* NightmareFuel: Sinestro as drawn by Ethan Van Sciver, especially during Green Lantern: Rebirth, kind of dips with the intentional High Octane Nightmare Fuel.

* HypeBacklash: [[Film/GreenLantern The movie]] was supposed to be DC's response to ''Film/IronMan''. But it wound up not having a good response from critics, fans and general audiences alike.

* OneSceneWonder: Kilowog in the film.

* TheUntwist: In the 2011 film, a yellow ring is forged, and... [[spoiler:No one ever actually uses it. Sinestro is still with the Corps at the end and even ends up rescuing Hal after he collapses post-victory.]]

* BrokenBase: Fueled largely by DC, who shunted Hal Jordan and the rest of the Corps out of the spotlight to make way for Kyle Rayner, who himself was counter-shunted when Hal Jordan returned and Kyle became a supporting character.
** To say nothing of John Stewart's fanbase, largely earned from his role as the Green Lantern for the DCAU.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Many characters qualify, but Guy Gardner is the most notable due to the fact that DC tends to treat him as the black sheep of the Earth born Green Lanterns.
** Everybody loves Larfleeze, especially his [[Funny/ComicBooks dialog]].
** And who doesn't love Mogo?
* EthnicScrappy: Early [[TheSilverAgeOfComicBooks Silver Age]] Tom Kalmaku, then known as Pieface, a slang term for Inuits.
* GeniusBonus: Sinestro is usually depicted as wearing his ring on his left hand. For those unfamiliar with Italian (or Latin), the masculine for "sinister" is "sinistro", which means on the left hand, but also wrong, perverse, unfavorable, etc etc etc.
* HilariousInHindsight: Flash once had a villain called the Rainbow Raider, who could make hard-light rainbows and induce emotions in people by coloring them. Sadly, the only time he's been used since the emotional spectrum was developed was as yet another Black Lantern.
** Which involves some FridgeBrilliance when you remember that Black Lanterns can only feed on the hearts of people if they are taken over by any emotion. And since he had emotion-inducing powers, this made it pretty easy for him.
* MagnificentBastard: The current version of Sinestro.
** Way before that, Sinestro was able to take control of Space Sector 3600 after telling the sector 1,001 tales to prove that the Guardians were weak, and together, they were able to destroy countless galaxies and destroyed Kilowog's rebuilt planet, until they were stopped by the Corps.
* MemeticBadass: In certain sections of the Internet, Rot Lop Fan is this, being a Green Lantern despite not even grasping the concept of "light" or "color" because his race sees with sound.
** Guy Gardner is a straighter example, one which would delight him immensely if he knew about it.
* MemeticMutation: Hal sure does get hit on the head a lot, doesn't he? Oh, and they all have nice butts.
** "Help me, Green Lantern. I have no arms." * PUNCH!*
** More recently, the color-coded rings have spawned a takeoff of the "Advice Dog" meme. Examples:

** Many readers (and a few writers) seem to have trouble forgetting that Kyle Rayner's girlfriend was the trope namer for StuffedInTheFridge, and his seeming parade of dead girlfriends has [[MemeticMutation become a source of dark humor amongst the fanbase]].
* OlderThanTheyThink: It's an FAQ where casual viewers confuse ''JusticeLeague'''s Green Lantern John Stewart with all others and ask "Isn't Green Lantern black?," even though Hal first appeared a dozen years before John.
* RootingForTheEmpire: Sinestro has been getting some attention in this manner recently, mainly due to him being a very charismatic villain and his arguments against the Guardians being too involved with their mysteries and prophecies to do an effective job policing the cosmos.

** Grant Morrison asked RonMarz "How would Rayner work in a team book as opposed to a solo one" the characters were very similar, and Kyle's era was a best seller until Ron Marz left the book. and by that time Morrison was no longer writing JLA. It would be BETTER to say he became a Scrappy during the JuddWinick / BenRaab Era and Ron Marz and GeoffJohns rescued him from the Scrappy Heap. The only people to whom he was ever a scrappy were [[BrokenBase die-hard Hal Jordan fans]]. Kyle Rayner was the was the star of the Green Lantern book for ten years, and thus had an entire generation of ''his own fans'' who couldn't care less about Hal Jordan and thus never saw him as TheScrappy in the first place. To those fans, it was Hal Jordan, and not Kyle Rayner, who was RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap.

