* AmericansHateTingle: This franchise might be popular in its homecountry and some countries has some good to mixed reaction to some anime seasons. But the franchise and anime had a cold reception towards English Anime fans, particularly the fansubbing community due to the stigma of being a Sanrio Franchise[[note]]Yes, there are some anime fans who dislike anything Sanrio related[[/note]] attached to it and even a niche part of the fanbase cared for it. Even American licensors can't touch it due to being a franchise for little girls.
** Most precise example is Labra, on which she is reviled by some English Fans for being an even worse [[TheScrappy Scrappy]] than Ruby, but Japan seriously love her to death and that [[http://www.pixiv.net/search.php?s_mode=s_tag_full&word=%E3%83%A9%E3%83%96%E3%83%A9 she beats fan favorites in the Pixiv popularity poll.]]

** "Strawberry Time", an insert song from the first series used to defeat Dian.
** Background music isn't anything shabby either. See the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhGMqoMnH1U epic sounding introduction]] to every episode of the first series.

** The song "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f90VG2WoYfo Strawberry Time]]" on episode 37 of the first series is even catchier.

* FandomRivalry: A minor one with ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic''. Threads about MLP in an anime forum invariably feature at least one comparison between the two, followed by wankery about which one is better.

** The franchise was marketed to hell and back when the first series started airing in Europe, but enthusiasm for it died down a year or so later, with a lot of countries only airing the first two seasons (sometimes, not even the second one). When it came time for ''Sunshine'''s debut, only Spain and Portugal were left, thanks to the efforts of Luk Internacional (to give you an idea, they also brought the entirety of ''Anime/OnegaiMyMelody''). And as of ''Kira Deco'', Portugal is officially the only European country left still airing new seasons.
* GirlShowGhetto: The reason for the franchise or the anime not being officially released outside Japan.
* HilariousInHindsight: During the course of the entire franchise, [[Creator/AyakaSaitou Ruby]] was sometimes portrayed as an innocent but outlandishly cute magical rabbit, who is sometimes clumsy and rather mischievous. Fast forward to 2016, and Saitou now voiced a [[Anime/MahoGirlsPreCure living magical teddy bear who actually is the same]] as Ruby.
** In Happiness, [[Creator/AkiToyosaki Angela]] had a secret crush on [[Creator/RyoheiKimura Takumi Asano]], who also secretly loves her. Then ''Anime/ValvraveTheLiberator'' came and they have been promoted to true lovers, but the former didn't lived to see him again.
** Also in Happiness, [[Creator/MegumiHan Chiari Tsukikage]] befriends Angela in the first episode. Then ''Anime/KamisamaMinaraiHimitsuNoCocotama'' came and both became [[FanNickname Furry Egg Underpants Gods]], with the latter having a SempaiKohai relationship with the former.

* MostAnnoyingSound: Labra's crying in all seasons. It can definitely make your ear drums bleed.
* NightmareFuel: The scene in the movie where Park [[spoiler:morphs into his monstrous form]] will most likely startle first-time viewers.

* PeripheryDemographic: At first, the entire franchise appealed to girls only. It was with the release of ''Twinkle'' that the series started appealing to older demographics, including otakus. ''Sunshine'' followed and the series did get an even bigger fanbase, though Twinkle is still more prominent.

** Labra, due to being a KidAppealCharacter who always complain on things and pretty much being too bratty which is the reason why the [[AmericansHateTingle English Anime Fanbase hated her]].
* SnarkBait: The ''ENRIRE'' Sweets Dance Princess Movie. Everything in the movie is one big bait to dedicated fans that ended as both a BoxOfficeBomb and AcclaimedFlop. This mainly due that they think the movie will be a crossover between 4 seasons in a CrisisCrossover, but it turned out to be a generic 63 minute advertisement for the Sweetspets with little to no plot.

** Labra, due to being a KidAppealCharacter who always complain on things and pretty much being too bratty. The reason why the [[AmericansHateTingle English Anime Fanbase hated her]].

