The movie ends with Frances getting a job and apartment and making peace in her life, so clearly she's learned something. Also she's not a traditional "hero", she's just a realistically messy person. Most 27-year-olds are like that.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Frances is immature forever child who can't cope with real world and mature life, despite being almost 30 years old. And she's completely ignorant about that. Meanwhile Sophie matured long time ago and is more and more tired with Frances' childish behaviour, so she's moving out and distancing herself from her. Frances, being a SpoiledBrat, doesn't understand that at all, so [[NeverMyFault she's constantly blaming everyone around]] for her own failures and ''awful'' decisions. People are mean toward her, because ''everyone'' recognise reasons of her problems and rampant immaturity. And by the end she didn't learn anything from her experiences.

* DesignatedHero: Frances misadventures would be really funny... if she was a high-school graduate or college student. She's close to thirty and can't cope with ''anything'' around her, while just about [[HisOwnWorstEnemy all of her problems are caused by herself]] - yet the audience is supposed to sympathise with her and her self-induced issues. She whines about being poor but, at the same time, can afford a crazy and completely spontaneous trip to Paris at the drop of a hat. She wants to be a respected dancer, but does absolutely nothing to achieve that - not even regular training - and just complains. And she ''always'' has either an excuse or scrape goat to put the blame on. Ultimately, she comes across as self-centered and entitled, rather than endearing or, ''at least'', pitiful, but isn't vile enough to work as a VillainProtagonist - just an annoying AdultChild.

%%* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Frances, for those who want her to [[AdultChild grow the hell up]].

* LesYay: Lampshaded between Sophie and Frances, as they are life-long friends that were living as flat-mates for few years, to the point that people used to take them for a pair of lesbians already in-universe. It's very easy to interpret Frances' behaviour and feelings toward Sophie as those of a ClingyJealousGirl, trying to get her old flame back from the new partner.

* AwardSnub: Though Greta Gerwig got plenty of critical acclaim for the titular role, she ultimately missed out on an Oscar nomination (though she did snag a Golden Globe nom).

Had nothing to do with the definition of \"values dissonance.\" Try \"Designated Hero\" if you dislike the film\'s protagonist so much.
