** Xol the Unscathed is the easiest of the five final bosses of the Dungeon Run. Her gimmick is that she gets a free "beam" spell at the end of every turn, but she also announces which one she gets, making them relatively easy to play around - not that it matters too much, since more often than not they just end up being fodder for her discard effects. Her deck is built around discarding cards and completing the Lakkari Sacrifice quest, and her use of Howlfiends make it relatively easy to make her throw away the Nether Portal from the quest, neutering her win condition; even without discarding the quest, it's a lot less dangerous than the other final bosses' gimmicks, especially since her rampant discarding means she runs out of resources very quickly.

* GoddamnedBoss: The Steel Sentinel, the second boss of ''League of Explorers''' final wing, has a very frustrating passive hero power that causes it to [[DamageSpongeBoss reduce all damage it takes to 1]]. Pyroblast? 1 damage. Deathwing? 1 damage. Not even the infamous Divine Spirit+Inner Fire combo can be used to cheese it, meaning that players are stuck grinding it out. Adding to this, the Sentinel's deck contains tons of cards that either heal it or give it armor, making the fight take even longer, and the heroic version causes ''its minions'' to only take 1 damage too. The only saving grace is that it's more excruciatingly long than it is hard, plus a Mage deck featuring Flamewaker, Rhonin, and Malygos usually does the trick in a quick amount of time.

** The Darkness is by far the most tedious final boss of the Dungeon Run. While summoning a 5/5 for free every turn with its hero power is somewhat dangerous, most decks capable of reaching it should be able to handle them with the help of the three candles you get. The problem is The Darkness's deck, which is nothing but removal spells and mind control effects with a side of Looming Presence, making it almost impossible to actually push for damage until it runs out of cards. Very few Darkness fights are won by anything other than just throwing out cards until it goes deep into fatigue.

Ear Worm is not YMMV, it's for in-universe examples only.

** Signature cards, when first introduced in ''March of the Lich King'', were almost universally panned for looking bland and uninteresting thanks to them being DeliberatelyMonochrome, and the text on the card making it so it's tough to see the full art on the card. Come ''Festival of Legends'' and especially ''TITANS'', the signature cards were praised for hosting SugarWiki/AwesomeArt.

*** Death Knight decks that use one of each Rune are commonly known as "Rainbow Death Knight" due to the Runes being three different colors. This was given a nod by the ''Whizbang's Workshop'' card Rainbow Seamstress, which gains benefits for each different Rune your deck has.

** Snowflipper Penguin is a vanilla 0 mana 1/1 minion from ''Knights of the Frozen Throne'' which stands out among other pack filler cards by being [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter so incredibly adorable]] that no one seems capable of outright disliking it. Also, [[RuleOfCool it's a snowboarding penguin]]. To give you an idea, on Hearthpwn (one of the biggest Hearthstone databases and forums out there), '''84%''' of people who voted on the card's viability deemed it "Meta-defining" despite the card itself being entirely unremarkable from a gameplay perspective.

Snowflipper Penguin's popularity not only gave it the honor of being one of the very few non-Legendary minions to get a unique summon animation (and the first Common card at that), but also resulted in it being put in the Core set by player demand.

** When [[https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/King_Krush King Krush]] was added as an [[PromotedToPlayable Alternate Hunter Hero]], it ended up exposing an odd bug involving [[https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Warsong_Wrangler Warsong Wrangler]]. Wrangler discovers a Beast from the deck and gives all copies of it everywhere +2/+2, but should Wrangler discover the original King Krush, it would also buff the ''Hero'' Krush for +2/+2 as well, giving you plus 2 health and permanent 2 attack for the rest of the game. Presumably this is due to some programming ExactWords where it looks for anything with the same name to buff, exposing that Heroes technically count as some kind of card in the deck. Not the most meta strategy in Wild, but it lead to some jokes about the skin being [[BribingYourWayToVictory Pay To Win]] from the fanbase.

** Due to a combination of how the voice acting was directed and whether or not you're losing, the general consensus is that the heroes are a bunch of sarcastic shits in their emotes. Note that this doesn't really apply to Gul'dan, [[SmugSnake who's a sarcastic shit canonically]], Magni, Uther and Anduin to a lesser extent, [[NiceGuy who are very much sincere]], and Ragnaros and Jaraxxus, [[NoIndoorVoice for reasons you already know.]]

* CheeseStrategy: Because adventure bosses are balanced around the cards available at the time, it's not uncommon to see bosses being made trivial by a single new card that completely invalidates their gimmick:
** Illhoof is one of the most infamous examples. Sure, you could play the mission as intended and hold out against his endlessly-respawning Icky Imps until you kill enough of them to burn through his health... or you can just play Defile and kill him on turn 2.
** Patchwerk has only one card, a powerful Hook weapon that he uses to plow through your minions and health. Enter Kobold Stickyfinger, which steals the Hook and lets you beat him to death at your leisure. Before that, players would just take advantage of his empty deck and make him draw cards until he fatigued to death.

This is because the neutral Mech minions all synergize extremely well, so much in fact you can make a Mech Deck out of virtually any class with the bulk of minions staying the same. Mechs also happen to overlap with two common strategies: [[ZergRush sending a bunch of minions faster than your opponent can remove them]], buffing minion(s) so that your opponent will have a ''harder'' time dealing with them. ** In the ''Battlegrounds'' mode, most people pick one particular type and then stick to it. Whenever the abomination cards came out, players would always ''always'' rush them and start buffing the living hell out of them. Most people also rushed murlocs to get "Poison" which destoryed every card it dealt damage to regardless of whether or not it killed them. So much that it got nerfed to "Venomous" so that it would only work once.

** Another co-op brawl (Sensing a pattern?) is "A new Year's Bash", requiring players to take advantage of the new cards added over the course of the game. Much like other co-op brawls, this one requires you to read your opponent turned ally to try and take advantage of the mechanics. When the rogue places down a secret, you know that any card you play that turn will be added to their hand. Naturalize can be used to remove your own partygoers or the rogue's, do you send cards back to your hand to use their battlecries, or partygoers to get rid of them? Do you use Survival of the fittest to buff your minions, or do you wait until you can clinch it?

* GenreTurningPoint: The voice acting and visuals were outright revolutionary. Each individual minion has some kind of personality to them because of their voice acting, and the detailed battlegrounds and artwork made the game feel very much alive. It was the first card game to be ''immersive'', which was quite the draw. Every CardBattleGame since then has included these in the hopes of taking ''Hearthstone's'' crown, and among the fanbase they're mostly taken for granted nowadays.

** The game's barrier of entry is pretty steep, especially compared to more generous alternatives, but at the time of its release ''Hearthstone'' was the cheapest card game on the market by a massive margin due to both the in-game dust economy and the lower amount of cards needed for decks, as well as the fact that simple grinding could get you far. Over time, people decided that while it was cheap for a ''card'' game, it was too expensive for a ''video'' game, and despite efforts to reduce the barrier of entry via more free stuff and higher paying quests, the game's cost is still too much for some people.