* FriendlyFandoms: With ''VideoGame/{{Aikatsu}}'', ''Franchise/PrettyCure'' and ''[[VideoGame/PrettyRhythmAuroraDream Pretty Rhythm]]''/''VideoGame/PriPara''. In the latter case, it helps that it airs back-to-back with ''Jewelpet'' in Japan.

The anime has done this since the beginning, but the first series had small doses of it and ''Twinkle'' had a reasonable balance. However, ''Sunshine'' truly spoilt the secondary audiences too much (18-year old characters worried about their future, taboo love and a myriad of obscure pop-culture references are a winning combination for otakus, but not for little kids) and shot their expectations for ''Kira Deco'' far too high. Hence, the outrage of the secondary audience when ''Kira Deco'' turned out to be LighterAndSofter so it'd be more appealing to kids (its ''main demographic'') again. The Blu-Ray Selection box is just another example of surrendering to the periphery demographic.
* PeripheryDemographic: At first, the entire franchise appealed to girls only. It was with the release of ''Twinkle'' that the series started appealing to older demographics, including otakus. That is because ''Twinkle'' has the producer of ''Manga/TokyoMewMew'' and ''VisualNovel/NanatsuiroDrops'' in charge.

** When the anime was first announced back in 2009, a lot of ''Anime/OnegaiMyMelody'' fans were divided. The hating part think that ''Onegai My Melody'' should have a 5th season to compensate for the mistakes of ''Kirara''. The others thought it was great that ''My Melody'' was finally put to rest and that it was about time Studio Comet tried something new.

* AmericansHateTingle: This franchise might be mega-popular in its homecountry, but America absolutely won't touch it because of the stigma attached to [[GirlShowGhetto shows for little girls]], and even in the fansubbing scene, very few people care about it. And while it got exported to Europe, it didn't do that well there.

* ViewerSpeciesConfusion: Io and King. The first one is a particular species of rabbit characterized by having droopy ears; it's easy to think that he's a dog, especially in ''Twinkle'', where he forms a trio with two dog Jewelpets; it ended up being lampshaded in ''Happiness''. As for King, he is supposed to be a French bulldog, but his color scheme makes him look like ''some sort'' of creature who decided to wear a pink rabbit outfit... with a pig-like tail. Truly the stuff that MindScrew is made of.

* FashionVictimVillain: The Phantom Herb Thieves. Mint looks like a punk reject and Aojisho just looks plain outdated.
* FirstInstallmentWins: The first series in some European countries. In one or two cases, the ''only'' one to be aired. Averted everywhere else.

* MoralEventHorizon: In the first series, the ColonyDrop is considered the point at which the villains have gone too far.
* MostAnnoyingSound: "SAWA! YAKA! SAWA! YAKA! SAWA! YAKA!" would be more tolerable if it weren't repeated loudly and ''ad nauseam'' by Hisashi.
** Labra's crying can definitely make your ear drums bleed.

* SoOkayItsAverage: The general fan opinion of the first series.

* UncannyValley: The Jewelpets in the first series have eyes with a weaker shine than in following seasons. This might make them look more like puppets than living beings.
** The first series' non-Jewelpet character designs can also come across as this to some, due to how gaudy and just plain ''weird'' a lot of them are.

* CreatorsPet / CanonSue: Ruby. She's clumsy and irresponsible, but is also TheChosenOne, super-powerful and always knows the right thing to say or do. Also gets very little comeuppance for the crap she pulls. (Remember her abuse of Opal in ''Sunshine''? People chastised her, but she never actually apologized, and later even made a speech to Opal which made her seem like she was in the right.)

* MemeticSexGod: Judging by the fanart, Garnet and Macaronia for the pets, and Akari and Kanon for the humans.

* ContestedSequel: ''Sweets Dance Princess'' has some fans in doubt of whether it's a decent first attempt at a film, or just a big shameless ad for the Sweetspets.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The Blu-ray Selection box of ''Kira Deco'' only included 16 select episodes, all of them important to the series' initial plot. However, it causes a lot of {{Plot Hole}}s as not all the episodes were released due to the series' negative reception.

