* SugarWiki/SheReallyCanAct: Renee Zellweger showed that she indeed still had it with her powerhouse performance, nailing both Judy Garland's pathos as well as her lesser known mischievous side. Her closing rendition of "Over the Rainbow" deserves mention here; rather than flawlessly polished, she realistically portrays a once great singer who's not as brilliant as she used to be but still makes up for it with her performance.

Added DiffLines:

* JerkassWoobie: Judy herself is a disaster, and you feel sorry for all the people who have to put up with her. But seeing the flashbacks to her abuse in the studio system, as well as the sad state of her current life, it's impossible not to feel for her.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Even those who don't like the movie admit that Renee Zellweger's performance is the best thing about it.

* TearDryer: Judy is initially unable to sing "Over the Rainbow" because she's so overcome with emotion, and it looks like things are going to be disastrous. Then slowly, the people in the audience get up to sing it too. Judy is incredibly moved, beaming "I love you all, you won't forget me, will you?"
* TearJerker:
** While it's one thing to know how horribly Judy Garland was treated in her child star days, it's another to actually see it happening. Even being given drugs to control her appetite and keep her weight down, and more drugs to keep up with her busy schedule. She was only fifteen at this point.
** While heartwarming too, the sequence where Judy joins two fans at their flat after the show is incredibly bittersweet. The poor woman only has fans she's never even met to turn to for comfort.
