* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: In the western world, ''Gokaiger'' is one of the most popular Sentai series in recent history (bordering on SacredCow) thanks to its great cast, memorable battles and being a great tribute to Franchise/SuperSentai in general. Another reason it's well liked is due to the negative reception of it's ''Power Rangers'' adaptation due to how badly it botched adapting it.

** The fact that a lot of the fight scenes involve the Gokaigers transforming into past Sentai teams that never received a Franchise/PowerRangers adaptation, adapting this series proved quite challenging for the PR-team. One option would be to limit the StockFootage to just that of teams that did get a Power Rangers-equivalent, but that would mean shooting a lot of new scenes to make up for the unusable ones, which would seriously strain the budget. ''[[Series/PowerRangersMegaforce Power Rangers Super Megaforce]]'' responded to this by...just using ''some'' the unadapted Sentai teams while leaving out others, with only the vague explanation of how they've "never been seen on Earth before", which many fans decried as a lazy solution. Then there were the fleeting moments where they ''did'' bother to shoot new footage of adapted team and individual ranger suits in some episodes, sometimes also green-screening an individual suit over one in the ''Gokaiger'' footage, having the suit actor replicate the movements in the footage as best as possible, then they shot pick-up shots on location to insert in. But ''then'' there was the moment in episode 19 (which adapted episode 49 of ''Gokaiger''), where they replaced Vul Eagle with the red ranger from ''Mighty Morphin''/''Zyuranger'', but kept the other 4 suits (Blue Mask, [=FiveYellow=], [=ChangeGriffon=], and Green Flash), including making their ''own'' versions of those suits for no real reason for pick-up shots, it really brings up the question of how much money they had for each episode and how much of that money and effort would it take to shoot new footage of adapted teams to replace unadapted ones and what the mindset was of the producers towards budgeting and making sure production-wise if anything made any sense to people why they did or didn't do something they should've, which comes off as very inconsistent.
** Apparently, Haim Saban didn't like the whole "pirates being good guys" thing for some reason (even though the point of it was that they become better people over the course of the series and have morals that have them protect the innocent against the Zangyack stemming from their own backstories like any other Ranger team would), so the writers were presumably told to gut that part from the series when they licensed it and began planning on how they would adapt it into ''Power Rangers.'' This left the characters in ''Megaforce'' mismatched with Pirate-themed suits and zords, as well as not a lot of character traits to adapt that would mesh very well with their personalities or backstories (as nonexistent or unestablished as they were).

And the tip of the cake, Luka actually says "''Baka!''" [[note]]"Idiot!"[[/note]].

* LoveToHate: Yes, Basco is a scumbag of the highest order who is motivated by his own greed and his willingness to hurt people in order to get his way including children and his own pet and partner won't get him any likeable points. However, he is considered the greatest villain of the season not only because of how personal of a threat he is tho the Gokaigers compared to the Zangyack, but being a great foil to Captain Marvelous and being super cunning, which allows him to be one step ahead of his enemies. Kei Hosogai's performance also makes him fun to watch.

** How did Gai's ability to merge ranger keys together ''not'' have a larger role beyond the Go-On Wings, Gold Mode and Gokai Christmas?Christmas? Probably a case of RealLifeWritesThePlot, since it would presumably take a lot of resources to create many mix-and-match forms.

Pretty much none of the Hilarious in Hindsight entries counted, as I explained here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15816392660A25032600&page=158#comment-3938