* ContestedSequel: ''Kira Deco'' qualifies as this, largely because most complainers belong to the PeripheryDemographic and they are disappointed with how much more childish the fourth season is compared to previous seasons, which often went out of their way to appeal to the otaku crowd. ''Sweets Dance Princess'' also had some fans in doubt of whether it's a decent first attempt at a film, or just a big shameless ad for the Sweetspets.

** ''Onegai My Jewelpet Kirara Deco'' for ''Kira Deco'' due to its plot being highly similar to ''Onegai My Melody Kirara''. And note that both of these series are considered the worst incarnations, except that ''Onegai My Melody Kirara'' turned out to be a FranchiseKiller for the ''My Melody'' anime.

** Pretending to be ''Kira Deco''-era Angela and Labra and arresting people for saying something which ticks them off (like FandomHeresy).

* {{Moe}}: Yamirin from ''Kira Deco''. [[spoiler:It helps that she was designed by an in-universe otaku.]]

* {{Narm}}: Labra's [[spoiler:death]] in episode 51 of ''Kira Deco'' loses all its impact when they show Angela's shocked reaction, which is super-deformed.
* NightmareFuel: Episode 25 of ''Kira Deco'', featuring a village of saury. Coal casts a spell to rot its inhabitants, and we get to see decaying zombie saury as a result. Then the unaffected saury decide to ''commit suicide'' by throwing themselves in a fire, to avoid becoming spoiled food. Yes, they do see themselves as food, and think it's a great honor to be killed and eaten by other beings. Even if the show treats the whole situation as absurd, it's pretty freaking horrible when you think about it.

* WhatDoYouMeanItWasntMadeOnDrugs: Some episodes of ''Kira Deco'' are so out there that it makes you think the writers were on crack. Exhibit A - the episode with a village of DeathSeeker sardines.
* {{Woolseyism}}: In episode 1 of ''Kira Deco'', Opal calls Ruby '{{Baka}}' and a discussion ensues about how Opal is more 'baka' because the word needs the characters of 'horse' (which Opal is) and 'deer' to be formed. In the Portuguese dub, Opal calls Ruby 'burra', which means both 'stupid' and 'donkey', and Garnet remarks that she is more 'burra' because of the closeness in species between horses and donkeys.

* DorkAge: The ''Kira Deco''-''Happiness'' years (roughly 2012-2015).

** ''Happiness'' is this as well, though it's generally agreed it's far from the franchise's best.

* FlatCharacter[=/=]StaticCharacter: A common criticism of ''Happiness'' is that nearly all the human characters are this.

* HilariousInHindsight: The relationship between Angela and Takumi mirrors that of [[Anime/ValvraveTheLiberator L-elf and Lieselotte]].
* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: Some fans have accused ''Happiness'' of trying too much to be like a LighterAndSofter ''Sunshine'' and not its own thing.

* SoOkayItsAverage: The general fan opinion of the first series and ''Happiness''.
* StrangledByTheRedString: Ruruka/Takumi from ''Happiness''. She doesn't interact with him a lot, and certainly not in a significant way. Yet she decides to give him Valentine's chocolate for some reason. It's a very poorly developed relationship compared with Chiari/Kosuke and Nene/Mouri.

* ValuesResonance: Episode 14 of ''Happiness'' has Taira not only admitting that he loves the Jewelpets, but he is liked and celebrated for it. SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped anyone?

* WinBackTheCrowd: ''Happiness'' attempts this by going back to the popular-with-older-audiences style of ''Sunshine'' after ''Kira Deco'''s failure.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Every series has its own continuity and they all give different personalities to the same characters (with exceptions like Ruby). For example, in ''Sunshine'', Opal is a studious ShrinkingViolet and a crybaby, but in ''Kira Deco'', she's a snooty and mean AlphaBitch.

** Keigo Tatewaki, the lost member of [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Celestial Being]].[[labelnote:*]]Fans had no idea who Tatewaki's voice actor was when the series first aired. Then the ending credits revealed that MamoruMiyano was doing his voice, which is hilarious considering he voiced [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Setsuna]]. Miyano doesn't usually voice {{Butt Monkey}}s. Until the gag OVA of the series and some CD Dramas showing Setsuna's humorous side were released, fans were rather shocked with Miyano's role.[[/labelnote]]
