* NintendoHard: The game is advertised as having a complex battle system where spamming normal attacks will result in game overs. Failure to pay attention to the unique mechanics of the game and the characters' unusual playstyles make the higher difficulties nearly impossible. The bosses and enemies are all balanced with the assumption that the player has been keeping up with crafting new gear, and even then, it's necessary to know when to guard and to learn each boss's personal gimmicks.

Someone called "TheLivingDrawing" claimed that in regards to GOW Odin "Maybe him not qualifying actually makes him a more realistic villain since Complete Monster doesn't exist IRL when people who are extremely evil but stil have very minor redeeming qualities do." This actually isn't true and Odin not qualifying actually doesn't make him a more realistic villain, there are villains approved based on another IRL person, as an example the Come and See villain based on Oskar Dirlewanger who also was extremely evil and also didn't have any redeeming qualities and even his friends thought so in fact. Complete Monster is just a subjective concept by TV Tropes, it isn't reflective of a writer's actual character writing because all characters don't qualify by default.

* PlayerPunch: At the top of Fort Delta, the party defeats Commander Rax, but not before Rax activates a mechanism where the party can open one prison cell, but the moment they do so, the other cells are filled with poison gas. No matter how hard the player tries to examine the room, there are no means of TakingAThirdOption. When spoken to, the prisoners will be horrified, but then tell the party that they'll be [[FaceDeathWithDignity content with whatever choice is made]]. When the player inevitably pulls a lever to open a cell, the screams of the unchosen prisoners can be heard. In the bonus dungeon, the player will have to fight Echo versions of the two Magi they didn't save, who will guilt trip the party throughout the fight.

** Dios and Mios can use the Detonate debuff, which damages the party is anyone's Detonate stacks expires or is purified. This alone isn't too bad, but it also makes it harder to get rid of their Static Cling debuff.

* ThatOneLevel: Sidamo Mountain has a heat exhaustion mechanic that reduces HP, MP, or TP every time the bar at the top of the screen fills up, making it painful to traverse the dungeon. Fortunately, there is one enemy-filled room that doesn't have this mechanic.

Purify no longer gives TP in the latest update, which means this Game Breaker is no more

* GameBreaker: It's possible to get Damien to regenerate TP easily by finding ways to reduce his MP cost, and then spamming Purify. This will allow him to spam Prayer and get the party's shields really high.

* CompleteMonster:
** [[BigBad Supreme Azael]], no longer caring for his fellow Magi, seeks to [[TheSocialDarwinist purge all humans and "weak" Magi]] in order to create a world for evil Blood Magi. Having spent centuries killing any potential successor to his position as Black Magic Supreme, Azael has his Council of Blood commit crimes all over the world in order to provoke the empire into enacting genocide on all Magi, all to kill off his current successor and any Magi who could oppose him. After identifying Minerva as his successor, Azael has her friend Miranda brainwashed to steal the dangerous COSMOS relic and threatens to torture Miranda if the heroes don't deliver Minerva to him. When the heroes confront Azael, he sadistically kills Miranda in front of them, [[BreakTheCutie traumatizing Minerva]] and causing her to lose control of her powers. After being cornered, Azael tricks the party into entering his soul, intending for his soul to [[TakingYouWithMe collapse on the party]] the moment they kill him.
** [[ANaziByAnyOtherName Empress Verona]], although an UnwittingPawn to Azael, exploits anti-Magi sentiment for her own cruel ambitions. She begins by stoking racism among her fanatically loyal army, convincing them that all Magi are dangerous Blood Magic users who need to be exterminated for humanity's safety. Ignoring the distinction between normal Magi and the Council of Blood, Verona has her army kill countless innocent Magi, occupy and oppress several human settlements, and raze any town caught coexisting with Magi. When a soldier shows mercy to a Magi, Verona [[MakeAnExampleOfThem makes an example of his disobedience]] by forcing his daughter to watch his execution. [[StrawHypocrite Despite claiming]] to protect humanity from evil magic, Verona secretly sacrifices the strongest Magi to implant their powers into her own forces, revealing that her [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist real goal]] is to monopolize magic for military power.