** Karu-Sil. Her method of instilling fear? She kills parents and steals their infant children for herself.

* Mongul II. His causal and completely needless murder of Miri Riam's husband really stands out. To put things in perspective, his dad was at best a MagnificentBastard and at worst a CompleteMonster; Mongul II is an all-around monster who killed his sister so he wouldn't bother him, killed Miri's husband even though the guy would let him snack on their food, not to mention what he was going to do to Mother Mercy.

* CharacterDerailment: G'nort was brought back after years of absence in a "DarkerAndEdgier" incarnation in the rather awful miniseries, ''Guy Gardner: Collateral Damage'', in which his homeworld was destroyed in the [[InfiniteCrisis Rann-Thanagar War]]. It was supposed to make him look like he TookALevelInBadass, but it just came off as stupid. Thankfully, the events of that story seem to have become CanonDiscontinuity.

* CompleteMonster: A lot of the known Sinestro Corps members do not seem to have any redeeming or positive qualities, neither are most of them AffablyEvil or EvillyAffable. Just read their biographies. No suprise there as they're supposed to spread fear.
** Romat-Ru is probably ''the'' worst the Corps has to offer. He's even regarded as "the vilest being in the galaxy"

** Romat-Ru. He killed thousands of fucking ''children''.

* UnpleasableFanbase: When Hal was killed, people complained and hated Kyle Rayner as a ReplacementScrappy. He's been resurrected and is the star of most GL storylines, causing people to complain he's too much of a GaryStu, and asking for more focus on Kyle and the other human GL[=s=].
** Something of note is [[WordOfGod both Geoff Johns and Ron Marz feel]] that if Kyle and Hal heard people arguing about which was better they would thrash them all. Both feel the argument is silly and Marz has gone on record to say that he doesn't have ANY problem with where Kyle is now.

*** Kyle becoming SO DISTURBED by Terry Berg being beaten to within an inch of his life that he went Batman on some thugs and then LEFT EARTH! Girlfriend murdered? He can deal! Close encounters with galactic destruction and other horrible things? Big deal? Gay-bashing? WELP THAT'S THE LINE I GUESS.
*** Jade in the Raab era, going from faithful girlfriend to cheating on Kyle with another man within the span of 2 months. See, she was upset because Kyle was off-planet. Of course, she had superpowers too and she could visit him whenever she wanted, but that doesn't count because... just because.
*** Merayne, Former Darkstar and lover of John Stewart, reduced to a stupid idiot who couldn't do office work despite having been on earth for years working as John's assistant. Then she decided to leave John for no reason, despite having left the Darkstars to be with him. Then, to top it off, she ''encouraged'' Jade to cheat.
*** Terry Berg taking up pages at a time during Kyle's "adventures" in space during the Raab Run to do nothing but snog his boyfriend.
*** Giving the Green Lantern book to Ben Raab. Period.

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: I know the character has been around since the silver age, but nothing Hal Jordan does will ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER top flooring {{Batman}} with one punch.
** LarryNiven wrote the GreenLantern writing bible and some stories. Notably one where Red shifting was abused to take down Sinestro.
* CrowningMomentOfFunny: In contrast with the above CMOA... nothing will ever, ever, ever, EVER top {{Batman}} flooring Guy Gardner with one punch. It even got a ShoutOut in BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold!
* CrowningMomentOfHeartWarming: Coast City gets one during the Sinestro Corps War by its citizens refusing to leave their newly built home and instead shine green lights in their windows to support the Green Lanterns, even Hal's overly cautious brother, Jim, refuses to flee with his family. It mixes with crowning moment of awesome too.
