The series' namesake and the main nuisance of the high school theatre department. She is cast in ensemble in Beauty and the Beast (specifically "Fork #5") and as Heather Duke in Heathers, before losing both due to getting kicked out for hostile behaviour. She's highly obnoxious, annoying, and deludedly believes herself to be a theatre prodigy. All of this comes at the major aggravation of the cast, crew, and both directors who are all sick to death of her awful attitude.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Blue isn't terrible on the eyes but her abhorrent qualities are obvious the second she opens her mouth. She has a crush on Elliot that she doesn’t even attempt to hide, acting overly familiar with him, asking if he wants to "practise" the kiss scene with her, and even holding him up backstage on opening night, right before his entrance, to confess her feelings.
* GiftedlyBad: Dear God, Blue is this trope in spades. Despite being unable to carry a tune even after three years of “classical training” (read: her refusing to accept any kind of critique during her lessons so her vocal coach simply ends up telling her she’s good in exchange for a hefty hourly fee from her mother - it’s later revealed that Blue can’t even sing the solfège properly), Blue remains convinced that she is the most talented actress, dancer, and singer in the whole theatre department, already fit for Broadway. In Season 2, she harps on about her own all-original musical that she claims will sweep the Tonys.
* HateSink: You'd be hard-pressed to find a single redeeming feature in Blue - she seldom goes a single scene without doing or saying something insufferable. Her overwhelming narcissism, entitlement, and disrespect make her extremely aggravating to be around. Her audacity to put down other actors for getting bigger parts than her and even dredging up Jake’s bad home life make hating her far too easy. Part of why the whole series is so engaging is because of how satisfying it is to watch her get taken down several pegs.
* Jerkass: Blue is entitled, disrespectful to her fellow cast and the tech crew, and delusional of her own abilities to boot.
* NeverMyFault: Despite 99% of things not going her way being the result of her poor behaviour and lack of talent, Blue will blame everything and everyone but herself for the problems she is causing, from “favouritism” from the director to all the other cast members being jealous of her “talent” - anything but the fact that she is sorely tone deaf.
* SpoiledBrat: Has been given everything by her mother, including expensive vocal lessons (that aren’t really lessons at all), and expects everyone in the theatre department to respect her as the theatre prodigy she and her mother believe her to be. Even further when she attempts to bribe the director of Heathers for the role of Kurt after she was kicked out.
* You'reJustJealous: Practically Blue's mantra, stating repeatedly that the only reason people are hostile towards her is because they're "so jealous of me!"

The girl who plays Belle in Beauty and the Beast and Veronica in Heathers. Anna is the ingenue of the theatre department. She's kind, helpful, and typically is the source of the least drama out of the whole cast.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Anna is generally mild-mannered and kind to everyone, but when Blue makes a low blow about Jake’s family issues at the end of Season 1, Anna straight up slaps her in the middle of Denny’s. While she hasn't done it in Season 2 (yet), she speaks openly of doing it again after Blue brings up Jake's family.
* NoFullNameGiven: Averted - the director of Beauty and the Beast makes an announcement during opening night thanking all the donors to the theatre department, singling out Anna's two mothers as "the Berry family", making her the only character with a confirmed first and last name.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Anna expresses feeling bad for Blue having such an awful mother (and attitude) at times during Beauty and the Beast, though it's relatively short-lived.
* YouLeaveHimAlone!: She's been longtime friends with Jake and he spends most of his time at her house, so she knows all about his family issues and takes it to heart when Blue makes shots at him for it.

The guy who is cast as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast and as Ram, and later Heather Duke, in Heathers. Jake is Anna's longtime friend and fellow theatre kid. He's boisterous, confident, and intensely loyal to his friends and the theatre department, in spite of his crappy home life.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: As if being a boy in theatre for a long time wasn’t enough, Jake says, “What if we were?” in response to a statement from Blue about him and Anna and Elliot NOT being out on a date. In addition to this, he is well-practised in makeup and even teaches Elliot how to put it on (though Anna still has to do his mascara for him every show).
** Veering further into WMG/YMMV territory, Jake reveals in a rant that his family "doesn't accept [him]" and doesn't like him being in theatre. It's not a far stretch to guess that he might be gay or bi and that his family might be homophobic, so his coming out to them caused them to reject him. This is especially compelling as musical theatre is an activity stereotypically associated with gay males.
* GeekPhysiques: Blue mocks him for his role of Gaston at one point, saying that he's wrong for the role because he's not very big and doesn't work out. While it's uncalled for, this isn't unlikely given that Jake dedicates most of his time to theatre as opposed to sports.
* TenorBoy: Jake's main archetype in the theatre group - he is more comfortable singing in a higher register than is classic for men, as shown by when he sings for Heather Duke (though this most likely due to being played by a woman). Subverted by his getting the baritone role of Gaston.

