* BrokenAesop: George's decision to not use anything from the medicine cupboard seems like a message to children about not playing around with harmful substances. All well and good except for the fact that many of the things he actually ''did'' use realistically would have killed Grandma anyway.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** Quentin Blake's wacky illustrations are especially funny here, particularly with [[{{Gonk}} Grandma]]. Her deranged expressions of shock and euphoria during her transformations are standout examples. "[[CloudCuckooLander Hallelujah, here I come]]!" indeed.
** The description for the flea powder says not to let the dog consume it, or the dog will "explode". George adds it anyway, saying to himself, "[[BlackComedy Good.]]" Later, when his father learns of this, he says, "You mean you put ''flea'' powder in!?".
** George's reason for adding the canary seed is because he thinks it might make Grandma sing.
** When George puts throat pills for horses into the medicine, he says, "Grandma may not have a hoarse throat, but she's certainly got a sharp tongue. Maybe it'll cure that instead."
** The pig pills warn that an overdose will make the pig "rock and roll".

* TheWoobie: George, and, to a lesser extent, his mother. George is routinely bullied and insulted by Grandma and has to be left alone with her a lot, and George's mother probably had to go through a whole childhood of it.

George's parents obviously have to go out, and he knows full well that every time they do and he can't, he will be left on his own with no one to keep him company but a grandmother who hates him, insults him at every opportunity, [[BreadMilkEggsSquick and has truly revolting eating habits, as she apparently likes eating insects]]. Poor kid.

** More generally, Grandma being allowed to be left home alone with George. George's parents obviously have to go out, and he knows full well that every time they do and he can't, he will be left on his own with no one to keep him company but a grandmother who hates him and insults him at every opportunity.
