** Chica's Magic Rainbow is practically Scott's love letter to Videogame/IWannaBeTheGuy, filled with clusters of flowers that shoot out razor petals with little room to evade them, butterflies that shoot lasers and spiky fences that cover half the screen and come out of nowhere. Not helping at all is the titular character, who will shoot a flurry of lasers at you at several points whilst being a condescending prick to you over the fact that you're more than likely to be terrible at it, and will cause a game over should your struggles piss her off too much. Your prizes for surviving all of this? [[spoiler: Scott's avatar Animdude or Chipper. Heck, you HAVE to beat Scott to even get to the Update 2 content]].

* CriticalDissonance: ''Oh dear god in heaven,'' probably the biggest example of this. Reception of the game was ''bad'', although this is again because Scott released the game a bit too early and later on pulled it off of Steam to work out the bugs. So far, the first impression is sadly leading to HypeBacklash. That being said, by the time Scott pulled it, the game's rating was ([[ArcNumber oddly enough]]) 87%.

* GameBreaker: RXQ (Shadow Bonnie), Funtime Foxy, Nightmare, and Spring Bonnie. Funtime Foxy and Spring Bonnie can do massive damage withe Cosmic Song while Funtime Foxy and RXQ can constantly revive their team using Gift Boxes. Nightmare has a debuffing move that can do damage, making Crying Child's buffing unneeded. Couple this with Auto:, Mimic, Auto: Shield, and all the Boss Drain bytes and you can virtually destroy any bosses in the game.

* InternetBackdraft: You know how Mangle has an AmbiguousGender and how the fandom constantly complains about it? This caused countless [[FlameWar flame wars]] in the fandom, due to the implication that the gender may ''never'' be confirmed, especially with the first version calling it the former. ** Even worse gameplay-wise, the early characters that you may wish to play with get outclassed by later ones with better moves and such. You want to play as Freddy for the rest of the adventure for instance? You'll have a hard time using him later down the line then! It's even more apparent with the new area in Update 2, in which the enemies are so strong and your health is drained so rapidly you need the newer characters to get through.

As someone who actually read most of the reviews, the trollish reviews were in the minority, even if they were the ones most upvoted. Even a lot of Recommended reviews said that the game had serious flaws.

** It was suspected that the Hatedumb was also responsible for this. Most of the negative reviews it got were very troll-like (as well as clocking in the game about 0.01 hours, meaning the reviews played it under a minute) and all of those were upvoted as "Helpful" while the opposite occurred for any positive ones. It's further hinted on the Steam forums, which had over ''2,000'' threads that were mostly filled with very savage comments towards Scott, the game and the fanbase at the time when the game was still available for purchase.

* FanonDiscontinuity: A select group of people refuse to accept the existence of the female Phantom Mangle screen, since the male one came first. Their interpretation is that it only exists due to FandomBacklash. This kinda stopped when it was changed so it switches from back and forth.

* InternetBackdraft: Ya know Mangle? How they have an AmbiguousGender? Well, the day the game came out, the loading screen for Phantom Mangle called them male, and it was at first believed to finally be confirmed. The new updates made an alternate version of that loading screen was added that calls Phantom Mangle female. This caused countless [[FlameWar flame wars]] in the fandom, due to the implication that the gender may ''never'' be confirmed. On top of that, people are now arguing over Scott's ''motivation'' for making that other screen. Mainly, the male side of the argument says he only did it due to somebody having threatened ''suicide'' over Mangle being male the day before, and has taken to bashing the other side and ranting at them for their negative reaction. This is in spite of Scott not confirming the reason as to why he decided to keep the gender unknown.