** [[ComicBook/ScottPilgrim Pirates are in this year, indeed.]]
** We can now remake "[[UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny]]" with a ''real'' picture of every single Power Ranger.
** It's possible that the popularity of Manta Headder from Goseiger (which turns into a pirate-themed mecha head) inspired Gokaiger as a whole. This gets lampshaded in TheMovie.
** Joe's mentor, Sid, is a [[VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance sword-wielding, one-eyed cyborg]].
** The Mobirates' announcement for Sentai names during any Gokai Change is ''exactly'' the way the Carrangers announce their team name, which itself was a RunningGag in its series[[note]]To elaborate, the Carrangers always say "Carrrrrranger!" at the end of their roll call. The Villains, or pretty much everyone else for that matter, took it to heart that they ended up using the long version throughout the series instead of the proper name, even in serious conversations.[[/note]].
** Goseiger's card system brought [[Series/KamenRiderDecade Decade's card system]] to mind. Gokaiger brought everything else in Decade to mind.
*** Speaking of ''Decade'', one of the rumors about the titular rider was that he would either be an [[spoiler:EvilOverlord]] or an {{Otaku}}. Did the second guess lead to Gai Ikari's inception?
** As Ryouma and Hyuuga note, the Gingaman fought SpacePirates, and then we got a SpacePirate Sentai.
** A Red Ranger's actor initially declined to appear in a tribute episode because he wanted to put that part of the career behind himself. Other members of the cast and crew convinced him to appear, though as a result, he has limited screentime. Now, am I talking about Kazuki Maehara[[note]]who played Ryouma in ''Gingaman''[[/note]], or [[Series/PowerRangersLostGalaxy Danny Slavin]]?
** In #39, a [[RecycledInSpace space newspaper]] has an article about [[spoiler:the death of Warz Gill]] on a page that's headered as "Space Sports Extra". Wonder if that means [[Music/TheLonelyIsland the space sports had to be totally cancelled...]]

** Still on ''One Piece'', Sanji is noticeably missing from the Expies in the main cast...but his [[Creator/HiroakiHirata voice actor]] isn't, being the voice of Machalcon.
** And another from ''One Piece'', with Creator/KazukiYao a.k.a. Franky reprising his role as Ninjaman.
** Ninjaman says that he was trapped in Negakure Temple for roughly ten years, because of the rampage of zoo animals. Wait, what was the [[Series/HyakujuuSentaiGaoranger Sentai]] team around that time? Bonus points for all the animals pictured having counterparts in the then active Power Animals.
** While there's been no shortage of pirate Ranger fanfics before ''Gokaiger'', [[http://www.rangerboard.com/showthread.php?t=33965 at least one]] managed to predict the ''characteristics and assigned colors'' [[https://i.imgur.com/pkdYYgf.jpg of the core 5 heroes.]]
** We finally get some idea of what [[Series/KamenRiderDecade the riders were going through during the Final Form Rides]] in the form of Don being the Zuban sword in #51.
** In the movie, the Gokaigers intend on hunting down the God's Eye, so that it will grant their wish to gain the greatest treasure in the universe. Of course, what the great treasure actually does is [[spoiler:grant a wish.]]
** Throughout Gokaiger there was a lot of fans desperately trying to find [[ShoutOut references]] to Franchise/PowerRangers when in reality there were very few. Well come the [[Series/TokumeiSentaiGoBusters next series]]...
** In the first episode, Marvelous asks Luka for her ring to be pawned, which makes the [[RomanceOnTheSet initial rumors]] that started circulating around their actors inherently funny.
** At the start the series, [[http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/go-kai/gokaimachine/img/g_02B.png Magi Gokaioh]] have one Bizarre Anatomy with a dragon head in a chest, and now see the Series/KamenRiderWizard [[http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/wizard/rider/img/rider/alldragon.jpg All Dragon]], and [[Series/MahouSentaiMagiranger both]] use Magic.

