* NoSuchThingAsBadPublicity: The massive backlash towards "Try That in a Small Town" over accusations of it having a racist message and supporting lynchings after the release of its music video coincided with the single reaching number on the ''Billboard Hot 100'', a first for Aldean's career.

* WinBackTheCrowd: After the bland and [[ItsTheSameNowItSucks samey]] ''Old Boots, New Dirt'' and ''They Don't Know'', ''Rearview Town'' seems to have done this with stronger and more inspired material, most notably the first two singles "You Make It Easy" and "Drowns the Whiskey".

* CoveredUp: Many of his songs, surprisingly, were recorded by others first. "Why", "Amarillo Sky", and "Johnny Cash" were previously recorded by Shannon Brown (another Music/BigAndRich protégé), [=McBride=] & the Ride, and Tracy Byrd, respectively. Also, "The Truth" was originally recorded by Trent Willmon, "My Kinda Party" recorded by country-rocker Music/BrantleyGilbert, and "Dirt Road Anthem" recorded by Colt Ford (with Gilbert also co-writing the latter and singing on it).

* CoverChangesTheMeaning: Shannon Brown's version of "Why" has all of the second-person pronouns in the song as first-person pronouns. The difference between Aldean's "Why do I do that to you?" and Brown's "Why do you do that to me?" change the tone of the song immediately. Aldean's is about a man who wants to change and is asking his girlfriend (but really himself) why he lets his temper get the better of him in arguments. Brown's is from the POV of the woman experiencing the temper, and definitely has a "woman stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship with a man who won't let her go" feel about it.

* CoverChangesTheMeaning: Shannon Brown's version of "Why" has all of the second-person pronouns in the song as first-person pronouns. Aldean's version is from the POV of a man who wants to change, and is asking his girlfriend (but really himself) why he lets his temper get the best of him in their arguments. Brown's version is told from the POV of the woman experiencing the temper, and asking ''him'' why he does these things to ''her''. Aldean's version is played as sympathetic, while Brown's version has much more "woman stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship" vibes to it.

* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: Said of "Gonna Know We Were Here", which many people find to be a watered-down rewrite of "Tattoos on This Town". Likewise, "They Don't Know" is seen as a rehash of "Fly Over States".

* EarWorm: "I can take you for a ride on my big green tractor / We can go slow or make it go faster…"