* AwesomeMoments:
** A mild one for Scott: with 2016 finally beginning, Scott has officially ''defeated his infamous ScheduleSlip [[InvertedTrope inversion]]!'' [[note]][[SubvertedTrope Initially, at least.]][[/note]]
** Another moment for Scott. After the negative feedback due to missing features and buggy programming, Scott admitted to releasing the game early. So he removed the game from Steam, offered refunds to anyone that bought it, and is going to release the fixed version for ''free''. Even some of FNAF's most ardent haters have admitted some respect for him owning up to his mistake in a really unexpected turn.
* AwesomeMusic:
** The game's soundtrack was specially composed for it (as opposed to the various royalty-free tracks used in the other games), and it fits the tone well. The battle theme (one of the first tracks to be announced) is one highlight.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eccezr2H67o The final boss music]] also qualifies, as a fitting and climatic song accompanying a final confrontation between your teams and [[spoiler:[[GodIsEvil Scott Cawthon.]] and [[spoiler:Chica's Magic Rainbow]] in Update 2.

** The next teaser, [[spoiler:showing BB completely ripped to shreds save for his head, was depressing enough, but the fact that everyone was so... indifferent to it after so many fans had completely freaked out about the hanging Mangle is rather sad.]]
** Funtime Foxy's loading screen message, especially [[BodyHorror given]] [[ForegoneConclusion its]] [[BreakTheCutie implications]].
--> ''It wasn't meant to last.''
** The fact that as cute as the game is, [[spoiler:there are no "good" endings. All of them are either [[DownerEnding downers]], {{Mind Screw}}s, {{Gainax Ending}}s, or all of the above.]]
** As of Update 2, starting a new game+ after getting all the other endings will cause Fredbear to become surprisingly somber mid-sentence. It's not even the [[spoiler:strange glitchy 8-bit Fredbear]]. It's just him lamenting that there's nothing else you can really do, and that their creator is still making things, his latest venture legitimately worrying them considering how long he's been working on it non-stop and refuses to even elaborate as to what it is.

* TheyJustDidntCare: Having an RPG with no item descriptions, visible stats, an extremely minimal overworld, loading for almost every action, and little to no dialogue at the initial launch? That's not good for any RPG, and to many, it was inexcusable, especially since Scott made several games in this genre in the past. To Scott's credit, he owed up to his mistakes and quickly patched most of the features in a day later. This apparently got subvert with Update 1 and it's now released as freeware, but it would have been better for him to spend his time on it in the first place instead of releasing a bare-bones product so early.

** Another moment for Scott. After the negative feedback due to missing features and buggy programming, Scott admitted to releasing the game early, and is going to release the fixed version for free. Even FNAF's most ardent haters have admitted some respect for him owning up to his mistake.

* CriticalDissonance: ''Oh dear god in heaven,'' probably the biggest example of this. Reception of the game was ''bad'', although this is again because Scott released the game a bit too early and later on pulled it off of Steam to work out the bugs. So far, the first impression is sadly leading to HypeBacklash...
** That said, by the time Scott pulled it, the game's rating was (oddly enough) 87%. There was apparently enough to enjoy that the bugs were a small price to pay.

The next day, however, an alternate version of that loading screen was added that calls Phantom Mangle female.

That's not good for any RPG, let alone this one, and to many, it was utterly pathetic, especially since Scott made several games in this genre in the past. To Scott's credit, he owned up to his mistakes and quickly patched most of the features in a day later. ** Even worse, some early characters that you may wish to play with get outclassed by later ones with better moves and such. You want to play as Freddy for the rest of the adventure for instance? You'll have a hard time using him later down the line then! It's even more apparent with the new area in Update 2, in which the enemies are so strong and your health is drained so rapidly you need the newer characters to get through.

** The teaser for Update 2 informs that we can actually play as [[spoiler:the Purple Guy AND Scott Cawthon. ]]Let that sink for a moment.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Lolbit. They're an orange-and-purple PaletteSwap of Funtime Foxy with GlowingEyesOfDoom like Marionette and Golden Freddy. Their only role is to sell items to the player, and yet they seem ''just'' as popular to draw as the original Foxy!
** Plus, being a recolor of [[AmbiguousGender Mangle]] and all, they've been drawn as both genders.
