** Almost every character in this film is a scrappy to someone else. For every fan a character has, they have twice as many haters.

* FridgeHorror: When Freddy discovers Jason's weakness to water, he adds insult to injury by showing the dismembered head of Jason's Mother in front of his child form. Now Jason is a GeniusBruiser when it comes to killing, everything else however he is not so smart. So when he sees his mother's head he comes to the logical conclusion (in his point of view.) that Freddy killed Mrs. Voorhees. When Freddy enters the real world, Jason even stops going after the others just to confront Freddy.

* CharacterDerailment: The film portrays Jason as greatly afraid of water, in spite of the fact that several past films (Final Chapter, VI, and VIII) have shown him to think very little of it. It could be potentially justified in this case though, as when Jason exhibits these fears, it's while he's facing Freddy in the dream world, who could possibly be increasing any subconscious fears Jason has to overpower him where they would otherwise have little to no effect on him in the real world.

** At the end of the day, as Freddy learned, Jason is always going to be a traumatized, disfigured little boy acting out over the loss of the one person who cared about him, while Freddy has always been a twisted sociopath who prolongs the suffering of his victims for his own pleasure.

-->Fifty million opening week, thank you, ladies and gentlemen.

* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Jason, of all people, comes off like this in the film, especially during his dream battle with Freddy. Most people root for him over Freddy, because at least he isn't a child molester.

It\'s used in-universe.

* ParanoiaFuel: Freddy's plan to regain his power hinges on the town of Springwood becoming afraid of him again, which is why he sends Jason to drum up a good dose of paranoia amongst the adults (which ends up trickling down to the town's teens) by killing people.