“Beast”/Elliot
The guy who plays Beast in Beauty and the Beast and Kurt, and later Heather McNamara, in Heathers. A high school jock who ends up in the cast almost by accident after auditioning as a joke. Though initially shy and self-conscious about performing, Elliot comes to enjoy his lead role a lot with the help of his new friends, Anna and Jake. He is also Blue's crush, though he unequivocally does NOT reciprocate her feelings.
___
- Fake-Real Turn: Played with - Elliot says he initially auditioned for Beauty and the Beast as a joke with his friends, yet ends up landing the role of Beast. Over the course of the series, he comes to really care about the show and grows as a performer with the help and support of longtime theatre kids Anna and Jake. He enjoys it so much that he comes back for the next show and even invites his friend to audition for it too.
- Nice Guy: He is generally very polite and agreeable to everyone, even saying to Blue that he thinks she could be cool while gently turning down her advances.

“Sunflower”
Blue's so-called "best friend", who is a lot like her in a milder flavour. She is cast in the ensemble alongside Blue in Beauty and the Beast (even taking Blue's lines after Blue was kicked out) and as Ms Fleming in Heathers, before losing both due to being kicked out for either destroying costumes or for failing to show up to rehearsal, respectively. On top of being Giftedly Bad, she's also catty, manipulative, and tries to talk and lie her way out of the bad situations she puts herself and Blue in. She is never given a name or even a nickname like Blue, only being called "Sunflower" for the sake of this page due to her always wearing a sunflower sweater.
- Faux Affably Evil: Though less loud and outwardly obnoxious than Blue, and at least has the sense to not badmouth in front of the director, Sunflower is just as bad as her, if not arguably worse morally. She cuts up Belle’s gloves shortly before opening night of Beauty and the Beast, purely to frame Blue for it, and later on opening night gives Blue a mic that she’s stolen from the sound booth and gives her the idea to barge on stage and sing (Many viewers have called her and Blue the same character, Sunflower is just in a more subdued font).
- Hidden Agenda Villain: Most of Sunflower’s actions are tantamount to making Blue, her so-called “best friend”, look bad in favour of herself getting ahead. Which would make sense … except that Blue does a stellar job of looking and behaving badly enough to get kicked out of shows all on her own, making Sunflower’s contribution rather superfluous and her motives ambiguous.

Belle’s Understudy/“Heather Chandler”
Another talented girl in the theatre department, as shown by her getting cast as Belle's understudy in Beauty and the Beast and Heather Chandler in Heathers. She is cool-headed, calm, and mostly stays out of drama until it comes her way.
-

Blue’s Mother
The epitome of an entitled "Karen" parent. She spoils her daughter to no end and enables her bratty behaviour by barging into rehearsals to have it out with the director, making life a living hell for the cast and crew. It's not hard to see where Blue got her attitude from.
- Parental Obliviousness: Zigzagged - Blue's mother doesn't seem to be aware of the full extent of her daughter's awful behaviour and attitude due to being painted an inaccurate picture by Blue, hence why she staunchly defends her. Yet even when she IS fully aware, she outright excuses and even encourages it.
- Stage Mom: Subverted slightly in that her daughter is NOT reluctant in the slightest to perform (unlike in the classic version of this trope), but is otherwise one of the worst examples of this. She will stop at NOTHING to convince others that her daughter is a theatre prodigy, from paying a vocal coach at least $200 per hour (and rising) so she won't give Blue ANY critique on her singing, to barging into auditions and rehearsals to breathe down the directors' necks and give them an earful about “attacking” her daughter, to enabling her daughter to interfere backstage and climb onstage during the opening night of Beauty and the Beast. It gets to the point where even Blue seems to start to realise that her mother’s interference is hurting more than helping.

The Stage Manager
The manager of tech and the behind the scenes crew for both productions. She is no-nonsense, fair, and prepared to deal with (almost) anything. Having put up with two whole shows of Blue's antics, she absolutely refuses to take any more from her or from anyone else.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Arguably the MOST reasonable in the whole series. She doesn't take ANYONE's poor behaviour or decisions, whether it be from Blue or from the rest of the cast or even the director(s). When Madison suggests adding Blue and Sunflower back into Heathers to fill the roles of Kurt and Ram, the stage manager is the one to unequivocally shut down the notion of letting Blue back in the show.

Season 1 only

Director #1
The director of Beauty and the Beast. She is patient and fair, yet has little tolerance for Blue or her mother's poor behaviour.
___
- Put on a Bus: Left the series after Beauty and the Beast for “a department with a budget”. Though it’s much more likely she just wanted to get as far away from Blue and her mother as possible …

Season 2

Madison
The girl playing JD in Heathers. Madison new girl to the theatre department, though certainly not to theatre in general. She has previously worked on professional shows and has an impressive resume for her age. She inhabits a grey area likeability-wise, at first appearing affable but slowly letting more unlikeable traits show through.
___
- Nepotism: Revealed to be the new director’s niece, therefore is more prone to landing lead parts and having her suggestions listened to even at the expense of the show.
- The Prima Donna: Madison insists that her JD costume doesn’t fit and that the costume designer must’ve messed up her measurements … while refusing to put the costume on in front of her to show her what’s wrong.

