** The is brutal even by BonusBoss standards. Three of its four attacks can qualify as ThatOneAttack, but special mention goes to its projectile attack. As the boss is only vulnerable in the head, you will likely be close to it when it happens. The projectile the boss summons Roboteching techs with extreme prejudice, and it tends to use this attack four or five times in succession. It doesn't help that the tell for this attack is similar to that of its enemy summoning attack. Speaking of which, it summons the enemies that hit you with an undodgable lightning bolt when you use a charge shot or dash, which can interfere if it uses this right after summoning a teching projectile. A rare attack that the boss only uses when down to a third of its health is teleporting while summoning a barrage of (thankfully non-homing) projectiles, which the boss does without warning. Oh, and the entire boss is a DamageSpongeBoss. However, it is extremely satisfying to actually defeat the boss.

* ThatOneBoss: The bosses in this game are no slouches, but the Plague Hive and are particularly frustrating to deal with.
** The Plague Hive is only vulnerable at certain points, and when it does, it launches a series of hard-to-dodge splitting projectiles. Additionally, after only a quarter of its health is knocked off, it TurnsRed, detaches from the ceiling, and starts jumping around and summoning worms... and it still uses its splitting projectile attack.

** There is a random chance of a huge creature such as a slimy green ghost suddenly appear floating across the screen. They're all harmless, but will certainly startle the player.
