As I mentioned in an edit reason for VideoGame.Dungeon Master, please write examples in the present tense.

* DemonicSpiders: Materializers. Spent most of the time ethereal (and difficult to see), only phasing into the physical world for long enough to cast attack spells at you.
* GoddamnedBats
** Ghosts weren't all that dangerous, but they could pursue you through closed doors and were immune to all weapons except Vorpal Blades and all spells except "weaken nonmaterial monster" spell.
** Gigglers stole people's off-hand items (shields, ammunition for ranged weapons) and ran away. The level with which they were chiefly associated had fireball launchers (which could be neutralized), pits (many of which were toggled by pressure plates), and ''other monsters'', so racing around the place trying to chase them down wasn't entirely pleasant. A single second-rank fireball would kill one, though - but only ''if'' you had it racked up ready to cast.

Not YMMV.

* HellIsThatNoise: One of the innovations of ''Dungeon Master'' was its use of sound to let you know beasts were ''somewhere'' in the area. Stereo speakers allowed you to determine the general direction.