Director #2
The director of Heathers. She arrives at the department after Director #1 is Put on a Bus, having previously watched the department's last show with Madison.
___
-
Elliot’s Friend
A male friend Elliot had invited to audition for Heathers after Elliot told how how much fun the last show was. He is cast as Heather McNamara in Heathers before getting recast as Kurt during all the role shuffling. He is never given a name and puts in the bare minimum effort the whole way through.
___
- Cloudcuckoolander: It’s understandable that he’s not familiar with rehearsal or theatre etiquette, being his first show, but he doesn’t prepare a song to an audition for a musical, misses many rehearsals to the point where his role needs to be recast, and barely reacts even when the director is admonishing him for ordering pizza during rehearsal.
- Prank Date: Asked Blue out as a joke before the events of Season 2. She calls him her "ex" and claims that he's auditioning for Heathers to get back with her, even though they had only "dated" for 8 days and he really couldn't care less about their "relationship".
Ivy
The girl who is cast as Martha in Heathers. She is quiet and rather timid, so she often gets overlooked in rehearsals through all the drama and shouting, but she grows closer with the main cast after Anna invites her to hang out with them after rehearsals.
___
- Nice Girl: Is very soft-spoken, agreeable, and shy, fitting her role of Martha in Heathers.

Out of universe, this is entitled, disrespectful to her fellow cast almost exactly what ended up happening with Emily and the tech crew, series as a whole, with it starting off with short comedy skits before taking the suggestions of viewers and delusional of putting serious time and effort into producing a fully realised webseries, all on her own abilities own. The guy who is cast as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast and as Ram, and later Heather Duke, in Heathers. Jake is Anna's longtime
** Elliot’s friend and fellow theatre kid. He's boisterous, confident, and intensely loyal to his friends and the theatre department, in spite of his crappy home life.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: As if being a boy in theatre for a long time wasn’t enough, Jake says, “What if we were?” in response to a statement from Blue about him and Anna and Elliot NOT being
had previously asked her out on a date.
PrankDate. This is especially compelling as musical theatre is an activity stereotypically associated struck a nerve with gay males.viewers who had been victims of a similar prank.
* GeekPhysiques: Blue mocks him ** Her constantly interfering mother hurts her chances even more to the point where Anna expresses feeling bad for his role of Gaston at one point, saying that he's wrong for the role because he's not very big and doesn't work out. While it's uncalled for, this isn't unlikely given that her … though Jake dedicates most of his time to theatre as opposed to sports.doesn’t.
* TenorBoy: Jake's main archetype Moe: Elliot's inexperience and naiveté in the theatre group - he is more comfortable singing in a higher register than is classic for men, as shown by when he sings for Heather Duke (though this most likely due and willingness to being played by a woman). Subverted by his getting the baritone role of Gaston.

“Beast”/Elliot
The guy who plays Beast in
learn make him quite endearing.
* MoralEventHorizon: Sunflower cutting up Belle’s gloves during
Beauty and the Beast and Kurt, and later Heather McNamara, in Heathers.

She cuts up Belle’s gloves shortly before opening night of Beauty and the Beast, purely
attempting to frame Blue for it, and later on opening night gives a move so low that even Blue a mic that she’s stolen from the sound booth and gives her the idea to barge looks down on stage and sing (Many viewers have called her and her.
**
Blue the same character, Sunflower is just in a more subdued font).
- Hidden Agenda Villain: Most of Sunflower’s actions are tantamount to making Blue, her so-called “best friend”, look bad in favour of
herself getting ahead. Which would make sense … except hits this when she blames Jake’s anger towards her on his issues with his family mistreating him (as opposed to, yunno, her being obnoxious). It was around this time that Blue does a stellar job of looking fans stopped expecting/hoping for her to be redeemed.
* OneTrueThreesome: Many people ship Anna, Jake,
and behaving badly enough to get kicked out of shows all on her own, making Sunflower’s contribution rather superfluous and her motives ambiguous.

