* BrokenBase: The movie's reception. While a many of people, especially in Japan, are in the camp TheyChangedItNowItSucks, from not using Creator/AkiraToriyama's iconic character designs to [[spoiler: the extremely random, out of nowhere meta twist near the end that made the entire movie out to be a VR game that some random guy (presumably a {{salaryman}} based on his outfit) was playing]], which was compared to the very similar and equally infamous twist of ''VideoGame/StarOceanTillTheEndOfTime'', there are a few who embraced it for its differences, even if not exactly loving everything and point out there were subtle nods to [[spoiler: the Isekai twist. From the random in-game footage, the Hero not using a Staff, a mainstay of the ''V'' Hero's aesthetic as the only staff user hero in canon materials; to the hero having a name different from any other official materials; to the art/design changes to the title which omits any mention of the brides or even that it's an adaptation of ''V'' and suggest that it's "''Your'' [The Player's] Story". Also, it's a reflection on the Fan's relationship with the franchise.]]

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: The entire Bianca/Hero/Nera love triangle takes this on when you learn that [[spoiler: it's all a game simulation]]. Was the Hero's feelings towards Bianca true or was he being [[spoiler: railroaded by the game. Made worse when we see the Hero entering the game and wanting to go the Nera route but the game/Nera pushes him to Bianca.]] In a similar vein, does Nera truly believe that the Hero [[spoiler: would be happier with Bianca or are her feelings being overridden by the game?]]

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: The entire Bianca/Hero/Flora love triangle takes this on when you learn that [[spoiler: it's all a game simulation]]. Was the Hero's feelings towards Bianca true or was he being [[spoiler: railroaded by the game. Made worse when we see the Hero entering the game and wanting to go the Flora route but the game/Flora pushes him to Bianca.]] In a similar vein, does Flora truly believe that the Hero [[spoiler: would be happier with Bianca or are her feelings being overridden by the game?]]

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: A fairly faithful adaptation of one of the most beloved Dragon Quest games [[spoiler: that turns out to be a virtual reality game. Needless to say a majority of fans really wished the movie just played out the game's events without any sharp twists. The virtual reality game being a separate world that did need saving rather than just a video game helps alleviate this, but many fans still feel disappointed.]]

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: A fairly faithful adaptation of one of the most beloved Dragon Quest games [[spoiler: that turns out to be a virtual reality game. Needless to say a majority of fans really wished the movie just played out the game's events without any sharp twists.]]

* CompleteMonster: [[SinisterMinister Bishop Ladja]] seeks to obtain a Zenithian [[EvilSorcerer spell]] that he can use to unleash Grandmaster Nimzo and cover the world in eternal darkness, all for his {{sadist}}ic pleasure. Already having imprisoned the Zenithian Mada, Ladja kills her husband Pankraz right in front of their young son Luca, whom he spares [[LovesTheSoundOfScreaming just to hear his screams]], and takes Luca and Prince Harry as his slaves. When Ladja faces Luca again ten years later, he turns him -- as well as Bianca when she defies him -- into [[TakenForGranite stone]], [[AndIMustScream fully alive and aware but helpless]] as he takes over the entire world. Confronting Luca yet again eight years later, Ladja releases Mada just to kill her out of spite and, even while dying, rips the spell out of Mada's corpse in a last-ditch attempt at releasing Nimzo.
