* BrokenBase / ContestedSequel: The ''Real Bout'' games versus the mainline titles. The first entry was by all means an UpdatedRerelease of ''Fatal Fury 3'', but ''Real Bout Special'' and especially ''2: The Newcomers'' are found by some fans to not be as "pure" as the original games, while others think their looser gameplay, more freeform combos and specials, and overhauled difficulty make them far more approachable. The ArtShift to a more distinct anime style with Special also turned some heads different ways, and set the stage for ''Garou: Mark of the Wolves''.

* SpiritualSuccessor: Sharing the same lead designer as the original VideoGame/StreetFighterI, Fatal Fury is effectively a closer successor in terms of game design and narrative focus than the actual VideoGame/StreetFighterII. Ironically, Fatal Fury 2 would adopt more elements of the latter (particularly the more international stage design) than later games would.

** Geese Howard's first name is the plural for "goose". Unsurprisingly - [[FeatheredFiend especially considering these birds' reputation as nasty pieces of work prone to pecking anyone who looks at them funny]] - there are '''many''' pieces of FanArt where Geese is [[https://i.redd.it/3aici2499h101.jpg portrayed as a goose]] or [[https://i.redd.it/8gqhwukbk0q31.jpg otherwise associated with geese]], and a few [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q81ptFSA4mk videos]] where his lines are dubbed over footage of geese attacking people.

* PolishedPort: The SNES ports of ''2'' and ''Special'' by Takara do a very admirable job of squeezing the arcade games onto 16-bit cartridges.

* MostAnnoyingSound:
** REPPUKEN! REPPUKEN! REPPUKEN! DOUBLE REPPUKEN!
** Mai wails "An-DYYYYYYYY!!" when she gets KO'd. It can be pretty [[CuteButCacophonic hard on the ears.]]
** The "OOOOOOOUUUUUUAAAAAAAAGH" sound Andy makes when you hit him. Not so prevalent here but it cropped up quite a bit in early ''KOF'' titles. It got ridiculous in ''[='99=]'' onward where for no apparent reason they made it ''his KO cry''. You will hear this especially in ''2002'' and ''[[UpdatedRerelease Unlimited Match]]'', where he groans this practically ''every time you hit him''.

* DuelingGames: ''Garou: Mark of the Wolves'' is effectively SNK's ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'', both being beautifully-animated 2D fighting games based on their earliest fighting franchises, being the final chronological game in their respective series, ditching the old roster in favor of a new generation of fighters with only a few (or in ''Garou''[='s=] case, just one) holdover, and even featuring similar mechanics with parrying and Just Defenses.

Corrected the Narm entry. Terry didn't turn to alcohol because he lost, it was because Krauser could have killed him. The realization that he was spared left him in abject fear of Krauser, which Terry openly admits to Joe when he pays Terry's bail. Terry also admits it to Krauser, himself, right before their rematch.

* {{Narm}}: Come on, the anime movies are full of this. From Terry's ridiculously exaggerated HeroicBSOD and resulting alcoholism because he lost ''ONE FIGHT'' in the second film, to the indescribably cheesy ending music in the third one.

Howard is the infamous crime boss of Southtown and the most prolific villain in the {{Creator/SNK}} library. Desiring power at a young age, Geese trained at the Hakkyokuseiken school of martial arts, while steadily developing connections to Southtown's mafia through bribery and intimidation tactics, culminating in him overthrowing reigning kingpin Mr. Big and becoming the police chief of the city, with every cop and politician in his pocket. [[VideoGame/ArtOfFighting He then]] began hosting the King of Fighters tournament series to find worthy henchmen, strong-armed renowned martial artist Takuma Sakazaki into working for him, and vengefully murdered his rival Jeff Bogard. Despite suffering setbacks due to defeats at the hands of Ryo Sakazaki and Terry Bogard, Geese always recovers, and when Terry finally beats him for good and [[SaveTheVillain tries to save him]] from ''Fatal Fury: [[TheMovie The Motion Picture]]'' also qualifies, even if [[spoiler:he's possessed by Mars]].plummeting to his death, Geese chooses to fall as a final act of spite, laughing all the way down. For all his misdeeds, Geese never loses his trademark swagger, and so great is his popularity that in [[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters an alternate timeline]], he survives and continues to plot behind the scenes.