Belle’s Understudy/“Heather Chandler”
Another talented girl
Elliot in the theatre department, as shown by her getting cast as Belle's understudy in Beauty and the Beast and Heather Chandler in Heathers. She is cool-headed, calm, and mostly stays out of drama until it comes her way.a polycule.
-

Blue’s Mother
The epitome of an entitled "Karen" parent. She spoils
** This was the case for almost the whole series until Ivy joined the group and caught Elliot's attention. Some choose to ship her daughter to no end and enables her bratty behaviour by barging into rehearsals to have it out with Elliot, while others consider adding her to the director, making life a living hell for the cast and crew. It's not hard to see where polycule.
* ProtagonistTitleFallacy: Though
Blue got is the character the series is named after and is easily the most recognisable, she is undisputedly NOT the protagonist.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: Blue sings an “original” song for
her attitude from.
- Parental Obliviousness: Zigzagged -
musical about how she’s innocent and talented and how everyone hates her for it … and it’s on ukulele. The only difference is that Colleen Ballinger could actually sing.
** In addition to this,
Blue's mother 100% ORIGINAL MUSICAL that she is writing, directing, producing, and starring in is also apparently "jukebox" musical that includes Take Me or Leave Me from RENT.
* TakeThatScrappy!: Most of this series is built on Blue doing or saying something highly disrespectful, obnoxious, or catty, and getting called out for it by the other characters.
* TearJerker: Jake's breakdown about his family certainly qualifies as this. After Blue attempts to suggest that he's just projecting his family's poor treatment of him onto her, he explodes. He goes off about how his family never comes to see him in shows because they don't care about him and don't like or accept him being in them; how his family would never open their door to him if he was banging on it, causing him to spend most of his time at Anna's house; and overall
doesn't seem to be aware of the full extent of her daughter's awful behaviour care one little bit about him and attitude due to don't accept him for who he is. He yells that being painted an inaccurate picture by Blue, hence why she staunchly defends her. Yet even when she IS fully aware, she outright excuses and even encourages it.
- Stage Mom: Subverted slightly
in that her daughter is NOT reluctant in the slightest to perform (unlike in the classic version of this trope), but is otherwise one of the worst examples of this. She will stop at NOTHING to convince others that her daughter is a theatre prodigy, is ALL he has, the only thing that he can be proud of, and he's not going to sink to Blue's level and let her ruin it for him. During his rant, you can see and hear actual tears coming from paying a vocal coach at least $200 per hour (and rising) so she won't give Blue ANY critique on her singing, to barging into auditions and rehearsals to breathe down the directors' necks and give them an earful him that genuinely choke you up. Just ... remember when these were funny little skits about “attacking” her daughter, a girl with a blue wig?
* TheUnTwist: Many fans were expecting/hoping for Blue
to enabling her daughter to interfere backstage get a redemption arc from small nuggets seen near the beginning of Season 2, but it's been over a year since then and climb onstage during she's just as much a Hate Sink as before.
* TheWoobie: You feel sorry for a lot of
the opening night characters having to put up with Blue for most of Beauty the time, but it’s Jake that really takes the Woobie cake - it’s alluded to several times that his family never show up to any of the shows he’s in, but in Season 2 it’s revealed (in a heartfelt rant to Blue of all people) that his family doesn’t care one bit about him, doesn’t like him being in theatre, and the Beast. It gets ignore him to the point where even Blue seems they won't care to start to realise that her mother’s interference is hurting more than helping.

The Stage Manager
The manager of tech and the behind the scenes crew for both productions. She is no-nonsense, fair, and prepared to deal with (almost) anything. Having put up with two whole shows of Blue's antics, she absolutely refuses to take any more from her or from anyone else.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Arguably the MOST reasonable
let him in the whole series. She doesn't take ANYONE's poor behaviour or decisions, whether it be from Blue or from the rest of the cast or house even if he’s banging on the director(s). When Madison suggests adding Blue and Sunflower back into Heathers to fill the roles of Kurt and Ram, the stage manager is the one to unequivocally shut down the notion of letting Blue back door. Being in the show.

Madison new girl to the
theatre department, though certainly not to theatre in general. She is the ONLY thing he has previously worked on professional shows and has an impressive resume going for her age.

___
- Cloudcuckoolander: It’s understandable
him, that he’s not familiar with rehearsal or theatre etiquette, being his first show, but he doesn’t prepare a song to an audition for a musical, misses many rehearsals to the point where his role needs to be recast, and barely reacts even when the director is admonishing him for ordering pizza during rehearsal.
- Prank Date: Asked Blue out as a joke before the events of Season 2. She calls him her "ex" and claims that he's auditioning for Heathers to get back with her, even though they had only "dated" for 8 days and he really couldn't care less
passionate about their "relationship".
Ivy
The girl who is cast as Martha in Heathers. She is quiet
and rather timid, so she often gets overlooked in rehearsals through all the drama can be proud of. Yet, even that is constantly marred and shouting, but she grows closer with the main cast after Anna invites her even put in jeopardy by Blue’s actions, provoking him into acting poorly. It’s hard not to hang out with them after rehearsals.
___
- Nice Girl: Is very soft-spoken, agreeable, and shy, fitting her role of Martha in Heathers.
