* HarsherInHindsight: A Meta one. When Gametrailers Live was viewing the {{E3}} 2015 trailer, they considered it what they could say was the greatest E3 they'd ever see. A few months later, everyone there was out of a job, as Gametrailers closed down. They survived only just long enough to see Square Enix finally admit to the remake.

** The announcement that the game will be released in multiple parts has been mixed. Alleviated somewhat in that each part should be the equivalent of a full length Final Fantasy title, as well as clarifying it was being developed with multiple parts in mind from the start. How long each part is, and how much each one will cost, is still a point of contention however.

per cleanup thread http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=14667066520A94266400&page=1 "short-term conflicts that are quickly forgotten don't count. Corollary: Conflicts about upcoming works based on previews, trailers, and speculation are short-term by definition and should be cut on sight."

* BrokenBase:
** The ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' style ActionRPG battle system has caused a rift between those who think it looks awesome and those who wanted a remake that was far more faithful to the original gameplay. Some have pointed out that the menu on the HUD had a "Block" option. In {{ActionRPG}}s, blocking is usually done with the push of a button, so it's possible that the game could be adopting a ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII''-esque battle system where it's turn-based, but the player still has free movement.
** A question on the lips of many: will there be an option to [[ItWasHisSled spare Aerith from her inevitable fate]], and moreover, ''should'' there be? Supporters say the opportunity to right one of gaming's most famous wrongs (and acknowledge one of [[UrbanLegendOfZelda the greatest legends of gamer culture]]) is too good to pass up; opponents say it would [[BrokenAesop irreparably mess with the story's message]], cause quite a lot of inconsistencies[[note]]as Aerith's death is necessary in order for her to become an active force in the lifestream which ultimately helps to stop the meteor and convinces the planet to not wipe out humanity[[/note]], and take up resources best allocated elsewhere[[note]]since, assuming she can be saved at the exact point she died in the original, it would require the creation of not just an alternate ending but an entire alternate second half[[/note]]. The "against" side tends to win the debates, but they persist nonetheless.
** The announcement that the game will be released in an episodic format didn't please everyone. One side argues that this will allow the game to be released quicker that way, and with chances of including more content overall such as new sidequests, bosses, optional locales and story elements to fill the episodes. The other points out that it could lead to quite a few problems, such as the final price of the whole game, the impossibility to backtrack to some areas if episodes are too independant from each other, or sidequests which may be cut altogether.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
Those arguments work both ways; there's also a big chance that they'll actually ADD stuff to the game and change other sidequests to fit the episodic format, instead of cutting stuff (Which IMO wouldn't make sense, anyway). Instead, this entry makes it sound like the remake is going to have the exact same content as the original, which would defeat the entire purpose of a remake. I understand being worried about that part, but let's mention fair points for both sides instead of focusing on only one.

** Come the 2014 Playstation Expo 2014. SquareEnix come on stage and announce a remastered release of Final Fantasy 7, with 1080p original Playstation graphics, to universal derision. Around six months later, at E3, after an even more derisory CuteEmUp version of the Final Fantasy formula... They reveal that the 2014 announcement was, more than likely, to completely obfuscate leaks of THIS game...
*** Considering the terrible problem with leaks in the media nowadays, they were SUCCESSFUL. The entire fanbase, as one, couldn't believe it WAS the much requested remake until the final seconds of the trailer!

** The switch to a more action oriented gameplay led players who preferred the Active-Time Battle (ATB) system from the original to become rather wary.

** A question on the lips of many: will there be an option to [[ItWasHisSled spare Aerith from her inevitable fate]], and moreover, ''should'' there be? Supporters say the opportunity to right one of gaming's most famous wrongs (and acknowledge one of [[UrbanLegendOfZelda the greatest legends of gamer culture]]) is too good to pass up; opponents say it would [[BrokenAesop irreparably mess with the story's message]], cause quite a lot of inconsistensies (as Aerith's death is necessary in order for her to become an active force in the lifestream which ultimately helps to stop the meteor and convinces the planet to not wipe out humanity), and take up resources best allocated elsewhere. The "against" side tends to win the debates, but they persist nonetheless.

** The announcement that the game will be released in multiple parts has not been well received at all. This has been alleviated somewhat in that each part should be the equivalent of a full length Final Fantasy title, as well as clarifying it was being developed with multiple parts in mind from the start. How long each part is, and how much each one will cost, is still a point of contention, however.