** MonsterOfTheWeek Daiyal can shift his size ''both'' up and down, mimicking Marvel's Ant-Man. Come the actual ''Film/AntMan1'' movie, and our hero relies less on superheroics and more on deception with disguises, just like Ahim did to deal with him.
** 2 related to ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans'':
*** In ''Gokaiger'', Luka, a pirate who dual-wields [[WhipItGood whip swords]] is played by M.A.O. In ''IBO'', M.A.O. plays Julieta Julis - a mech pilot who later pilots a mobile suit that dual-wields whip swords...who is introduced '''HUNTING PIRATES'''. Incidentally, she's partnered [[spoiler: and later gets together]] with a character played by an older Sentai actor-turned voice actor, [[CharClone Vidar]], played by the former [[Series/DenjiSentaiMegaranger Mega Blue]], Creator/MasayaMatsukaze.
*** The voice actors of Jealouso and Insarn would go onto play 2 members of Gjallarhorn, (the villainous organization of ''Gundam IBO''), [[CharClone McGillis Fareed]] and [[BigBadWannabe Carta Issue]], and like in ''Gokaiger'', there would be a case of [[AllLoveIsUnrequited unrequited love]], [[spoiler: and the former survives the season and ends up on good terms with the main characters, whereas the latter is killed by the heroes]]. However, what's different here is that Carta has the unrequited feelings, and instead of eloping, [=McGillis=] is already engaged.
** In one episode, Luka asks Gai if there's a rule saying that kids can't be Super Sentai. [[spoiler:Sure enough, along comes ''Series/ResshaSentaiToQger''. Heck, Gai's the one that asks them for their Ranger keys!]]
** In the last episode, Navi tells the pirates, "I didn't want you getting lonely without me". [[spoiler: Navi would end up getting left behind on Earth after the rangers come back to Earth and leave again in ''Series/DoubutsuSentaiZyuohger''.]]

** For some, finally having a pirate season was awesome, but it was hijacked by the anniversary aspects. Many fans feel a season could have been solely about pirates with extra swashbuckling adventure and left the anniversary season to a team with a more downplayed motif.

** Episode 27, when Luka and Don [[FreakyFridayFlip body swap]], they don't modify Gokai Green's costume into a MiniDressOfPower, thus missing the chance of having the first female Green Ranger in ''Super Sentai'' history. [[Series/UchuSentaiKyuranger We'd have to wait about six more years for that]].

** At the end of the Boukenger tribute, Akashi mentions [=AkaRed=]. Some people thought that this line indicated that [=AkaRed=] would have a larger role in the story than he'd had previously, but by the end of the series it turned out that he didn't have any more of a role than being Marvelous' former mentor and the one who gave him his powers. The line was just meant to refer to [=AkaRed=]'s first appearance in the ''Boukenger vs. Super Sentai'' movie.

** Episode 34, a Luka episode, would have been the perfect time to have a Yellow Charge for the Gokai Galleon Buster. Ultimately, Luka remains the Gokaiger not to have taken the lead with the Team Cannon.

** Of all the Gokaiger pairings, Joe and Don never an episode together despite making for a perfect contrast, between the honorable, strong warrior and the technical expert who started out as a cowardly weakling. Though they do eventually get paired together in ''Super Hero Taisen'', the MassiveMultiplayerCrossover doesn't really have time to touch on their differences. One could argue that, in spite of its many flaws, ''Super Megaforce'' had the right idea in changing ''Gokaiger's'' FreakyFridayFlip episode to be between Green and Blue rather than Green and Yellow.

* HardToAdaptWork: The fact that a lot of the fight scenes involve the Gokaigers transforming into past Sentai teams that never received a Franchise/PowerRangers adaptation, adapting this series proved quite challenging for the PR-team. One option would be to limit the StockFootage to just that of teams that did get a Power Rangers-equivalent, but that would mean shooting a lot of new scenes to make up for the unusable ones, which would seriously strain the budget. ''[[Series/PowerRangersMegaforce Power Rangers Super Megaforce]]'' responded to this by... just using the unadapted Sentai teams, with only the vague explanation of how they've "never been seen on Earth before", which many fans decried as a lazy solution.

* CrazyAwesome: Where to even begin... Marvelous's solution for dealing with gunfire is to just shoot faster, Luka's way of saving an innocent civilian is to throw a sword at a mook going their way, Don fights off mooks with improvised trapeze stunts and wrestling moves, the team deals with a meteor by '''''throwing''''' a mecha at it with another mecha; name just about any episode and chances are, it's filled to the brim with showy, silly, and over-the-top epicness.
