To this end, Scorpion manipulates Centipede and his comrade the Snake (who is a villain only because of his loyalty to Centipede) into assaulting a household to locate the treasure; the two slaughter everyone except one, with Centipede [[ColdBloodedTorture violently torturing]] the last survivor before killing him. Scorpion and Centipede later pin the crime on the heroic Toad and have him tortured and killed before eliminating any witnesses to the crime. Scorpion sets up Centipede and Snake to face the heroic Lizard as well as the final student of the Venom Clan, so that he can exterminate all who know of him and take the treasure for himself. When Scorpion betrays Snake and strikes him down, Centipede simply takes Scorpion's side in the coming duel with the heroes. Both men are driven by nothing more than an insatiable {{greed}} and their own egos.
