** After Johnny was the first DLC character announced for Season 3 of -STRIVE-, the general prediction was that Season 3 was going to be a roster full of returning known fan-favorites, including potential characters like Slayer, A.B.A, Robo-Ky, Jam or even Zappa. Then Elphelt Valentine was announced as the second character, and while Elphelt is by no means unpopular she is primarily remembered for being infuriating to play against. Thus, any and all predictions for the rest of Season 3 were thrown out the window.

** Faust's wheelchair super in -STRIVE- when used on Ramlethal. Yes, a wheelchair to the shins hurts no matter who it's used on, and it elicits some very humorous reactions, but the leg that Faust hits when he rams it into Ramlethal just so happens to be the one that's wrapped in bandages.

** Millia. In the first Guilty Gear. Next to the FinalBoss Justice, she was by far the cheapest character in the game, capable of throwing direction-changing projectiles and keeping you at hair's length. And her Iron Maiden super involved firing a myriad of slow-moving, large, homing projectiles that guaranteed you could never get anywhere close to her. And if her health dropped below 50%, she could spam that move forever. It was very difficult to get close to her, and there she was even more dangerous. Thankfully, she's never come close to that level of cheese since then, as she no longer has the old super and her projectiles work much differently now. Plus, her Iron Maiden is now a completely different move that's now her Instant Kill instead. Millia in X was still a top pick in tournaments.

Not only was this section full of natter, that bit about Johnny was definitely midly transphobic(why is he a "victim" of Bridget?) and also DEFINITELY a 5P violation. Johnny treats the Jellyfish Pirates like his adopted daughters and would never lay a hand on them, so potholing to Jailbait Taboo is super weird.

Another group I have noticed, even some trans people I have seen apparently hold these beliefs, so I figured it might have been worth mentioning.

** Bridget was reintroduced to the series after a long absence as part of VideoGame/GuiltyGearStrive DLC in August 2022, and part of her CharacterDevelopment is her coming out as a transgender woman. While this garnered a lot of love from the LGBTFanbase for how respectully her transition arc was portrayed and being a role model for real-life transgender women (espeically those who were introduced to the series prior to coming out), there is also considerable pushback against this development as well, whether it's due to accusations of PanderingToTheBase or simply liking her pre-transition presentation better for being a depiction of a WholesomeCrossdresser who isn't fetishized or reduced to a one-note joke. There are also those who raise concerns over how well the whole thing was actually executed with her pre-existing backstory already making her a trans metaphor in the opposite, transmasculine direction, which the new story throws a spanner in the works of, with some even going so far as thinking that it creates some unfortunate undertones.

Even among those who are otherwise fine with Bridgets transition there are those who take issue with Daisuke's statements after the fact that Bridget was always meant to be trans, seeing it as disingenuous and not really helping when all other evidence point to the contrary.

Playable characters in a fighting game can't count for this trope; it has to be someone minor who doesn't have the importance of a dedicated story

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Bridget. Through the sheer power of MemeticMutation, she quickly became one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise, especially in Japan where she even outranks other very popular characters around the world like Dizzy, Baiken, Johnny, Slayer, and even Elphelt from the more recent entries. It's to the point where Bridget and her backstory were how many people even became aware of Guilty Gear in the first place. With each new character popularity poll, Bridget consistently topped several of the lists, so when it was finally confirmed that Bridget would become the first character of -STRIVE-s second DLC season, the fandom erupted in joy. The later reveal that Bridget has come around to identifying as a trans woman attracted even more eyes to the series, in part due to the representation she provided.
** Robo-Ky. Despite being Ky's evil robot twin, wearing the same clothes and even copying some of his moveset, Robo-Ky earned a distinct, separate identity and a lot of love.
** Within minutes of seeing footage of him, fans immediately proclaimed their adoration of Xrd story NPC Leo Whitefang. He was confirmed as DLC. Cue fandom exploding. He grew to great importance in the main story, and returned for -STRIVE- as part of the default roster.
** And with the coming of Xrds Story Mode, President Gabriel turned into one of these, gaining a surprising amount of popularity after fans finally got to see his combat prowess.
** Let us not forget that Dizzy would've never have broken out if the fans haven't fallen in love with her since her days of Guilty Gear X.
** While moderately popular in previous installments, Baiken received a massive surge in popularity after her return in Xrd: Rev 2. She’s one of the most played characters both online and in arcades (mostly by new players), as well as gained tons of fan art. It probably helps that she had a noticeable redesign that drew a lot of newer fans to her.
** Goldlewis Dickinson quickly became a fan favorite in -STRIVE-, being a manly badass who wields a freaking armored coffin as a ball and chain, and considered one of the more memorable characters in the game despite not being playable until the first DLC. The fact that his conversations with Bridget helped her decide to come out also plays a role, partially because of the contrast of having a manly Secretary of (Absolute) Defense being so caring, relating to her TransTribulations, and being generally supportive of her trans identity.

Not sure if it is the best way to word it, but I felt it was an addition worth mentioning.

There are also those who raise concerns over how well the whole thing was actually executed with her pre-existing backstory already making her a trans metaphor and the new story throwing a spanner in the works, some even going so far as thinking that it creates some unfortunate undertones.

** Thanks to a Tumblr post about someone getting her name wrong, fans affectionately refer to Bridget as "Brisket".

Similarly, the Japanese fandom calls her "Buri" as both a pun on how her name would be Romanized (Burijitto) and a nickname for a popular fish in Japanese seafood cuisine.
