judging by the "6" engraving on the mysterious door if you look closely, this implies the loop has happened ''6 times already'' but Mono hasn't learned ANYTHING from his failures and why he always ends up trapped in the Signal Tower.
